Fire Temple
After failing to defeat Bowser, Mario must travel to 5 sacred locations to get the power to actually succeed in what he tried to do in the first place.

The Fire Temple is one of those locations.


Still can't find good music, I'll have some for future levels though.

Not sure if you paid attention to this or not, but: On the way back to the shine you must not touch the stars in the lava, but I dunno if the ceiling is wide enough to perform that. I like this idea of precise lava-jumping in general, though. Also thanks for tons of coins, but there is one problem: NO DECOR. Even when you do quick levels, décor is quite a must to be there, and you could do many things here with twisted trees or rocks. (for the record this is also not a temple)

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

I did in fact know that you have to avoid the stars, I tested it and it is possible.

I'll try to edit this level to put in more scenery. I was up late just trying to get this finished, so it was kind of rushed.

And I am aware that it does not look like much of a temple, but I do have better ideas for more temple looking levels that I'm making that go along with this series. Such levels are the Frozen Ruins and the Water Sanctuary.

I also had some trouble testing this level because my computer made the hitboxes of the flame towers unusually larger and I would get hit by them when I was nowhere even close to them. It might just be my computer, since I'm on my "bad" computer. Has anyone else experienced this?

I like the idea of this level, and I'm glad you are going back to edit it.
My computer also has that problem with your level - maybe there's not enough room around the flames?

I don't like how many coins there are in this level - or at least the first bit. It's a lot of coins.
Since coins heal you, and you put a LOT of them, the first part is absurdly easy if you know what you're doing*.
One blue coin (of which there are many here) heals 3 HP, while the flames do only 2 HP per hit. You should reduce the number of coins.

* IF, because there's a point where you must dive to make it across. If you attempt to walk, you get trapped and die.
Obviously it would be unfair if that happened. I recommend you put a sign warning players, or retile that area.

With the star bit, I began at full health and ended up with only 2 HP - the ceiling is too low for players to pass without that happening to them.
This is a major difficulty spike, considering all those coins at the beginning. You should raise the ceiling or make the stars Invincibility Stars, which refill Mario's HP.

The second switch lasts half a second, and Mario cannot possibly get back the way he came after pressing it.
Players would attempt it anyway because you did not indicate Mario was meant to go through the left of the screen.
You should put a sign to indicate this; you should also remove the Sling Star in that portion, because that's just a red herring.

I went the wrong way by accident after I got the long Invincibility Star - it may be my fault, but a sign would have helped.

Oh, and the most important thing: You cannot return to the Shine Sprite once you have reached the lava.
Since you must do so to complete the level, this grave error makes the level unwinnable. You must remedy it.

Overall, I give the level 2/5. It looks like you did it quickly, so some typical editing should help this level.
Just add some signs, retile that one spot, add a bit of decoration, and it'll be good in no time.
