Runouw's Forum - M's Revenge Arc: Chapters 5-7
Here's a preview of Chapter 6. I finally had an idea for how to start it off, so I had to write it down immediately. Why not show it to you afterwards, then?
"Good evening, Master Shadow."
The figure approaching the entrance to the dormitories smiled at the caretaker, a white haired man who looked about 20 years old. One of the Unchosen Ones. He fought back the feelings of pity slowly arising within him, not wanting them to be shown on his face. "Yes, good evening to you too."
"Are you here for...?" inquired the caretaker.
"Yes. It's time for one of them to finally go out to see the world. Unless he prefers not to, of course," said Master Shadow. The caretaker nodded, and entered the dormitories. Master Shadow followed.
It was very dark inside the small building, with only a small torch lighting every room. The children living there could not stand too much light. Both Master Shadow and the caretaker were accustomed to all of this.
They arrived at the main room of the dormitories. The sleeping quarters. The children rarely left this room, only at dinner time. One meal per day was enough for all of them. The caretaker opened the door. At once, all heads inside the room turned to look at both of them.
There were about 20 children in the room. Nearly every one of them had stood up, as a sign of courtesy for Master Shadow. All with identical white hair, white eyes, and very similar faces. In any other situation, it would've been extremely difficult to identify the particular child Master Shadow was looking for, but he knew just by glancing at each of them once.
"Anonymous 5-3006, please step forward."
All of the children who had stood up stepped back to make way for one particular child, the only one who had not stood up when the two men had entered. He made his way slowly to the front of the room, glacning up at Master Shadow as he did.
"Is it time?" The voice sounded hoarse, as if he were not used to using it. Indeed, he wasn't.
"Yes. Let us walk." Master Shadow led the small boy out of the room.
Once outside, Master Shadow turned to face the boy, and asked, "So? Have you chosen a name yet?"
".....No," the child answered.
"Will you choose one?"
"No," he replied.
"You know that the power I have given you entitles you to a name, don't you?"
"Yes. But a useless being such as myself needs no name."
Master Shadow scrutinized the small boy. The reason he had been able to tell him apart from the rest was obvious. The unique, elaborate mark on the child's bare chest told him all he needed to know. "Very well then. As you have not chosen a name, and seem stubbornly set on not choosing one, tomorrow you will become a User."
"...but, what about-?"
"You will continue to protect the Mark of Acquisition, as always. Its power will enable you to keep some of your memories, but they will be hidden deep in your thoughts. Do not worry though, they will arise once again when they are needed."
"....what will be my User Name?"
Master Shadow looked one last time at the boy, then stepped outside the building.
"Brandobrawl."
