Super Smash Bros. Project M Ceases Development

Project M was, and still is, the best designed Smash game of all time. For me, the best game overall.

http://projectmgame.com/en/

It is still around, it will still continue existing as long as people play it, but as of now the development team has disbanded.

Let me take advantage of the exposure this news will bring to tell you that if you're a Smash fan, or a fan of good fighting games, to do yourself a favor and try the game out. The game has a character for everyone, and all characters from Brawl and 2 from Melee have been given overhauls, with more useful and cooler moves in their kit, better frame data for faster and smoother gameplay. The game removes the overall floatiness from Brawl and bad mechanics such as tripping, but if you're not a fan of falling like a rock, you can still play a floaty character like Mewtwo or Samus. And of course, it adds the all important wavecheating and other mechanics from Melee that make the gameplay deep but accessible. It just takes a little practice.

If you have a Wii, the process is easy, just follow the install instructions in this post. The easiest way is through homebrew, and in exchange for a little fiddling with your Wii you get incredibly fun times with friends.

If you don't, but have a good enough computer, you can try out the Netplay method. Any Wii U adapter works on a PC so you can have native Gamecube controller support, play people online, and have just a better looking Project M.

Project M is what made me a true Smasher, not someone who claimed he liked Brawl but hadn't booted up the game in years, like old me. I'm gonna be sticking with the game, and I hope some of you will join me.
It's a really fun time.

UPDATE:
Here is the new version of the dev build with the costumes and Lyn, Knuckles, and Isaac.

Wii Version Note: Download the ZIP included and overwrite the official 3.6 version of Project M on your SD card as instructed.

Dolphin Netplay Version Note: Instructions included in .txt.

As if it wasn't obvious enough from your username ;P

So...does that mean it's not going to be updated anymore, and whoever the better characters are, that's how it's going to be (unless someone pulls an aMSa and beats people with a low tier)?

I don't even play PM but this shocked me. I thought the project was still going strong.

I don't either, but I've been on r/smashbros and have seen a few things.
So what's the latest (or now the final) version it's on? I could do some better research about the game if I knew the version it's on now.

You could care less. So that means you do care? I'm confused.

3.6 is the final official build, but there's talks about community voted updates going on. The characters are not completely balanced right now, but they are much better balanced than any other Smash game by far.

Anyway, big news. Throughout the course of the day, the dev builds for the game were leaked by a member of the dev team. This includes stuff that they were working on such as new costumes and balance changes, and 3 new characters, Lyn, Knuckles, and Isaac.

Lyn is about 70% completed, with most animations finished but some completely missing, such as a functional side-B or down-B, and balancing and polish not done.

Knuckles is almost completed, only missing minor tweaking but having all his animations and moves working, but missing victory screen animations.

Isaac is only abouy 40% completed, and is pretty much a model they put on top of Toon Link with new moves and animations. Not all of them work, and he pretty much has no recovery since his Up-B lags so much before starting up.

Still pretty fun to play, and it soothes our wounds a bit to have some hype new content for the game. If you wanna check it out, I updated the OP.

I care slightly, I'm just saying I'm not torn up about it. I never installed it on my own Wii, the only times I played it was when I hung out with friends and they had it, which last time that happened was several months ago. It was kinda neat, but I don't play the game competitively so I would always get rekt by those who do.

In a nutshell, my thoughts on it are: "Huh, that's a bit disappointing, but oh well."

You're welcome btw brando

I would say Smash 4 is balanced, but then I realized that some characters are kinda "meh" in that game too.

Well, I'm going to guess that the meta for PM is going to reach a peak at some point since it's not being developed anymore.
