This seems like a very common plunder that everyone went through at one point or another.
"I spent the last ten minutes making the best level ever! I want to make sure I don't lose all this work!"
Well, first thing's first, it's probably not a good level. But that's aside the point.
"Gee, that was mean."
Yeah, I know.
Anyway, here's an visual tutorial on the different ways to save and submit a level!
First thing's first. In order to make a really good level, saving your work and continuing it later is a must.
An example of a good level: show
The first thing you want to do when you're done designing for the day is go into the File tab on the topleft. Click it and go into Save Course. This should be common sense.
magic is happening: show
Now, you should have two options. Output as Code and Save to your Browser's cookies. For now, I'll teach you how to save to your non-edible cookies. Keep in mind that this is probably the most unreliable way to save.
If you want to skip down to the other way, because for some reason, the scroll down is too far (How in the world would it be?) Click This.
runouw make the windows fancier: show
Saving to your Cookies
Before you say anything, no, these are not the delicious tasting kinds. If you tried to eat this, you would probably kill yourself.
"Awwwwwww..."
This is actually really simple, but sometimes it doesn't work. It depends on your internet browser (ex. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.) and your browser's settings.
Let's start from where we left off. Click Save to your Browser's cookies and you should be shown three Save Files. Click Save To next to the file you want to save your level to, and click Yes. Depending on how big your level is, your computer might take a few minutes to save it. Once it finishes, go back to the Save Course window and make sure your level is there. The name of your level, dimensions, and background should be there.
wow i haven't done this in forever: show
And whala- "WAIT! It didn't work for me!"
Oh. Um, maybe you just su- "shut up and teach me"
ok
If it doesn't work, click Local Storage Settings and make sure you have space for your levels to be saved to. This may be different for each computer and browser, but I really don't know. Regardless, it should at least be similar. I can apparently hold 100 kilobytes of level code.
beep: show
Output as Code
Insert innuendo here.
"im 12 n wats inunndo"
...nothing.
Now back to the last checkpoint. Back at the Save Course window, click Output as Code this time around. You should see a bunch of illegible(unreadable) text. That is your level code. Click Copy All to save it to your clipboard. If you don't know what that is, it's basically your copy and paste. Anyone that has ever submitted a level to the old level portal should know how this works.
now this is something i'm more comfortable with: show
Now, we're going to step away from the level designer. Go to you start button (for most of you, it should be the Windows logo)logo and find Notepad It should be in Accessories, but it's much easier to search it. Click it.
omg my real name it's the end of the world: show
A white window should appear. Either Right-click or press ctrl+v. Either will put your code into notepad. Right-click again and select Select All and Copy when you want to work on your level again.
what is this devilry?: show
Make sure you Save. Click the File tab and click Save. Alternatively, you can press ctrl+s.
the future is scary: show
Another window should pop up. In File Name, type in the name of your level or something else you can remember well. Make sure it's saved as a .txt. Usually this will save into your Documents folder, but if you know your stuff, you can move it wherever you want. If you need to, ask your parents or someone else to help you organize. Click Save.
Mercy, stop assaulting me with new knowledge: show
But master, I make levels at a public computer/my parents don't let me save stuff on their computer.
Get your own computer. Build it. Nurture it. Buy a bunch of useless stuff for it.
But I'm just a kid.
Fine.
Another way to save with the code is to Private messageyourself the code. On the forums, go to the box on the top-right. Look for (x new messages) (x means any number.) Click it.
woooooaaaah: show
This should bring you to a (most likely empty) inbox. Click Write PM.
my private parts are showing: show
You should be brought to an email-like page. Type in your username in the white box on top and put a title in Subject. Before you paste your code, click the Code button. If you don't, you will be confused later.
this is too advanced gosh darnit: show
Click Add under Find a Member to make sure you typed your name in correctly. Then click Preview near the bottom to check if your code is in correctly.
my name's not rick: show
If everything is all ready to go, click Submit, which is right next to the Preview button you just clicked a page ago. You'll be redirected(brought) to a private message with your level code.
i love you: show
Now, you can go into your inbox anytime and click the name to get your level code.
awwwwwwww yeeeeeeeeaaaah: show
Wow, you're the best!
But of course.
But how does the new level portal work?
That is a story for another day, lad and/or lass. I want to sleep. Bother someone else.
