Rules on commenting in the portal

I am not very happy about some of the comments I see in the portal, like "this level sucks 1/5" or "OMG AWE 5/5" or "This level is really bad. It sucks."

That is why I decided to make some rules to prevent all this. Here they are!

Rules on commenting in the portal

Rule #1: The Star Rating is there for a reason.
Don't make useless posts like "bad level 1/5" or ": D 5/5". If you feel a level deserves such score, just give the level that amount of stars. Pretty simple. If you have nothing else to add besides the score, just do not comment at all. The star rating was made for a reason.

Rule #2: Respect the designer.
Do not insult the author or the level. If you truly dislike a level, try to explain why rather than attacking it with comments such as "this level is really bad. I have never seen a level so bad before" or "this level is a mess. It probably took you 5 minutes to make it". It is beyond offensive and, honestly, it makes you look very bad. Try to research the problems that you see in the level, and offer a more constructive comment. This does not necessarily mean you have to make a very long review, though. Sometimes brief is better. ;)

Rule #3: Don't get overly angry if someone makes a negative review.
Failure is part of life, sometimes it is important to learn from it. If someone makes a rather negative review, just try to understand what he or she is saying, don't just rage at it. Try changing what they did not like in the level, and see for yourself if it is better or not. If you do not agree, then don't change anything. Nobody is making you change your level. This is your creation, and it is your decision alone what must be done with it. Just don't start raging at those who made the reviews. Even if you don't agree with them, they are as entitled to their opinion as you are. And worse yet, just screaming back and adding fuel to the fire accomplishes nothing.

Rule #4: Don't rage at destructive reviews or offensive comments.
If you find a post REALLY offensive or hurtful, do not reply to it. Instead, use the Mr.Report button or PM a moderator about it. They will decide what needs to be done.

Rule #5: If a level got approved, it means the level moderator had a reason to approve it.
Do not make comments such as "how did this level get approved?" or "Who approved this level", since that counts as backseat moderating (which is against the main rules of the site). Level moderators are the ones that decide whether levels are approved or not. If you truly feel that the level should have not been approved, go PM a moderator; do not post that in the level topic. It is very offensive both to the designer and the level moderator that approved it.

Rule #6: The rules that apply to other sections of the forums, also apply here.
No smile abuse, try to have as good grammar and spelling as you can (use a dictionary or a translator if you do not speak English very well), no flaming, no advertisements (that includes posting links to your levels in other's level topic), and pretty much all the other rules that are here and here.

Rule #7: Do not be afraid to use the EDIT button. It makes wonders.
Double posting is not allowed unless you have a good reason to do so (feel free to PM a Level Moderator and ask if it is or not). If you want to make a correction or clarification on a post and you forgot, just use the edit button. It allows you to edit previous posts, and that way you won't waste space in the forums.

Special Rule: do NOT downrate.

Have you carelessly given 1-star ratings? That is against the rules. If you do believe that a level deserves such a low score, at least be kind and leave a comment on why. However, level moderators will decide whether your rating is appropriate or not. If you believe that you were accused without reason, feel free to send them a PM. Be sure, however, to stay calm and DO NOT RAGE. Level Moderators are rational people, they will discuss with you as long as you discuss with them in an appropriate way.

I am well aware most of these rules are pretty much common sense, but still, I believe they need reinforcement, since the portal is getting filled with these kind of comments.

This has been approved by multiple moderators at all levels, as the next few posts prove. These are real rules that people must follow.
History: show
First approval: "Yep. You have my authorization for that" ~blackyoshi
... from back before he shortened his name to just -BY ...

DoramEdit: Cleaned up formatting a touch, Clarified the language in one or two spots, fixed some links, and fixed a couple of not-obvious typos. I'm a helper.
... What. This wasn't stickied?? Well, it is now...

Thanks for doing this, it's really appreciated.

It will however need to be edited at some point. Your writing is hard to read, so general improvements should be made by the lovely staff of this site.

And just as a general note, we have been revamping the level posting rules for the entire site which, unfortunately, will make this rather redundant. Still a big thank you though!

And by level mods you mean normal mods, right? :3

MP3 EDIT: Nahh, although after seeing Mirror Mount in that beautiful LDC banner of yours I've decided to be not so forceful.

StarEDIT: You know it's me who made the banner, right? :3 Then it's actually normal for MM to be in it :3

I just want to say that this is going to be extremely helpful to me and many others. I personally find this to be easy to understand (though it has been edited by some Moderators), and that is very nice.
I wasn't aware of a few of the points before, and I definitely have learned off of this the minute I finished reading. Thank you very much! :)

Double post, but for good reason. Rule #7 added, and downraters rule (with the permission and advice of blackyoshi) has been added as well. Someone should probably edit my post to check grammar and such.
