Also I know it'd get downvoted and I have my suspicions about who did it. But it doesn't bother me.

Alright time to rate this for real now

I guess I owe you an actual review

Sky Goddess Shrine by Karyete

OVERALL SCORE: 16/20 --> ImageImageImageImageImage

Rating details:

--- Gameplay: 8/10
That was a short sweet level! Albeit not so original, challenges were varied and not too repetitive, which is pretty much what I like to see in a level. The only problem I see with the level is (I never thought I would say that) that it might be too easy, especially with the added Hover F.L.U.D.D. you give straight at the beginning. Of course, and I think that's why it's not in plain view, you could technically skip it, but still. However, I must admit that all the secrets were a nice touch, and the abundance of coins and 1-up added some replay value for the completionists like me.

--- Scenery: 4/5
Graphics were decent. Sure, the tileset you used was really good-looking, but I can help to think it's slightly too simple when comparing it to other actual hit levels, mostly Yurimaster's levels which are truly amazing. But hey, it still is pretty strong.

--- Miscellaneous: 4/5
[+0.5] The music fits really perfectly.
[+0.5] Some secrets were very well made, like the 1-up and the 4 blue coins on that Switch-activated bridge.
[-0] Minor complaint, but the very last secret (below the final platform) is slightly unfair. Even when entirely zoomed out, there was no way to know that this secret was even here.
[-0] Minor complaint #2, but I'm unsure as to why this level is even called Sky Goddess Shrine, when there is no Goddess nor Shrine in the level. Really minor, but yeah, title is slightly misleading :P

--- Overall: 16/20
It's still a bit far from perfect, but it's certainly a very good level. Secrets were all very nice. Finally someone who likes coins and 1-ups as much as me!

Damn, I enjoy a good review.

Glad you liked it! I realised it was easy, sorry about that. The Hover FLUDD was basically necessary, so if anyone misses it they should be encouraged to explore (which is easy to do). Replay value is something I strive for in most of my levels nowadays, so I'm glad that worked.
And I know how much you like your 1-Ups :>

Star king wrote:Graphics were decent. Sure, the tileset you used was really good-looking, but I can help to think it's slightly too simple when comparing it to other actual hit levels, mostly Yurimaster's levels which are truly amazing. But hey, it still is pretty strong.

First off, I'm surprised both you and MoD seem to think this is good enough to be a "hit level" of mine, so thanks for that :3. One thing I suck at when LDing is that I am horrible with graphics, so even getting a "good tileset" is fantastic for me. 4/5 is a milestone for me too.

Glad you liked the music :3 Also, completionists are people too :p
While I totally understand (and pretty much agree with) your point, the more inquisitive people out there might think "well, why would I be stuck on one platform with just a Shine Sprite?" and I wanted to shoehorn one last little secret in there. Well done for finding it by the way, and cheers for not taking points off <3
It's called the Sky Goddess Shrine because it's a wrecked, abandoned (and frigging huge) shrine dedicated to some old sky goddess :p It also sounds cool - which is 80% of the reason it's called that.

So yeah, I really appreciate the review and I wholeheartedly agree with it - I'd agree too that 4 stars is basically what this level is.

For me the borderline between 4 stars and 5 stars is at 15/20. Different people, different rating standards.

Thank you, FF.

Nan's sig! From the previous Secret Santa event!: show
Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

So you're saying that you'd rate 5 stars?

Also, I believe his rating goes as follows:

1 star = 4
2 stars = 8
3 stars = 12
4 stars = 16
5 stars = 20

Or something similar. idk :p

Actually mine goes

0 -> 4: 1 star
4+ -> 8: 2 stars
8+ -> 12: 3 stars
12+ -> 16: 4 stars
16+ -> 20: 5 stars

So yeah, you are right before the 5 stars, plus I might have been a bit nicer than expected and you got your share of 5 stars already, so yeah :P

But hey, 4 stars is pretty damn good ^_^
