Mibbit sucks. We have absolutley no control about it as we can't find out IP adresses, and even if we ban someone he can just rejoin Mibbit and get a new hostmask. No IP change necessary. We could just make it so you will be forced to download an IRC client, but no Mibbit.

Meh. I've used it before. So it's not really alien to me. Mibbit is gone, there is nothing we can do about it.

But at least I can handle it without whining and complain like some people. Get over it for god's sakes.

Yeah, sorry guys, we can't control what Mibbit will and will not let us do. Even if you preferred that chat over this one (which might just be due to your familiarity with Mibbit), we have our reasons for switching chats. So please, just cope with things for now.

I agree wholeheartedly with Blab. Ultimately, this is still just a backup to what will be the official chat of the site, and as such does not need to be exactly what we want of it. From a moderator's point of view, the increased security of the new site can be nothing but a good thing, and that's why the decision was made as it was.

Now if you all would like the official chat to come all the sooner, why don't we address the one issue that Runouw has brought to us about it: He doesn't know what it should look like. Let's talk about that, and maybe we won't have to put up with the backup as main much longer...

I personally like the current color scheme of the site, and I like the look of alternating background colors for each line, and though I like the avatar icon that the new chat has, it does make the line height of each entry a bit tall, making the task of keeping up with a fast moving chat harder (because it requires more scrolling), so I do not think that avis in chat is a good thing. Also, smilies are important.

Also, I don't see why you're ranting. Only different thing is the layout. And you can't see who's gonna type up something.
I know smileys are crappier, but imo, all basic smileys suck no matter where.

This thing has PM, too.
You can disable the sound it makes by clicking the speaker.
You can click the "X people here now" to see who's online.
Also, it's easier to see who's talking if everyone's registered. Even if they don't have avatar.

Also, this thing even has more colors than Mibbit for talking. You can even change the freaking font, put Bold, Italics and Underline...Honestly I like it better than Mibbit.


Final thing I'm saying: If it doesn't work for you, update Java/Flash/Whatever. Most likely that's why it doesn't work.

No worries I like it now. Just because last time I tried signing up it wouldn't let me but it's fine now.

Also I hope you don't mean me in ranting.. What you quoted me on was the only thing I said about the new runouw chat - I think it's everyone else who's ranting.

Yeah, the rant was to everyone else.

Also, if I remember, when the chat was first down, you guys ranted about how Mibbit sucked. And even when they put the AJAX chat back up with a new style, you guys said you preferred Mibbit.

But we have to vary. Mibbit's just gotten out of hand now. Chatango's more secure; mods can actually see IPs.

(also, i'm kinda glad this thing doesn't have name change. it was confusing and even lame.)
