at the moment, I can recall we had Water and Death themes for SM63 already so Underwater and Tragedy for SM63 would be a little redundant

though to be frank a lot of the themes we've used in the past were pretty open ended, who's to say we can't reuse them?

I actually keep supporting a gimmick-orientated SM63 theme like Caps or FLUDDs.

"Volcano" hasn't actually been done yet ... we had "Fire" but that also allowed open Fire Field levels in the 22nd LDC. "Mines" would be a sort of home match for me. As for the LL themes, I have to say that some of them are more fit for a duel IMO ...

Caps and FLUDDs maaaaaaaaaybe could work but not really. Its hard to imagine something original with them.

Same with Volcano. It's pretty strict just by itself; there's no way to make a volcano without using the same format and the same tiles.

Mines could work, but it's still not a very good theme, and might be kept for the future when we run out of good ideas.

I disagree. It's probably a bit harder than the usual themes, since it's a gameplay restriction rather than a graphical one, but it's absolutely doable. Not only there are tons and tons of creative ways to use caps and fludds, but you can also definitely go for the basic approach.

Mines and Volcano though, while definitely doable, might fall for the same mistake the Urban LDC did, being too especific and difficult to work with.

We could always re-do some LDC themes though. I think an Unfinished Level 2nd edition could definitely work.

Hm. Probably got to put the hopes down for Mines on second thought. But other than Urban, there's a fix tileset for Volcano and we see quite many stray portal levels around volcanoes, so it's kinda clear that this theme would also be something proper for newer designers.

That doesn't change the fact that it's still a really dull and restrictive theme considering SM63's limitations with tiles and gameplay

Limited to a volcano theme: yeah, volcanoes don't appeal very well to my eye unless you think WAY outside the box to make it stand out.

And yeah, LL has less restriction since you can make background tiles and a lot more.

Because we still have thousands of other themes we could use before we start reusing old ones. Certainly not all of the ones in this topic, but there are some simple ones that would probably work well.

Yeah, but truth be told I wouldn't mind having another Runouw.com theme in LL for example, it would be a much different experience given LL's toolset.
