You know what? Life still punches you in the face once in awhile. Instead of complaining about the fan game you're losing, why don't you find a way into the videogame industry where you can make all the levels you could ever want to your blood-filled heart's content? If making levels is such an integral part of your life, make a living out if it. Become an indie developer if you have to. Make levels for games people outside of this site and this game might actually see. If you care so much about your work here, where it's practically isolated, then why don't you take your talents, your genius, your abilities, and apply it somewhere less isolated? You guys are basically taking a level editor and programming games with it using SM63 as an engine. If you can do this, how much harder can making an actual game be? I know some of you have tried and whatnot, but you already know what good level design is. All you really need to do is either build your own engine, or use an existing one. ROM hacks take an existing game, use its sprites and game engine, but do their own thing with it. If you care about your skills as a level designer so much, and think so highly of your work, then this shouldn't stop you. You should just look for other ways to continue your work. Neither SM63, nor LL is user friendly. Quite frankly, there's only so much a level editor can do without becoming user unfriendly. The question is are you going to complain to high heaven because it isn't the same thing as SM63 and/or LL, or are you actually going to take the time to learn a different level editor, or heck, make your own game? If you could all work together, you guys could make a game that lasts hours upon hours. You have talent, but it could end up wasted if you restrict yourself to only SM63, LL, or both. SM63 and LL are just two level designer/editors out of dozens, hundreds, I have no idea. You may think I'm "totally ♥♥♥♥" on everything you've done, but honestly, have none of you ever tried making levels in something else? I've seen some of the finesse you guys have with your levels. If you can be that careful with this, you can do it with other devices. A cease and desist could happen, it could not. You can either move on now, or wait to see the outcome. If it does stay, then fine, keep going, I'm not going to stop you. If it does get a cease and desist, you can choose to cling to your nostalgia, or move on. You guys claim to be adults right? Part of that is realizing you have to move on once in awhile isn't it? If I'm wrong then please do let me know. I honestly see legitimate talent in you guys, but I also see that it would be wasted if you suddenly stopped because your favorite Level designer/editor got shut down. Say what you want about me MoD, but I made a point. Life does this, so what are you yourself going to do about this?

In all honesty, I KNOW SM63 is not in any real danger. We'll still have the level designer and the portal and all you guys will enjoy SM63 while LL stays crying in a corner. ;)

JSlayer I literally just wrote a post about respecting people's reactions to this kind of news...I intended for it to be read so nobody got angry at each other for being 'too upset' or something. Let's be honest- 'too upset' varies for most people. I didn't exactly cry at the news but it had my mood down for several hours enough for even my dad to see something wasn't right. IMO, I find that a very reasonable reaction to something like this.

Also in relation to LL, maybe this will be good for my motivation. It might mean I feel like trying something new, if I feel SM63 could be in further danger in the future. It's just rather saddening because I find it difficult to get used to new things, especially when they're design/art related. SM63 level designer is one of the few that I didn't find it difficult at all to get attached to.

This topic exploded in less than a day.

There's no actual problem for any SM63 level designer, runouw.com user, etc. The amount of new members will shrink a bit for a while. But tbh that happened right now anyways, so nobody will notice.

I'm not getting why everyone starts writing long posts of dissatisfaction if there's trully nothing to feel hurt about. Nintendo makes a mistake like every bigger company nowadays and it doesn't affect us.

The only affecting thing I can think of right now is Runouw needing to do some work.

Correct me if I'm wrong. And now let's calm down and don't care much about it as long as there aren't further actions of nintendo, which are very unlikely anyways.

Holy crap JSlayer needs to settle down a bit and admit that some people may have different reactions to this. You are not in my mind, goddamnit.

This topic took a turn for the worse.

Jslayer, I in no way like SM63, but I know that people such as MP3 like SM63 so much, not just because of the level designer, but the community. You can't just go onto a different level designer and expect the same thing as the people here.

I really hate how people really into the SM63 design scene get mocked by those who aren't. SM63's designer has led to some powerful things. It's given youngsters and teenagers the chance to create beyond almost any resource otherwise. We've had LDC winners as young as 11 years old. We've had some amazing work come out of it, and it's brought amazing things out of people. People have been able to express themselves through designing in ways they would be too secure to otherwise, and it's given others a bit of escapism through hard times. Sure, it's a funny little thing to draw out of a Mario Level Designer, and we've exploited every inch of that designer far beyond what it was meant for, but the idea of losing all of that work or the opportunity to make that work is understandably a little jarring.

And yes, there is LL. LL is wonderful, and I will never knock it. However, for those who are really engrained in SM63, the LL designer is a totally different beast, and is not intuitive to those who have used SM63 from their first portal level to their last masterpiece. I still haven't adjusted, not by fault of Runouw, but because of my own shortcomings. Besides, I enjoy the challenge that comes out of designing literally brick by brick and tile by tile. There's something magnificent about pulling off a 5 Level Series one tile at a time, at least in retrospect.

LL isn't that difficult... Everything trigger-related is pretty much logic stuff. Sorta like programming I guess, but it's easier to get into. Also, you don't need to know much about triggers to do stuff.

To be honest, I get unnecessarily affected by the weirdest things. I didn't say you couldn't be affect by this. Maybe you missed the point, but life kinda sucks and I was pointing that out. In case you missed it, I was actually trying to defend myself and maybe give a pep talk in that last post. I was trying to say that you guys have talent, so don't waste it. But apparently all I did was come across as an angry prick that's yelling at everybody because he can. Pardon me for existing.

Am I stopping you guys or something? SMW is ancient, yet people made ROM hacks for that game for who know how long. They might even still be going. I've been in positions where I just flat out don't like something with no logical explanation as to why, but also been in situations where I have no logical reason to like something, but I do. Of all people, I would think that I would understand that some people just do or don't like things.
