Part 1: Spectrum
Background: I originally had this idea of a Viva La Vida album- based level since the 15th LDC. In the 15th I got a better idea which misfired, in the 16th SMIC did it so I decided to go with something else (THANK GOD), in the 17th I lost all progress on a level for it, and in the 18th I came up with Dark. The 19th, I didn't go for it because I started the duel against Volcove before that.
Anyway, this level is a semi-sequel to one of my greatest writing works, Viva La Vida. You may read it but most certainly do not have to; it's a 10,000 word story. The summary I'll IS below.
The story focuses around two soldiers who meet each other after the war ends and the troops are sent home to a city named Violet Hill in the land of Desin. They're both affected by their service- Kati is an introverted, no nonsense young woman who usually avoids social contact, and James is a more hopeful yet practical man who was affected by the death of a fellow soldier, Isadora, who gave her life saving his. After they know each other for awhile, their relationship takes a sudden turn after they become passionately, romantically involved with each other. Not even a month afterward, James proposes to her on Christmas Morning at the top of Violet Hill, the city's namesake. As a gift, he introduces to her his bird (in the story, a crow), Isadora, whom he deems his spirit guide. Isadora has an incredible ability to track down voices she is trained to, no matter how far away that voice is. James teaches Kati how to use that ability and promises to use Isadora as a link between them should it be needed.
Unfortunately, not even a week afterward, the war starts up again and both of them are forced to enlist again, separating them. They promise to reunite as soon as they can, if they can, but war proves too much for Kati, she plans an escape and executes it. She is fearful that James will not have done the same and she will be alone, but instantly Isadora delivers a letter from James declaring that he has escaped and that he believes she has as well. With that hope ignited, the story ends.
This story follows James (using Mario as the form) as he escapes his post and the armies to find her again. It's as simple as that. Well, if that is simple.
I'd say the difficulty's at about a 6/10 for this. The obstacles aren't very tricky except for the beginning, but there's only one source of health towards the end besides enemy coins. Very straightforward.
