The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords

Chapter 1: Four Links
A group of bandits are attacking a tavern in Hyrule Castle Town. "It's Jago's Gang! Help!" a voice shouted. "Go on lads!" the leader of the bandits said, "Take whatever you like!" "What a fine and prosperous town!" one of the bandits said. "Stop! Don't take that!" a woman cried, grabbing one of the bandits, which was holding a crate. The bandit grabbed the woman. "I like you, pretty one!" he said. "Eeeeek!" the woman shouted. Crash! A boy jumped through the window and kicked the bandit that was holding the woman in the face. The bandit dropped the woman and fell to the floor.

"Run while you can, lady!" the boy called. "Yer dead, kid!" the bandit said as he climbed to his feet. All the bandits crowded around the boy and the woman covered her eyes, not wanting to see what would happen. Slash! The boy spun around and slashed all the bandits, seriously injuring them. The woman opened her eyes and couldn't believe what she saw. The boy sheathed his sword and a bandit stirred. "Y-you're Link...the left-handed hero! B-but you're j-just...a kid!" he said in disbelief. Thump! The bandit fell to the ground. Link walked away. In the town square soldiers had gathered to take out the bandits. "We are here and...ready to...," the captain started to say. "Too late!" a villager said. "What?!" the captain replied in shock, "Him again?" He saw Link in the crowd.

"Link! Wait!" he called. He caught up with him and said, "You're a Hyrulean Knight. We work as a team. You mustn't act on your own! Our unison is our strength!" "If I waited for you guys, the bandits would've gotten away," Link replied, looking over at his father, then walking off. "Besides, I work better alone!" he called, "I don't need any help! I can handle anything that happens in Hyrule all on my own!"

Inside the Throne Room the captain walked in. "What are we to do?" he asked, "He's skilled, but he's arrogant and insubordinate. He doesn't obey anyone...not even me, his captain and his father! You're the only one he listens to. Won't you help...Princess Zelda?" "Do not worry captain," the princess replied, "Your son is a lot like you. In time he will become a fine knight." "Thank you for your kind words," the captain said, kneeling down, "My apologies, princess." He left. Link peeked around the curtain. "Is he gone?" he asked.

"No matter what I do, he never stops nagging! 'Do this! Don't do that!' I got the bandits!" "He is the captain of the guard. Can you at least try to obey?" Princess Zelda replied, "Do you see how many gray hairs you're giving him?" "I'll try...I guess," Link said, "Anyway, look! I got you this in town today!" He handed Zelda a flower. "How beautiful!" she replied, "Is it wildflower season already?" "We used to play in the flowers all day long, remember?" Link explained, "Now you're too busy to even go out and see them." "True...," Zelda replied, smelling the flower, "But when you bring the wildflowers to me...I can see the whole land of Hyrule." Seven maidens appeared and said, "We are ready, Princess Zelda." Link jumped in surprise and turned around. "Thank you handmaidens," Zelda replied, "Let us go to the chapel." She looked at Link. "Come, Link. Watch as we check on the seal of the Four Sword," she said.

"The seal?!" Link replied, shocked, "Why now?" They all went to the chapel. "I had a vision of evil...," Zelda said, "A large black cloud approaching Hyrule. Something awful is coming. Perhaps he is returning." "It can't be!" Link replied in shock, "That demon was slain years ago!" "Long ago, the evil wind mage Vaati cast a pall of darkness and fear all over Hyrule," Zelda began, "A single hero appeared to rescue the maidens Vaati kidnapped. When he drew his sword, the hero magically split into four beings. Together, the four heroes trapped Vaati and all his demons below a stone seal. The seal is hidden in a temple somewhere in Hyrule...and held in place with the hero's weapon...the Four Sword. I fear something may be wrong at the Four Sword Sanctuary. We cannot allow Vaati to escape!"

The maidens and Zelda put their hands together and a part of the floor started shining brightly. "Could the demon come back?" Link thought, "Well, let him try! I'll smack him down so hard he'll wish he was still in the ground!" Suddenly one of the maidens disappeared. "What?" Zelda said, surprised. All the maidens disappeared, leaving a dark light where they were standing and the portal's light turned dark. "Th-the maidens...," Link said, shocked, "They're disappearing!" A dark flame appeared on the portal and a dark figure that looks just like Link stepped out. "Wh...who are you?!" Link said, grasping his sword. "Me?" the shadow replied, "I'm the hero Link. Heh heh." "What?!" Link replied in shock. He drew his sword and leaped at the shadow. "Stupid phantom!" He slashed at it. "! My sword went right through him!" Link said in disbelief. The shadow went right through Link and grabbed Zelda. "Link!" she cried as she was pulled into a portal. Link jumped in the portal just as it was disappearing. He found himself in the Four Sword Sanctuary.

"I'm in...the Four Sword Sanctuary! Where'd that shadowy guy go? Zelda! Princess Zelda!" he called. He stopped and rested. "Zelda was kidnapped! She said something awful was going to happen! What can I do? How can I help her?" He spotted the sword and grasped it. "Wait!" he thought, "If I draw the sword, I might break the seal holding Vaati and his demons! ...I have to risk it! I don't have any choice!" He pulled the sword from the stone and held it high in the air. He suddenly split into four, with different tunic colors: Green (the real Link), Red, Blue, and Purple. "W-what the?!" the Green Link said. "So the legend...," the Blue Link started. "..."He who draws the sword will split into four"...," the Red Link said. "It's true!" the Purple Link said. "Wow...umm...it's a little weird seeing...three other guys with my face...," the Green Link said. "It's my face too!" the Blue Link said, glaring at the Green Link. "But four Links means four times the awesomeness! Together we can save the princess easily!" the Green Link said. "Yeah!" the others said in unison, raising their fists in the air.

Suddenly a dark fog came out of the pedestal and a giant stone figure formed. "Free...," it said, "I'm free! Ha ha ha ha!! I'm free! How many centuries has it been?" "Is that the demon?!" the Red Link said in terror. "We did break the seal!" the Blue Link said. "Sorry, I know you just got out but...," the Purple Link said, "we have to put you away again!" The Green Link slashed the figure's arm. The arm formed back. "Wha...?! His arm just grew back!" the Red Link said. "So what happens if we cut off all four limbs at once!" the Purple Link said. They all jumped at the figure, but the green and blue Links bumped into each other and fell to the ground.

"Ow!" the Blue Link said, "What're you doing?!" "It's your fault!" the Green Link said, "I was gonna get his right arm!" Red Link started slashing the giant in random places and so did Purple Link, but the giant regenerated. "Wait a second!" Green Link called, "We can't just keep flailing around! Against an opponent this big we have to work as a team!" "How do we do that?" Red Link asked, "I've never worked on a team before!" Green Link couldn't believe what Red Link said. "Ha! I'm a one-man team!" Blue Link said. "Team schmeam! I don't need any help!" Purple Link said.

"W...what?! I'm not really such a jerk, am I? I just became four times as selfish!" Green Link said. He recalled what his father told him: "You're a Hyrulean knight! We work as a team!" "Oh, father! If I'd listened to you, this wouldn't be happening!" The giant started inhaling deeply, causing a gust of wind. "H-he's gonna...," Purple Link said, "breathe us in!" "We can't lose!" they all said at the same time. They jumped at the figure and slashed the giant apart. "Was that Vaati?" Green Link wondered aloud. "He is a wind mage. That might not have been his true form," Purple Link put in. The shadow of Link lurked in the shadows nearby and said, "Vaati is reborn! Thank you, Link! Next time we'll bury you! The fact that there are four of you will only make it easier!" "Vaati is free again!" Green Link said. "If the legend is correct, he wants to rule Hyrule! Let's get back to Hyrule!" Red Link put in.

"Wait guys!" Green Link said, "We can't all be Link. We need nicknames!" "I wear red, so call me Red," Red Link said. He turned to the Blue Link. "You're Blue," he said. "Huh?!" Blue Link said in surprise. Red walked over to Purple Link. "Purple. No. Violet?" he said. "Isn't that a girl's name?" Purple Link replied. "How about just Vio?" Red suggested. "Works for me," Purple Link said, "and the other one is Green." "Right! And I'm the main Link because I wear green!" Green Link said. "You think you're better'n me jus cuz you wear green?!" Blue said, unsheathing his sword and jumping at Green. "Take it off! We're switching tunics and hats right now!" he said in anger. "Geez! Why isn't "Blue" me more laid back and mellow?" Link wondered aloud as he dodged Blue's attack, "If we're all the same person, why are our personalities so different?" "Simple," Vio said, "We're all a part of Link's whole personality."

He walked over to Green and patted him on the back. "You're focused and motivated," Vio said. He jerked a thumb at Blue. "Blue over there however is hotheaded and aggresive," he said. "What?!" Blue said, his face flushed with anger. Vio walked over to Red and ruffled his hair. "Red here is innocent and optimistic," Vio said. Red giggled and said, "Vio is super cool!" "I'd prefer calm and collected," Vio replied. "Great, now that we're all acquainted with one another, let's go see what's up at the castle!" Green said. "Right," Vio replied.

Chapter 2: The fall of Hyrule Castle
At the castle a horde of flying monsters approach the castle. "W...what's that black shadow riding on one of those monsters?!" a guard said, frozen in fear. "Fly! Fly my dark ones!" Shadow cried from atop a monster, "Tear down Hyrule Castle! There's a new Link in this chain!" The monsters started attacking the castle, slashing it, burning in, biting it, everything you could imagine. "The seal must have been broken!" Link's father said as he slashed one of the monsters, "Don't let the demons have the castle!" He slashed another monster in two, but then heard a scream and ran to a room.

"Princess, are you alright?" he called. He looked into a room and gasped. Link was lying, weakily, on the floor against the bed. Link's father dropped his sword and ran over to his son. "Son! What happened to you? Did you try to fight alone again? You fool!" he looked into the sky and said, "Gods of Hyrule! Save my son! Take my life but spare his!" "My, my...what a good father you are," Link said, "It's so touching I could even cry." It turned out to be Shadow Link and he attacked the captain, grabbing him. He disappeared in a puff of smoke. "Heh heh. Let me welcome you to the Dark World. Heh heh heh...," Shadow Link said evilly.

Outside and not too far from the castle, the four Links headed towards it. "Aren't we there yet?" Vio asked. "We should see it when we cross the river!" Green said, pointing. "Can we rest a little?" Red asked, panting and sweating. "We don't have time for that. We've got to tell my father about all this as soon as possible!" "Hm?" Vio said, noticing something. The other Links noticed Vio looking at something and looked at it as well. "Thats...," Blue started to say. "...Arcy...," Vio said. "...the castle cook!" Red exclaimed, "Hey! Arcy!" "Idiots! Not all at once!" Vio said. "Arcy! Thank goodness! We got lost trying to find the...," "Stay back!" Arcy ordered, grabbing a stick and pointing it at them, "You monsters! How did you find us all the way out here?"

"Monsters?" Red replied, tears welling up in his eyes, "That really hurts!" He rubbed his eyes in sadness. "Listen, Arcy," Green explained, "I drew the Four Sword and got split into four. But inside we're the same Link!" ""All the way out here"?" Vio thought. "I used to think you were a good kid!" Arcy said, backing away from the links, "But those things you did...you're a demon for sure!" "What did I do?" Green asked. "Wait! Do you mean a dark, shadowy Link?" Vio asked. Green gasped and leapt at Arcy. "The castle!" Green asked, "What happened at Hyrule Castle?!"

At Hyrule Castle, the Links look shocked at all the damage. "All this...," Green said as he looked at the damaged walls and statues, "...in one day?" Blue fell down and slammed his fists on the ground. "No!" he said angrily. "Blue! Cool it!" Vio said, grabbing Blue. "It's awfully quiet...," Red said, looking around. "Arcy said there were monsters here," Vio said. Clang... "What was that?!" Green asked, alert. "It came from that room over there!" Vio said, pointing down a hall at a doorway. Clang...clang...clang... "It's getting closer!" Red said.

Green looked in, but jerked his head back. "That's Artura's Armor! Father's top knight!" Green whispered to the other links, "Is he alive in there? ...or...?" A suit of armor came walking into the hallway and turned towards the links. It slashed the air with its sword and came down, aiming for Blue, but missed and hit the floor. Suddenly, a whole army of armor suits surrounded the links. "They're knights of Hyrule!" Vio said, "Stop! Wake up!" "No!" Red said sadly. The armor suits swarmed the links and started to attack. Green sheathed his sword and used its sheath to block an attack from a knight.

"What're you doing, Green?" Blue said alarmingly, "Fight or they'll cut you down!" "But...what if they're just being controlled? We know these guys!" said Green, "We trained together...ate together..." Blue jumped over and whacked a knight that was advancing on Green. He grabbed Green and said angrily, "Well, they're enemies now! Do you want to die?!" The knights surrounded the links once again and pointed their swords at them. Tak, tak... "Well, well... Your concern is quite pathetic." Shadow Link stepped out of the shadows and flicked his hand. The suits of armor fell to the ground lifeless. "You!" said Vio. "They're just my toys," Shadow said, "You're late.. I got tired of waiting." "What have you done with Princess Zelda? Release the maidens!" Green demanded.

"The princess?" Shadow replied, "Carrying her off was quite heard, actually. Here." He tossed a piece of Zelda's necklace onto the ground at Green's feet. "If she behaves, I won't mistreat her. But soon enough the darkness will win and she'll be one of us." He said. "Who are you?! One of Vaati's demons?" Green asked. "I told you, I'm the hero Link. I'm your shadow, your living reflection in the Dark World." Shadow replied. "What?! My shadow?!" Green replied, shocked. "You will learn things like that soon," Shadow replied.
