Am I the only one that spent hours trying to figure out how to beat the first boss of this level? And it's not because of the ludicrous health, it's because I couldn't figure out how to damage it. I also didn't realize until after that that the trap thing at the beginning had a hit box enemy. I'm not saying these are immediately bad design choices, but apparently I'm slow or something. With the first boss I figured that orb had some significance, and I tried everything but attacking it. But with the first thing in the level, I just thought you had to pull off a slide with very obnoxious timing. I had to look really hard to see the enemy hit box after I found out it existed. Anyways, the rest of this I'm writing as I'm playing the level, so keep that in mind. When you get into the Inner Heliosphere those colors, while pretty, are a little... I dunno, glaring. I'm not sure what the right word is. Of all the things that can possibly go wrong, if the orb falls off the screen you can't beat that part of the level. I mean, that's not where you're supposed to take it, but if it ends up there anyways, you have to die. I dunno, I've made that mistake before too and it is pretty hard to work around it. The second/last boss has a mess load of HP I have to say. It was at this point that I actually started to mind the huge amount of HP. It was very interesting and creative though. I am probably one of the hardest people to please when it comes to levels but I'd easily give this level a 3 or 4. Now that I'm done, some other things worth mentioning. There are some points that are fine and maybe even fun but some sections aren't fun in the slightest. Making an orb roll uphill is in and of itself a challenge. It's not a hard challenge per se, but it is mildly irritating. Throw in ice and a ceiling, and it almost becomes unreasonable. Th general look of this level is, alien, as in outer space alien. May just be how I look at it though. The constant blue and lack of contrast that hte enemies have makes them a pain to find. While the fact they give off light is helpful, if you're right next to them it does nothing. If that's the point, then bravo, otherwise, that's a bit of a meh. I'd say this level is somewhere between 3 and 4.
Now, for the shorthand version of my long wind.
There exists a thin line between challenging gameplay and frustrating gameplay. I personally think it cross that line more than once in both directions. The puzzles are decent. The bosses are fun at first, but may drag out a bit too long for the first, and slightly too long for the second. Graphically it's great. While there are a few spots that I didn't like, that may just be my tastes. Though, unless you're trying to make it so that you have to pay attention to the light that enemies cast, they are a bit too hidden as they don't contrast much if at all. Since I have to rate either 3 or 4 I'll give you a solid 4 because I'm feeling generous.
I hang out with Jesus.
Even though I prefer to go by Xero, nobody calls me that it seems.
