Alright even though I helped make this, I don't think I should have. While it's nice that people can make this kind of stuff in LL, I want to see actual levels in the portal, not test levels or levels that are tooo easy. All of the super mario bros levels recreated as LL levels are no fun, they're all going to be too easy, boring, and little decor. I'm going to rate a LL level as if it's an LL level.


And that's why I give it a 2.5/5 (3/5) (for the triggers mainly)

I think you're missing the point of this level. Its purpose wasn't to create a 1-hour epic with dazzling visuals and amazing gameplay. It's goal was to recreate the fourth level of the original Super Mario Bros. game as accurately as possible in Last Legacy (with some extra shadow effects). And that, it did. It wasn't meant to be original.

These remakes are their own genre. You wouldn't rate a puzzle level by how good of a platformer it is, or vice versa. Why would you rate a test/concept level or remake level in that way?

Also, it's not as if, by making this level, I'm preventing anyone from posting levels that meet your specific requirements for being an "actual" level. People are still posting platformers and adventure levels all the time, and they're not stopping anytime soon.


It also seems that, while there is no shortage of platform/adventure levels, the concept/test/remake levels are almost universally well received.

A few examples:

• The old SMB 1-1 remake - (highest rated level of all time)
• The new SMB 1-1 remake - (received praise from Runouw himself. Also, you posted "omg", which you later edited to "nice". Unless I'm mistaken, that means you enjoyed it.)
• Functional Calculator - (only complaints were about not understanding the triggers, not the level itself. Also, it was the 3rd highest rated level of all time until someone downrated it.)
• -KT's 2.5D level - (5th highest rated level of all time)
• Shop level - (This concept level was posted by you)

I'm surprised that you've chosen those five examples. I personally think those five levels got rated by the concept/idea rather than the actual level itself. Except the different use of graphical work, the 2.5D level has been crap.
Those other four examples got also rated by specific categories, rather than the complete level. Your SMB remakes made use of great use of triggers, and the attempt to create a remake as exact as possible. I won't deny that both levels were ok-good.(I personally prefer 1-1.)

If I'm rating a LL level I split it up into several categories. Which are
gameplay, graphical work, Additional stuff: Trigger work, music choice, length of the level itself, difficulty, amount of effort, originality and my overall thoughts. After that I'm more or less forced to push that all into your SM63/LL rating system and think about how much points each category deserves. Also the amount of critical points, I'm mentioning /=/ how good I'm thinking about a level.

I probably would have rated it with 3 as well. But I had no time to do so thus far.

That's exactly why I chose those. I was trying to show that most people do (and IMO should) rate levels based on what the levels are attempting to do, rather than their own idea of whether it is an "actual" LL level. As long as a level is at least somewhat enjoyable in some way, then it's a decent level.

Levels shouldn't all be rated by one standard. At best, the gameplay of a remake is only going to get as good as the original, and the graphics can only be so much better if it's not trying to be 100% accurate. They generally won't be long, difficult, or original, because they don't need to be. Concept/test/remake levels will almost always have a ton of trigger work. Amount of effort will always apply to any level, though.

I'm guessing it's because levels with a story are generally longer, and unless the level is made solely for the story, or the story detracts from the level itself, a long good level will be considered better than a short good level.

I've actually been planning that for a while now, what with the gravity effects and stuff. It will be my next LL project after the LLLDC and possibly before Portal in LL (there's a trigger bug that needs to be fixed before I can do that).
