Eternity City: Sonata for A Minor
This was going to be my level for the 28th LDC, but I didn't complete it in time due to lack of motivation.

Now that I have managed to finish it though, I'm happy to post it up anywhere. It's only a small level but I feel that this may be one of my best graphical attempts to date, especially in an urban setting.

(NOTE: It is still in the same kind of style as the collab was meant to be originally, as there are three areas of this city: Downtown, Inner City & Outer Suburbs. I made this level by myself though.)

Gotta say that there are parts in this level where tiling was exceptionally good, especially the houses but others looked rather inanimate. For example, I dunno why there are no houses on the street before the wing cap ride; and there are too many background holes, this background is tricky to use and requires plenty of tiling, Space is far better IMO. Also, I'm not fine with the 1-up shrooms at the start being all disabled, which means that they stop rotating, but they should glow! There could be also a few more decorations, as there's enough room for more loading time. The lack of atmosphere also holds back the Fun factor a bit, and the big bully at the busy road is a pain to pass by if you're not prepared for it, but the course layout and the stroll through the city was good, I mostly like the wing cap part. And in Other, you'd get bonuses for no lag and for those block cars. In the LDC I would have rated this something like a 14.5 or 14.75, so I give 4.375 --> 4 stars (sorry :c). Nice that you've completed it.

I didn't want too much tiling, as it's a city, it's still outside. It only needs background tiles when it's inside the building.

The disabled 1-ups are to give a green shining lamp light instead of silver or gold. It's the downtown area that has these because it's supposed to be a bit rundown. Unfortunately they do show up in front of the block in the second transition, but I can't control, that's a glitch of the designer itself.

There could be also a few more decorations, as there's enough room for more loading time.

I didn't want to add too many at the beginning, as it is still a city and there aren't supposed to be plants in a downtown city or inner city area. However towards the end, when you reach the outer suburbs and the posh houses, I have added a lot more decoration.

The bully was a bit of a pain, yes. I would have moved it further up the transition to stop it from being too hard but the few times where I moved it around the difficulty had actually increased somehow. The best way to get past it is to get it to chase you rather than slowing down and letting it catch up. So that position was the best place for it. It was supposed to represent a motorway/road section so it's supposed to be quite fast moving.

And no problem about the rating, I'm glad I know. But I just think that due to the type of level I was making, and because the tiling was so detailed, I didn't want to add too much décor or it would distract away from it a bit, and also it just didn't fit in well when I added some originally.
