Rather than quoting my reasons for disapproval, I'll tell you what could help make your levels more likely to be approved:

  • Try not to use so many enemies in a small area. It is better (and sometimes more professional) to space them out and focus more on placement than quantity, because they can be harder to dodge or defeat if you place them in certain ways. Experimenting helps.
  • When making your level's visuals (or the way it looks), try to make it look like something you could see in the real world. That is a good first step in improving graphics, because as a level designer you want the player's experience with the level's atmosphere to be as real as you can.
  • Add variety to everything in your level. Use many different tiles & sprites. The same thing(s) over and over again gets boring.
  • Avoid tile and item cutoff as much as you can. If you don't know what "cutoff" is, try this:

  • Try to make as much of an effort as you can. Don't make levels just to finish them, have fun designing them! And also try to make sure that everything in your levels work properly.
  • Check to make sure your level isn't too confusing. Have others (or yourself, if you can put yourself in another's shoes) test it and see if they can understand what has to be done through cues. CUES.
  • Above ...or below all else, make sure your level is NOT impossible to complete. PLUS you should make sure there aren't any pits, dead ends, or traps that cannot be escaped.

I suppose I gave you too much to think about at once, so I'll just simplify it to what could help you out with your particular level (which you edited).


Here's what I think you should consider if you want your space adventure level more likely to be approved:

  • Try to use much more than just 1 kind of tile. There are many more tiles you could use together to make the level more interesting. Also, use tiles when they are necessary.
  • Single-block tunnels aren't something to make if you want to put good effort into your level. In fact, there is too much tunnel in this level - to the point of near-complete blandness. I suggest you remove the tunnel passages and focus more on platforming, since you should want to make enough room for the gameplay.




NOTE: It could help more if you got an opinion from other (Level) Moderators too. I'm working myself a little too hard, and I don't think this should be a one-man job. :3 All this thinking is giving me a headache, in all seriousness.

I've nothing to say to this problem, as it's seeming that he's got enough to chew on for now. Just adding that I'm rather staying silent than simply disagreeing with several points that have been made from you and a few other designers. (Portal mainly)

For that note of yours. I'm trying my best to help out aside from working full time, having several problems to fix and something called RL as well. I'm taking it rather bad to hear these statements. Just saying. : /
