How many layers of flame towers are you using, Amp? It takes 4 of them to completely obscure ANY background behind them.
I noticed that you can see the Desert and Hills background while having 3 flame tower layers.

Well, the reason I am posting is because--I found the source of the lag. I am using too many layers, but I need them to completely obscure any background.
And... I don't like this lag anymore... so...

for the first time, here...

I need help.

I want to see if someone could reduce this lag without changing any portions of the Citadel's structure. But, I am not asking this in the form of someone physically working on the level. I wish to have someone look at it and tell me what would reduce the lag the most, and still be able to keep the 4 layers of flame towers (to obscure any background.).

I had executed all methods/tricks I could find on the forums, but this level's lag won't f*cking go away in the desired way (which is by keeping the 4 layers.).

I know this changes the structure a bit. But I have three suggestions here.

1. Make only the needed path visible and just erase the other stuff in the beginning. So you could also keep the tension how the citadel would look completed. Bad suggestion, I know. But it gets better with the next ones.

2. Let the player start outside the citadel. This avoids searching for the door itself and gets rid of your problem. I saw many games skipping such things after the third or whatever time.

3. Split the fun in more transitions. This will increase the loading time unfortunately.

All the other little fixing stuff and so on won't be useful here. You need to change the structure to get rid of it. I may be wrong. But I think like that.

That's all I can think off right now.

Since the background for my level is the secret course background, I only used one layer. So it caused little to no additional lag.

Also, the actual location I'm using it for is a furnace, so it should fit the scene better.

(oh yeah it also looks rather mysterious if it's slightly translucent)

After learning this made it into WITBLO12 so far, along with me stumbling upon a few levels, comparing/contrasting them with this, I've come to be able to cope with the lag in the Citadel.

I wish to keep the originality of my Overworld concept/usage, and I don't expect to change my mind from here on out.
