So this thread is discussing about which Level Editor is better than the other. Silly Idea, but let's begin! I'll give out the pros and cons of each version:

Super Mario 63:

Pros:
You have the ability to add water or lava.
You can glitch it to have some cool effects.
Your levels can be so long.
There is a help button that can accessed all the time.
You can save them in your browser depending which website you got the game from.
You can pick a lot of themes and mix them up.
Upload Online

Cons: You can't make sub areas. What I mean is that it can't change the background of levels unlike Super Mario Maker.
You have to collect Star Coins to get all the tilesets. (I find it unfair, because at least Super Mario Maker came with a patch that you can use the already unlock the items if you want to. Plus, you could wait.) Yes i know that there is a cheat, but not a lot of people will know that.
Not everything from Super Mario 63 was in this editor. (Toads, Bowser, Bosses, etc.)
No music or backgrounds in the editor. Only when testing.
No Undo Button. You can delete, but that is it.
Super Mario Maker:

Pros:
Music plays and you can see the background. Super Mario 63 has a blue background instead of the selected background and it gets kind of boring with no music. Though you could use YouTube.
You can change from any Mario Game theme.
Sub Areas that can change the background.
Keys
Sound Effects
Undo Button

Cons:

Your Sound Effect that was recorded will be censored when you upload your stage. (replaces your voice with the DS Bird thingy)
It isn't as advanced as Super Mario 63's or Mario Builder's.
You can't change the music other than add the bonus and battle themes.
They didn't add the Volcano and Snow Themes.
You only have 1 sub area.
The community's levels are good. Sometimes you see really awful levels that are bland.
You have a limit on uploading levels
You can't play as other characters in the SMB3, SMW, and NSMBU themes.
There are no Broozers/Chucks or Bro. Variations (Fire, Ice, Boomerang)
Nintendo will delete your stage if it breaks the rules. But they always won't mention why.

This is not to say that Super Mario Maker or Super Mario 63 is a ripoff of each other. I just wanted to know what you guys think. Which one is better? Discuss a improvement Super Mario Maker made or mention something Super Mario 63 does better than Super Mario Maker!

SM63 is generally better because Nintendo deletes every SMM level while we have a working portal system

but in general, these two designers are absolutely different, like SM63 is also inherently different to SMBX. SMM and SMBX (and LL as well) have a ton of features to offer, but they can also become very tedious. SM63, while having obvious functional shortcomings, allows you to shine with simplicity and is also advanced enough to make masterpieces which are way supreme to the main game.

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

Didn't Nintendo delete them because the levels were about glitches that were fixed or had inappropriate messages?

Nope, there's been problems where Nintendo just straight-up delete your level. No explanation, no reason.

Ask Triple J (CedarBranch), he's...quite experienced with this problem.

I wish I could vote for SMM, but I have so much more freedom with Super Mario 63. And Last Legacy.

Even my worst levels on SM63 were not deleted (As long as they were approved)even if they were widely unliked and many tricks on the SM63 designer revolve around glitches, but we don't delete those and some that use them are some of the best levels on the site. Super Mario Maker is getting updates and new costumes quickly as of late, and there are many more users on Wii U than here. However, the only real moderation is through the regular users that play levels and give them stars, and if they don't receive stars they are deleted permanently and you have to COMPLETELY remake the course to attempt to upload it again. Most of the levels are not too good either especially when playing the 100 Mario Challenge, and others are just auto or music levels. Also, being banned from Miiverse keeps you from posting any levels (Which is a terrible idea in my opinion, why would you link Miiverse and a game COMPLETELY? And with Miiverse moderation, I was banned for 2 weeks, and then after 4 days banned AGAIN. I'm still banned currently.) As long as you have a Runouw account you're fine and as long as you aren't pestering anybody or breaking rules a bunch, you don't often get banned here or especially perma'd. I've also had a level where I had used only 10 total items deleted and it only had 3 PLAYS. Usually newer levels are seen in the 100 Mario Challenge but only 3 PEOPLE were able to see my level. And as only 3 people could have a chance of seeing it, most probably little kids that can't understand why they have to use the buttons on their controller and they aren't playing an auto level. Basically I think SM63 is better as it has larger amounts of potential but it doesn't get many updates (The last one was years ago) but it has better moderation as well.

You clearly haven't used the transition + pipe/door correctly then. Literally the same effect.

Wrong. You can enter a cheat code which allows you instant access to everything the game offers, not to mention there is a standalone LD, with everything unlocked already.

Skins =/= characters. In SM63 Luigi actually does play differently. In SMM you have only 1 character = Mario. It's cool that you get skins and crap for playing the game, but calling them characters is too far, especially since they can only be used in 1 gamemode

SM63 even though is really crappy about loading times and other technically related stuff, offers me more freedom than just creating a standard Mario bros style level. If I want a time limit in my level, I can do it. If I want to make an adventure level, story level, whatever. I can do it. Whereas SMM confines you to the one formula Nintendo has been sticking to for how many years now? It's not as overwhelming as LL at times, but just the moving blocks, more item looks, themes which can be combined, red coins and lots of other things make SM63 infinitely more interesting for me.

Hey Konradix, that's too patronizing and you also occasionally miss the point. Just let him explore the SM63 engine.

He probably meant that you can't change backgrounds between transitions, which can be annoying sometimes. Also the standalone LD is currently blocked :>

Having the blue grid and not the course background in LDing mode is also good because if you have a dark background, you barely see the grid anymore. LL can tell you a thing about that.

Runouw won't update SM63 because he's focusing on LL. We gotta have understandings for that.

Konradix does make a lot of good points I think, but his point about SM63's FPS is a bit moot now because there is at least one (unofficial) version of the game which stabilizes the framerate. I know of one used for speedruns that can be found on http://www.speedrun.com/sm63

Also a con that was not mentioned is that SMM is on the WiiU and those cost money. SM63 does not.
