Contest Theme Suggestions

Post your suggestions for the next Level Designer contest, whether it be Last Legacy or Super Mario 63, here!
If it's a theme that would only work for one game or the other try to clarify. Also, please make sure you can actually do something out of your theme suggestion. Provide a few ways for your theme to work, like a good tileset for it, some gimmicks to make it fit the theme more, etc. If you have to pin it down to a really precise glitch, then it's way too specific. If you have no idea how you can make it, it's impossible for the average level designer.
Also, now that we have a brand new thread, try to check previous suggestions now that we don't have about 200 pages of suggestions. :raz smile:

Oh is this part of the new rearrangement? Cool.
Alright umm...how about cubism? Like Picasso. Could that work in SM63 and LL?

How about "Natural Disasters"?

Making a level involving one of the many natural disasters, or even two.

For example, I can make a level about a foreign land facing a massive flood and Mario has to save them somehow. Or, I can make a level about Mario having to fight against hurricanes and landslides to reach the top of a mountain.

How about an Artificial theme of sorts? Stuff that's not natural, like maybe man-made materials or whatnot?

Natural Disasters could be good; just not sure about the hurricane part.

Artificial is hard to imagine something concrete, unless you mean stuff like Plastic Beach, in which case it's a little bit too strict.

Did we have that one before? I can't quite remember.

Night time or darkness theme maybe? Unless that's too much like Space.

I'm sure a number of these have already been suggested, but I'm running down everything I can think of right now...

SM63 Only
  • Hat Trick (Must use the Cap Powerups)
  • Stars and Stripes (Must use lots of either Red Coins or Silver Stars - no plain Shine sprites)
  • Lone Star (No Red Coins or Silver Stars)
  • Flooded (Must use FLUDD)

LL Only
  • "Hands Free" or "Kick Boxing" (Only weapon allowed is Handcuffs)
  • "Shot Put" or "Thrown" (Only allowed weapon is thrown - fireball, axe, or ring)
  • "Duel" or "Sword Fight" (Only allowed weapon is swords)
  • "Upside Down" "Topsy Turvy" or simply "Gravity" (Whole level must be gravity altered)
  • "Colorful" or "Rainbow" or "Monochrome" (Whole level must have color modification of some sort - either multiple colors or one specified color)
  • "Blind" or "Spotlight" (Must use the Darkness trigger at 100% for the whole level)
  • "Slo-mo" or "Lag" (Must use Time Control trigger)
  • "It Takes a Village" or "Villager" or "Townie" (Must have some part of the level set in a village/town with multiple NPCs)
  • "Grinding" (Finishing the level must be by collecting multiple drops from enemies, or gathering specified number of coins or similar mechanic)

Both
  • All or Nothing (either uses all available powerups or none at all)
  • Bottomless Pit (whole or most of level needs to be platforms over empty space)
  • Mining (Finishing the level by breaking through the ground - breakable blocks for SM63 or lots of Delta for LL)
  • Vertical (Self explanatory)
  • Tragedy (Unwinnable level, but asks that you die in a specific way)
  • Long Haul (All entries must be at least 999 in one direction)
  • At Death's Door (Must play level with little to no life and/or no health powerups)
  • Bouncy House (Must have some mechanic in it for bouncing the player along for some part of the level - either platforms or bouncing off of enemies)
  • Race (Level must played under some kind of time constraint - either an actual timer, or forced movement/autoscroll)
  • Moving blocks (Level must be made of only moving blocks)
  • Switch (Finishing the level must require hitting a switch of some kind)
  • Underwater (Whole level must be under water)
