I read somewhere that they only considered a markup discussion on the bill, and that a markup is not where proponents of the bill want it to go.
Safe to say, SOPA is another Fayul Legislative Frankenstein.

Is SOPA still banishing piracy websites? My friend said mega upload was down because of SOPA.

No sir. SOPA and PIPA were "indefinitely" shelved, which means that Congress has decided to postpone the voting for them for an unsaid amount of time. Your friend is correct in that Megaupload was taken down, but that's unrelated to SOPA.

If anything, the fact that megauploads was taken down without SOPA just proves that we don't need it.

No-one online is really safe no matter what software you use, be it SMF, YaBB, vBulletin, Wordpress etc if SOPA as is passes, now like many people in the forum I am not in USA, I am in Scotland, and even I worry what it means for SOPA passing, so even if you are outwith USA, its important that you also stand against it, many of the sites tell y ou how you can contact congress even if you are not from the US.
