This was absolute garbage. No coins to collect, No scenery, Spamming the same enemies.
The level design isn't that great to begin with. I didn't even bother collecting all five shine sprites.
It's also full of lag. Once again, it was terrible.This level just devastates itself. I give it a 1/5.
I'm sorry, but it IS that horrible. However, if you improve your levels with the things I listen below,
then you should be good.

-Add Scenery (This makes the level look much more fascinating)
-Add more various enemies (Try adding multiple enemies, not too much though. Other wise it becomes laggy)
-Add coins & collectibles (Collectibles are optional)
-Plot, Story (Optional. If you are going to add a story, make sure it's a good one)
-Graphics (Try mixing tiles, it works trust me)
-New Ideas and concepts (Try experimenting with the level designer, see what new things you can come up with. Be innovative)

I didn't feel like adding a lot of coins or scenery to be honest. I felt like the level could be fine without it. I honestly don't like spending time on pointless scenery which doesn't do anything but make things look nicer. I don't care about how nice my level looks, I just care if it's possible and at least somewhat fun to play.

That's the point. What makes the main game levels so fun and why do people like SM63? Because there is a good amount of plants, well-formed landscapes, not too many enemies, and coins. In this level the tiling is very boring and doesn't show much effort, and the thing is just very tedious to play with so many boos. Honestly, not interesting and not fun. And if you want your levels to be fun: Good graphics automatically boost the fun. Always did, always do and always will do. Great levels are both gameplay blasts and visual artifacts. Both is mutually dependent.

Instead of rushing, try to spend more efforts with graphics, this will be more pleasant also for you.

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

The scenery in a level never made me think more of it. I like levels that think very gameplay-wise, extra small details are nice, but they never did anything for me really.

The thing is, it's not just you playing your level. Lots of others are and they don't share the same views. You need to try and make your levels as impressive as you can.

If he doesn't want to add decoration, then just leave him. He may lose points on the LDC for not having great graphics, he may not get any level with great and innovating gameplay ever on WITBLO simply because it has no tree spam, he may even not be classified as a good designer because his tile combinations feel boring and not full at all, even if he spent hours on finding a new concept and making it work.

But as long as he is free to do what he wants and he is having fun with it, it's all OK.

He may lose points on the LDC for not having great graphics, he may not get any level with great and innovating gameplay ever on WITBLO simply because it has no tree spam, he may even not be classified as a good designer because his tile combinations feel boring and not full at all, even if he spent hours on finding a new concept and making it work.

But as long as he is free to do what he wants and he is having fun with it, it's all OK.


Umm, thanks? I still feel a little insulted. But I did make a new level that does have a little bit of scenery. If you guys want to try that out then you can.
