lavadoom desert
a medium sized world, toned way back for two reasons:too hard and too much lag, probobly one of my better levels, reading the comments of my other levels,i added blue coins,a reasonable amount of enemys, and adequate decoration(couldent find much for a lava-filled desert)

ServantOfLight's Review of koolkid's "lavadoom desert"

Alright, I guess I'll play this...
*plays it*
Okay...
graphics: show
It looks better than your other levels, I can say that for sure. But why the heck did you use that type of background? I mean, choose a desert or a volcano one, not a bunch of hills and then some water in the far background. Speaking of which, the whole level didn't look much like a volcano/desert. However, I did like the placement of enemies and blue coins. And the burnt signpost was a nice touch. Next time, I think you should add more yellow coins. I give it a 15/25.
Difficulty: show
The first part was a little tricky with the moving platform and the lock-on bullet bills, but other than that, I passes throughout this level in less than a minute. In fact, I could jump from the rotating logs all the way to the shine sprite. Also, this was a little too short. I give it a 13/25.
lag: show
No lag whatsoever for me. You did have a decent placement of enemies and coins instead of spamming them in any which way. I give it a 23/25 for no lag.
fun: show
Too short. Spend more time on making your levels! 12/25.

overall score: show
63/100 or a D or 3 stars

what was good: show
-Burnt Sign
-Nice placement of items
-No Cutoff
how you could improve: show
-Add more yellow coins
-Choose the appropriate background
-Spend more time on your levels

And SOL, how is 63/100 a D. That should be a C+.

In America, a 60-69 is a D and a 70-79 is a C.

Maybe 80-89 is B, 90-99 is A, Actually, The perfect one is S?

America schools are more harder than here in Canada.

But shouldn't 55-79 be a C?

^ Not in Canada. :troll:

EDIT: Wow, I meant to say America. And I actually am part French-Canadian.

Anyway, on with my review.

Fun: 2/5. Actually, this is a little improvement. It was a simple look for the silver stars challenge, some creativity was shown with the tile settings, and overall it was spread out evenly and you used up most of your work space.

But... seriously? The level size is the standard 30x50, which is the default. And the default is never a good size for a well-done level. And when you said you toned down the difficulty, but I still felt that level was rather easy. You seriously need to expand your levels, they are all dangerously short. And I'm not joking. Expand the length or at least the height by 80-160 tiles and maybe add a level transition to make things interesting.

Graphics: 3/5. Great tile work, it's pretty obvious that you have the tile settings down, although I would consider using volcanic blocks for the tiles near the lava. But some very key things were missing.

First of all, almost no decor. Again. One tree at the far left of the level is NOT going to make the cut, especially since the tree doesn't even fit the level theme. Also, the background doesn't fit either. I never saw a desert with grassy hills in the background, and I'm sure you haven't either. If you click on file, you can go to course info and change the settings there.

Other/Creativity:

Good:
+ On the other hand, I liked how you made the water and clouds fit with the level. That is some good bonus points. Although maybe you could've shown a pipe or something where the water was coming from, because water doesn't come out of a random block of floating sand, I know that for sure. :P (+1)
+ Liked the burnt up sign idea, although it could've been closer to the lava but not too close as the player would get burnt trying to read it. (+0.5)

Bad:
- The rotating platforms were going way too slow... (-0.5)
- Only 3 stars, which were all very obvious to find. (-1)
- Hardly any enemies. Those that I did find were very few in numbers. (-1)

Total: 1.5/5.

Overall, this level deserves an average score of...

2.2/5! ... Well, this is a better score than your previous ones. The main repetitive thing that is dragging you down is your level size, which can be expanded by going to file on the level designer, and going to course info. There you can mess around with the level size, music, and background. Also some other things like difficulty rate, and how fun the level really is.
