Does that mean I need to cut down on my sig? I don't think it's that big, it just has a bunch of sigbars.

I don't like this at all but okay, don't expect me to change my signature either.

Illicit, explicit material (ie “Not safe for work”) material is forbidden. Posters to be found with this material will be permanently banned.

A permanent ban sounds too cruel.
We ask that you type in English as this is an English speaking community.

I don't know; maybe there should be a translator which can work automatically by choice.
On Runouw we uphold a “3 strikes and you’re out” policy. Your first two offences will result in warnings, while the third will be a ban with the length varying depending on the situation. Subsequent warnings will be permanent.

I like it more when every warning expires in 90 days.
You are responsible for all actions happening on your account, even if you are not the one doing it. You should make sure your account is safe, and your password known only by yourself.

What if a hacker hacks your account spontaneously? What if that hacker changes the password of your account and takes it for his/her/its own?
  • Images should not exceed 200px in height, and the file size must be as small as possible. Only one animated GIF is allowed in your signature.
  • Up to 8 lines of text are allowed or, if you have included an image, 2 lines. If your image is smaller than the limit, you can gauge how large your signature should be.
  • Youtube videos are strictly prohibited.

Oh boy, more restrictions.
So we're removing these groups:
Story Mods
The original idea behind Story Mods was that they would moderate both the Stories forum and the Story Portal. Interest in stories was a fad and quickly died. We now get very few stories, and there really isn't any need for a separate group to be dealing with this stuff.

Wiki Mods
This group has sort of been neglected. We have Wiki Mods but it seems to be only Zunar who does anything, and that's not even regularly. You can still change the Wiki exactly the same, but the group will be gone.

Honorary Members
Now this is the big one. Honorary Members are our retired staff - or just about anyone who has ever had a position on the site but has since become a 'regular' user. We now have 13 Honorary Members, and so our forum frequently has a load of coloured names flying around the site without any real need to be there.

The colour gives them importance: something they shouldn't have. They are no longer staff so the distinction shouldn't be there. They can be honoured, but we don't have to place them on a pedestal. While this isn't finalised, I would like to give former staff members their own special medal, thanking them for their work at the site however long or brief.

Good.
Level Moderators
Hey? What are these doing here?
There will be some staff change ups happening in the near future.

I miss the times when their job is to delete rule-breaking levels in the Old Portal. Their job in the New Portal sounds more complicated.
User Reps
If you read that last part in the rules (probably not), then you'll know that User Reps will now play a larger role: they will be a helper for new users. Their job is to basically teach newer users, and answer their questions through PM.

Probably good.

In my opinion, more restrictions don't make this site a better place.

Indeed.

This site is better off being more laid back, thank you very much. :l

The last time I heard that, I nearly lost my moderator position two weeks later. : /

Maybe not permanently after the first time. Just sounds a bit harsh.

While I'm busy with studying for my final exams, I'm gonna keep an eye on those things going on here.

Obviously, you won't be perma'd if you just forget to add a trigger warning for a picture like the guy from Boston who had his leg severed. This rather refers to stuff like porn, where we will definely perma you if post that. (It's funny because that was also in the old rules, and no one ♥♥♥♥♥ there)

Killswitch wrote:I don't know; maybe there should be a translator which can work automatically by choice.
Remember luigi master? I'm not doing that ♥♥♥♥ again. If people want to talk English without knowing any, they can go to Google Translate themselves, no need to add it here.

Killswitch wrote:What if a hacker hacks your account spontaneously? What if that hacker changes the password of your account and takes it for his/her/its own?
Then it's your fault because your password is too weak/you had a security flaw on your PC/you gave your password out. (Again, this is in the old rules, too. No one cared about it there. What's going on?)

Killswitch wrote:Oh boy, more restrictions.
Sure, let's have signatures which are longer than the post itself.
The signature is not a place where you should just jam all the stuff you can think of. It's a place where you can add a personal little touch, maybe link to your profiles on other sites. Because, you know, that's why it's called "signature", not "HEY GUYS THIS IS MY WEBSITE"
Also the current restriction is 250px, which approximately equals the restrictions set by the new rules (200px + 13px * 2 (2 lines) + 5.2px * 2 (line spacing) = 236.4). Why is everyone crying now about rules which have been here, before similar or even exactly the same?

Killswitch wrote:I miss the times when their job is to delete rule-breaking levels in the Old Portal. Their job in the New Portal sounds more complicated.
Huh? They basically do the same. Approve or disapprove levels, and moderate the level forums. (Unless I'm forgetting something obvious)

Alright, tell me which rules are completly unneccessary. The NSFW rule? Want us to remove that, so we can have a BDSM subforum? Or how about we allow any language, so no one understands anyone. Or we remove the aforementioned signature height limit and scroll through thirty pages of "look at these funny pictures I found :))))" at the end of every post.
We want to keep the forum rather open, too, but without rules, everything would end up in a chaos. I hope you understand that.

I'd just like to state that most of theses rules have already been in effect.
1. No Inappropriate Material wrote:This means, no posting things that are illegal, massive swearing or bypassing our swear filter. Also, respect someone else's privacy; don't go posting their address, phone number, etc.

4. Don't be Dumb wrote:Try to use proper grammar, type in full sentences (including punctuation and Capitals.), and make sure the words are as close to the correct spelling as possible.

Our rule set just clears things up further and adds necessary details. You can still post gory images or videos as long as it is in context with the topic, but no porn. As for swearing, how we're posting as of late is actually fine. you dont need to post with perfect grammar, since this is the internet, but it should at least be understandable text. In fact, I think our grammar rule is a lot more lenient, since we've decided a long time ago that our grammar doesn't matter. I'll add in *astrics* at the end of each rule that is recommended to follow or has exceptions.

I'm fairly certain that we could remove some of the words in these rules that might be upsetting you guys, like "not tolerated at all", and "sole".

TheZunar123 wrote:Does that mean I need to cut down on my sig? I don't think it's that big, it just has a bunch of sigbars.

You should be fine. As for anyone else, a simple scaling down of your sigbars would be fine.

Anyway, the reason we posted these beforehand instead of immediately putting it into effect is so we could hear your opinions and make changes that we may have missed or overlooked. Right now, I can see that we made the rules look stricter, and that we need to type in the crossing lines. Are there any other rules that you guys have problems with, or is it just the swearing and sig limits for the most part?

I'd like to ask whether this actually means a change in our signatures, or are we all fine for the most part?

Also, would this come under NSFW?

I'm not saying that rules are completely unnecessary; I'm fine with the current rules. I just think that adding more restrictions won't make things better.

I disagree. Back when we added the Honorary Member position - yes, back when there were only 2 or 3 of them - the whole idea was to distinguish these guys from other users. That was the entire concept.

It doesn't bother me either way what you do, but with this particular change, it seems like we're stepping on our own toes here. Although back in the day, I suppose nobody could ever guess how many retirees we'd have. Anyways, I'll definitely miss my yellowness, but you all know I preferred green anyway. :ninja:

As for the other changes, I don't care. Go crazy.

Now give me my medal.
