I agree with Blab that if SM63 was trully a problem for Nintendo it could become extinct years ago. From what I understood from the wiki Super Mario 128 (SM63's predecessor) was denied by Nintendo, but if you do a search I'm sure you'll find sites still hosting it (after a google, 2nd result, even embed code included). I'm sure SM63 won't go extinct that easy and it's a matter of time until we find it on Newgrounds and other big sites again, nothing to worry about, in my opinion.

And about open-sourcing it, I find the idea pretty good, maybe I can learn some flash from it.

I know this may also not be a very good time. But no matter what does happen I do want to thank you for Super Mario 63. The game ultimately led to my wanting to make characters and comics. If I never would have found out about Super Mario 63, I never would've found out about these forums. These forums were the birthplace and the reason I continued D-PAD comics until I finally couldn't keep it going on. And because of the finishing of D-PAD comics, it helped me see how I can do web comics and do them well.

That's a little off topic, haha.

But none the less, it was important for me to say and thank you for making it in general.

(Long live this forum)

SM63 isn't dead yet, guys. As long as it exists on this site, we are fine. The only bad news in this whole story is: 1) no more new members or a lot less of them 2) SM63 may not stay forever on this site. So far, the situation is not tragic. Yet. It's just sad.

And they can never take Last Legacy away from us.

SM63 might be just a game for some of you. But it's not for me.

True, the game and the storyline itself is probably what Nintendo are really trying to shut down. But if they take away the level designer, they take away around 100 hours of my life that I spent making my levels, probably more. And I didn't make those levels thinking "oh this will be a fun game I don't mind losing one day", they actually represent different parts of my life. In the end they will be the ones who took that away from me, and I don't think I could ever have more disrespect for anyone.

For example, I didn't make Tearing Paper thinking it will just be a game to me and other people. I made it in the hope that my friends and myself can play it and that it can be related to real life issues; wanting to escape from the real world.

If this were to happen for real, I don't think it would happen straight away. Besides if Runouw gave us the source code, we can pretty much do anything we like with it. I'm just saying- everyone who still loves SM63 should get the .exe version straight away. It means we can still hold LDCs and if we all have one then nobody misses out. I was also thinking if I were to make a new level that couldn't be put on the site I could just record me playing it and put it up on YouTube so others can see it.

But we put so much work into SM63 and the level designer forums. I don't want that work to be put to waste, and honestly?
I don't like LL nearly as much as I like SM63. I think I would be in danger of having a relapse. Maybe I am overreacting- but like I said, my levels and the designer opened up such a creative side to my life that I'd never encountered before. Not only am I extremely sensitive to most kinds of change, I do not want to lose that part of my life. I know most of you probably don't understand what it feels like to be this attached to something like this. It's not an addiction, I just am attached to these wild escapes I can make for myself, okay. Kinda like lucid dreaming.

I know you don't want to change it Runouw, or don't really mind that it goes, but there are people who really care for this and in my eyes it is and always will be a masterpiece. If we have to change the graphics to keep it, surely there must be a way of doing so?
Sorry. This may be completely selfish once again, if so please just let me live with it. I get selfish when I'm mad, I think we all do. But I just want you to know not everybody likes/will like LL. I'm simply afraid of how the new member numbers will decrease.

Will Suyo mod the game? That would be awesome! :awe:

I'm not really sure of what to think about this...

But maybe we're overreacting here. The game's still there, and the C&D letter may never come. And we all have our memories of playing this, but that time isn't wasted if they took this down. We already have the exe, for one- we can continue having LDCs and whatnot...

The new members thing could be an issue, but Last Legacy might be able to keep attracting people to this site.

And MP3... calm down. Your work won't be put to waste, no matter what happens.

It's impossible for them to take down the level portal as they own nothing but the graphics, everything is purely fanmade, if SM63 is going to be taken down for it's similarity of levels to the Nintendo ones, okay, but the others are simply untouchable, in my opinion. I saw a few of you guys also made levels for Super Mario Flash's level editor, I checked their site, their facebook, but they don't seem to worry about loosing their precious levels so we may not either. I don't know why you guys are going "RIP SM63" already, maybe it won't even happen, maybe tomorrow somebody at Nintendo would wake up and say "STAHP, we are doing something wrong" and everything would go back to normal. Everything will end positive if we are thinking positive and even if take flash game is going to be removed from the site, Nintendo can't simply tell us to delete X topics from the forums just because they're levels and they're not going to check everyone's computers to see if they "dare" to make futher levels. Just calm down people, nothing bad really happened yet.

llets not forget that Nintendo supposedly attacked SMBX. That was mmbers prank on Redigit that wnded in heartbreak for everyone.

The source might be a good idea. Keep the original safe and secure and open it to us, leave the portal open, and we'll show Nintendo we are not bunch of pushover geeks. A suit and tie wont scare me, I grew up around boots and overalls.

Brace yourselves though.

Edit: dont forget. if we have the source and flash we can just reexport the exe and distribute online. i know a few of you rebels are like that.
