Re: (SPOILERS) Omega Flowey Fight

Postby DualFreezor07 » June 16th, 2016, 7:42 am

Seeing that there is no comment or rating here, I'll give a rating and my opinion on this level:

Pro: I feel this boss fight is rather well made in that there is a good flurry of attacks flowey throw at you and the attacks cover the fight arena pretty well with no obvious blind spots and that every time you get killed you don't really feel the kill being "cheap". The timer for you to survive is quite painfully long, but does well in conveying that sense of helplessness and little faith in winning that you feel in the actual fight in Undertale. Though I didn't manage to finish the fight without cheating as I just can't seem to dodge the green bullets without taking damage. Also the recreation of Omega flowey using tiles/items look neat, though the red coins for decoration are hidden behind the clouds when actually playing the level so you can't see them. Maybe add them after you've added the clouds.

Con: Now this level feels too short, even for a boss fight, not in terms of actual playtime but the content of the level. Although I'm guessing you didn't plan to make a very long battle anyway, the fight basically just involve finding a reliable pattern to dodge the attacks and keep repeating it until the timer runs out. Furthermore, there isn't any dialogue, no story line, nothing new or interesting that's been added to the material you're working with. Which is perhaps a lost potential there.

Suggestions: I do suggest introducing more phases and variety to the battle, as the battle in the actual game have there properties. Maybe let player progress further into the level when the timer runs out, which leads player to a different area where flowey uses a different set of attacks. Or vary up the attack patterns with some one-off attacks that aren't used for the rest of the battle or attacks that don't come until later in the fight, so the player can be thrown off their pattern of dodging.

I give this level 3 out of 5, there's nothing extraordinary about the level, but what the level does have to offer is pretty nice.

I have no idea why nobody else have reviewed this level though :P

I honestly feel like my levels are massively underrated. I have seen 3 star levels that are MUCH worse than this.
Oh well. Nothing i can do about it, i guess.
EDIT: Sorry, i got a bit salty there...

Well, it's my personal opinion anyways, so it highly subjective, it just that I feel you should at least receive some feedback and constructive criticism for the level rather than nothing. And after all, I'm a new guy here so you don't have to listen to me, believe in yourself.

Now my reason for giving you a 3 out of 5 is that I've seen level way better than this, not 3 star levels but just better levels. I personally feel that comparing to other levels that span over hundreds of tile, filled with detail decorations, storyline and interesting mechanics, this level shouldn't theoretically be up there on 5 out of 5.
One example of good level: (viewtopic.php?f=80&t=50116)
And comparing to levels that are horrible levels that are broken and nonsensical on many levels, this level is definitely well made.
One example of a bad level: (viewtopic.php?f=80&t=49869)

This level is definitely well made, a 4 out of 5 wouldn't be much of an overrate, the short length is my main reason for not giving it a higher rating, as well as a lot of room for improvement. Don't get discouraged by my review, I'm just one guy giving my arrogant opinion, and you are more than likely to improve further in the future.

Eh. This level is boring to be honest. Although the Omega Flowey looks well made, the challenge it has to offer isn't fun; very unfair, actually. It is possible to just stand in a certain point in the level while spin dashing and avoid basically every obstacle without a lot of effort. Also, the obstacles themselves don't look very well planned: Just some flamethrowers there, thwomps here, and a cluster of Bullet Bills.

In short, this doesn't attract my interest. 2 stars.

Uh, to rate you need to click the stars that are on the top right corner of the top post, close to the Quote button. Here they are:

I don't really know what transition glitch do you mean exactly (lol yes, there's more than one of them). If anything, try scrolling down this topic and see if you can find the thing you want.
