Tall Grass

After a day at Roshua Park, Mario heads back home. However, many things are getting in his way. The detours keep coming: traveling through the skies, underground, up waterfalls, and more. Somebody must like letting the grass grow under your feet.

Version 1.1: Added a Checkpoint for comfort. Removed the sign warning you of Tall Grass. The level's name isn't because of the Tall Grass gimmick, it's from the level's idea: the grass is growing under your feet, with so many detours that the grass is "very tall."
Version 1.11: Removed the unnecessary Jungle Tiles at the starting point. Wow... I can't believe I left that there. I hope nothing like that ever happens again.

I'm sorry, I would rate higher than a 3/5, but please add a checkpoint or two... the level is passable, but really, really frustrating. With all the close-calls and jumps you have to make, and with one slight margin of error resulting in being sent to the start...? Not to mention out-of-camera thwomps pushing you into mini goombas, and off the clouds you go...

Also be wary of tile/item cutoff. The Tall Grass gimmick I like, but I don't see enough... I do appreciate graphical detail and the theme of a park, though.

I added a checkpoint. I didn't realize the level would frustrate anybody; I thought it wasn't too long as to be frustrating.

Also, the name of the level doesn't come from the Tall Grass gimmicks, it's because I'm using an expression. So, I removed the sign to avoid further confusion.

And where do you see cut-off? I don't see any other than, potentially, the openings inside the clouds (which I did find a mistake in, though: I forgot to even out the two, adjacent openings at the end of the section.).

It was generally at the beginning with the heightened jungle tiles, and some grass planets at the bottom have cut-off on the bottom tiles.

...How on Earth did I forget to remove that?? I wouldn't call it "cut-off," but I had changed plans at a point, then decided to remove it. How did I forget?? Well, thanks for reminding me to get rid of it.

Are you talking about the open space in the corner below the starting point? That was intentional, to ensure that the lag is as minimal as possible.
The only way I could imagine it being exposed in gameplay is if you zoom out, hit those Spikes, and then quickly move to the left before the camera shifts back upward, but I doubt somebody'd go that far to see it, so I don't think it matters to the point of deductions.

No, I was mentioning near the end with the bottom grass tiles. But it's negligible, so oh well.

And yeah, the beginning tiles it was more that I could see that they were not connected to the grass tiles, which deemed kinda unnecessary at first glance. Oh well, glad I could help, I like the level a bit more now (although as a whole it still kinda rounds down to 3/5 for me due to frustration).

Excuseeeeee me! but my computer could not let me play the level because of the size......if you could only make the next levels smaller, so we don't have trouble

Tall Grass by Triple J

FUN: 7/10

GRAPHICS: 3.5/5

The graphics were pretty okay. I mean, all the parts that featured grass tiles were just plain, and not really wonderful. But the other graphical features make the level a lot nicer: the arches and bridges at the start, the sky section, the mesas and the final house were a nice touch that pleased my eyes when playing the level. They are not wonderful as well, but added a touch of colour that is always quite nice in a level. The decor was nice: the trees was not underused nor overused, but sometimes just a bit too plain to me (but that's fairly personal). I like the little touches like arrow signs and more importantly the tall grass. Though I was quite disappointed that such a nice concept was not used more in the level. In short, a slightly-above-average level on the graphical part.
OTHER: 4/5

OVERALL: 14.5/20 -> 3.625/5 (4/5)

A good level. Not a masterpiece, but a fairly enjoyable level. The panel of challenges was pretty good, and added a lot to it. Graphics were average except for some graphical innovations from you that I enjoyed. You have fairly good ideas in there, work on them!
