The Runouw Brawl
Posted: November 27th, 2011, 1:45 pmHey! TheZunar123 here, bringing you a brand new story! It's where me and two friends of mine venture through the world of the Smash Bros. games. The title is a little misleading; we go through all three Smash Bros. games to date. It's hard to give you details without spoiling the story, so why don't you go ahead and read it?

It's been years since Runouw City's last attack, and the memory of ShadowtheBowser has just about faded away. Only Runouw, the mods, and four users remember the incident because they were heavily involved.
However, they had to undergo a special operation to remove the powers given to them in The Runouwlutionary War because it was affecting them mentally; they had random mood swings, and would randomly spazz out, cursing someone out, which got broken up and settled down by the mods.
One peaceful day in Runouw City, TheZunar123 goes to Demonik's Tavern, and orders his usual: a big glass of chocolate milk. As he is sitting there drinking his milk, MKSTAR26 walks in.
"Hey MK," said Zunar.
"Yo Zunar! What's up?" MK asked.
"Not much, just sitting here drinking my chocolate milk. C'mon, take a seat," Zunar said, gesturing towards the bar seat next to him.
"Thanks," MK replied, and he sat down. "I'll take a Coke, please."
Demonik handed him a Coke, and MK popped it open and started guzzling it.
"So, MK. I was thinking. Since we haven't heard anything about StB in years, how about we go check out his old building?"
MK choked on some Coke. "Say what?!"
"You heard me," Zunar said, sipping his chocolate milk.
"But what if we accidentally turn something on and cause destruction?" MK asked.
"You worry too much, man. It'll be fine." Zunar finished his chocolate milk and handed the glass to Demonik to be washed. "C'mon."
"OK fine, let's go."
Zunar and MK headed to StB's old building. It hadn't been used for years, so half of it was rotted beyond repair. They sneaked around as stealthily as humanly possible and kept their eyes and ears open.
Suddenly Zunar saw something around a corner and put his arm out to stop MK. He looked at MK and put his finger to his lips.
MK slowly peeked around the corner and gasped. "What's StB doing here?!"
"I have no idea, but it can't be good. All these attacks on Runouw City are becoming cliché."
Zunar and MK watched as StB wrote something down on a piece of paper, crumpled it up, and threw it on the floor. StB suddenly got up and disappeared further into the building.
"What's on that paper he threw down?" MK wondered aloud.
"I dunno, but I'm not risking getting caught to find out," Zunar answered.
MK suddenly took off running and crouched behind a table, hiding just in case StB was to come back. He snatched up the paper and ran back to Zunar.
"What's it say?" Zunar asked anxiously as MK unfolded it.
"Idea stolen. Must seek shelter and think of new. What could this mean?"
"I think it means StB had an idea on how to attack Runouw City again, but someone stole it somehow and he needs to think of a new idea."
Suddenly, a beep sounded behind them. They whirled around to see a bot standing right behind them.
"OH SHI-"

Zunar stirred and woke up.
"Where are we?" he wondered aloud, still half-asleep. He looked around, and the scene looked familiar.
This looks like Hyrule Temple from Super Smash Bros. Brawl! he thought. But it can't be! Unless... He quickly got to his feet and looked around. He suddenly noticed that the entire landmass was floating in the air, and below them was total blackness.
About this time, MK woke up.
"Good, you're awake," Zunar replied.
"Ugh, my head..." MK rubbed the back of his head.
"You alright?"
"I guess so," MK answered. "My head hurts, though."
"Can do you do me a favor?" Zunar asked. "Look around. Tell me I'm not hallucinating."
MK sat up and looked around, and his jaw fell open. "Th-this is... But it can't be!"
"Good, at least I know I'm not hallucinating."
MK got to his feet. "I guess we must be in Brawl."
"That's the only logical explanation," Zunar replied. "But first things first. If we're in Brawl, then we need a character."
"I pick Luigi!" MK bursted out suddenly.
"Okay then. Since I've been Pit before, I'll be Link this time."
He walked to the edge of the landmass.
"This is going to seem wacko, but I think we should jump," Zunar said.
"WHAT?! Are you nuts?!" MK's eyes widened in shock.
"Thought you might say that. Trust me on this one."
MK immersed himself in deep thought. After about ten seconds, he looked up at Zunar. "Okay, but if anything bad happens, it's all your fault."
"Sounds fair to me." Zunar walked back a bit, right next to MK. "Ready?"
"Guess so," MK replied.
"On the count of three. One... Two..."
"Three!"
They ran toward the edge and jumped off, plummeting into total blackness.

As the duo fell, the blackness started to turn slightly purple, like the fake blackness of a switched-off computer monitor.
"Hey, d'you think it's p--"
Zunar's speech was interrupted by a sudden crack and solid ground. "Ow."
They got up, and once again looked around. MK tugged at Zunar's sleeve, now thinking that he was hallucinating.
"As I was saying, do you think it's possible that Brawl has shattered?"
"What?"
"Shattered. Different landmarks in their own part of space. We just fell through a gap of it. A gap of... say..." Zunar trailed off, while MK thought of a good explanation.
"Like... like if the character falls below the 'death' line and ends up outside of the level?"
"Yeah, exactly. Except this time there's something below."
Zunar then took in the surroundings and assured MK he wasn't hallucinating; they were in Final Destination.
"Y'know, I'd make a Final Destination joke, except that it's not really the time," MK said, his thoughts far away from any meme.
"Yeah, that's irrelevant. What IS relevant is what we're gonna do. We haven't actually had a clear goal as of yet. Where should we go? What should we do?" Zunar started to ramble.
"Hm, let's start by thinking about what exactly happened," MK said. "Do you think that all the stages of Brawl are organized in the way of the Stage Select Screen?"
"Is Final Destination actually below Hyrule Temple? Because Final Destination is at the top of the screen."
"Wraparound?" MK suggested.
"Hm. This is confusing."
After a long while, Zunar noticed something. "If we can't really go by order of the Stage Select screen, how do we know where's where? And what if where we need to go isn't below us?"
"Good point," MK noted. "But in theory, if we just kept on jumping down in a certain direction, assuming there's wraparound, we'll always get there in the end."
"Yeah, but first we need to work out where to go. What's the most likely place for a villain to be hiding?"
"Uh..." In a wild impulse, MK shouted "PICTOCHAT!"
"What?"
"Pictochat!"
"No, that's stupid. What kind of a villain would hide there?" Zunar's mind boggled at what had popped into MK's head.
"A villain who's tired of the usual setup, and has gone through the lair thing too many times?"
This seemed... vaguely plausible. So, after resting, they decided to set forth to get to Pictochat. Diving down, they fell into the fake blackness and expected to hit solid ground within a few seconds.
But they suddenly froze in space. Nothing had changed; the darkness was still present.
"What happened?"
Zunar's mind whirred. He knew about several of the unused stages in the Smash Bros universe. One of those stages was DUMMY... "We're in an unused stage, only available by hacking!"
"What."
"An unused stage! DUMMY is an unused stage, its purpose also unknown, and only contains an invisible platform!" The details were flooding back, but then one promptly stood out. "But... DUMMY was in Melee..."
How did they get here?

As they floated there on the invisible platform, they started to think wild thoughts. Theories whirled around, each one seeming more implausible than the last.
"Say, I just came up with something," Zunar said.
"Shoot away," MK replied, not really taking interest.
"What if several worlds have shattered?"
"...say what?"
"Melee and Brawl are two separate worlds, right? But if they both shattered, then possibly pieces of them have jumbled up with each other. Here, let me explain."
Zunar took out his Runouw Wrist-PuterTM and drew a diagram, which looked like this:
"Uh, why the hell is there tons of spazzy code on my Wrist-Puter? MK, can you have a look at it?"
"Hm... ERROR_EXTENSION_CORRUPT is easy enough. It means that you drew the image as--"
Zunar gave a wave of dismissal. "I know that, but what about the rest?"
"We have... a non-understandable data dump... something happened at pointer 0x005ee83c in a section called msvcr71..."
"English, please," Zunar cut in, impatient.
"In a nutshell, your computer just decided to show the image AND spaz out with that corrupt error, causing everything to break loose."
"Why?"
"Perhaps because the level we're in is only available by hacking? It's not actually part of the world?"
Zunar took this theory and instantly ran with it, dragging MK off the platform along with himself into the blackness. He wanted to get somewhere normal.
"So... maybe it's not just Brawl and Melee? What about the original Smash Bros?" MK asked.
"Possibly."
To answer that question, they suddenly walked into the Mushroom Kingdom of the original Smash Bros.
"What a coincidence," Zunar said.
"You can say that again," MK replied.
Suddenly, Mario jumped out of a pit in front of them and attacked them.
"What the--?!" exclaimed MK, surprised.
As he was getting up, he realized he was Luigi! To test this theory, he threw a Fireball at Mario.
"Whoa, what the-?!" Zunar said.
A second later he realized that MK was Luigi, and he reached back behind him. Sure enough, he had a sword and shield hung on his back. He pulled them out and charged at Mario.
Mario countered with a Mario Tornado and then attacked Zunar. Zunar pulled out a bomb and threw it at Mario, and then threw his boomerang at him. Mario managed to jump out of the way of the boomerang and it hit MK, knocking him over.
"Hey, watch it!" MK grumbled, getting to his feet.
"Sorry 'bout that, MK!" Zunar caught the boomerang as it came flying back toward him.
Mario used Super Jump Punch on Zunar, knocking him high into the air. Zunar recovered and downward thrusted Mario. MK used Luigi Tornado on Mario and punched him. SMAAAASH! Mario went flying toward the edge of the stage, but managed to not die.
Zunar jumped over to Mario and SMAAAASH'd him with his sword, knocking Mario off the stage.
VICTORY!!!
Zunar and MK high five'd each other.
"Mario didn't stand a chance!" MK said.
Zunar nodded, and then looked down into the nearest pit.
"Thinking about jumping?" MK asked.
"Not exactly," Zunar replied. "I was wondering how Mario jumped up through this hole."
"Now that you mention it, it does seem strange," MK replied. "Unless..."
"Only one way to find out!" Zunar jumped down the hole, followed by MK.

"Ow."
Zunar and MK had hit the ground.
"Wait a minute," Zunar said, looking around. "Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore!"
"What?" MK responded, confused.
"Nevermind. Just look around."
MK looked around.
"This doesn't look like a Smash Bros game." MK looked above him. "Zunar! Look above you!"
Zunar looked up. "What is that?"
"Well, considering we're back in the real world and not in any Smash Bros game, I guess those are portals to travel to the dimensions of the shattered worlds of the Smash Bros games."
That did seem plausible. However, one question still remained.
"What I don't understand is why the worlds of Smash Bros are shattered," MK said.
"Yeah, that puzzles me too," Zunar answered.
As if on cue, a portal suddenly appeared about 10 yards from them.
"Wow, that was a coincidence."
Zunar and MK jumped into the portal, leading to the Castle Siege stage of Brawl.
"Who's that guy?" MK pointed to a figure on the stage with them.
"Welcome." The figure had the appearance of Ike. "My name is Azureflame6."
"Uh... hi. I'm TheZunar123," Zunar said, introducing himself, "and this is MKSTAR26."
"Hi."
Af6 pulled out his huge sword. "Let's see who is the strongest of us!"
Zunar pulled out his sword and shield, and MK struck a battle pose.
Suddenly, a voice came from somewhere. "Ready... GO!"
Zunar jumped towards Af6 and threw his boomerang at him. Af6 countered it, sending Zunar flying backward. MK threw a fireball and then Luigi Missle'd him, but he dodged.
Zunar threw it a bomb and shot an arrow at him. Both hit Af6, but he didn't seem to notice them. Zunar suddenly realized why: he isn't flinching from the attacks.
"MK!" Zunar shouted.
"What?"
"Careful! This guy doesn't flinch!"
As he said that, MK got hit with an Aether.
"You could've told me that sooner!"
MK Super Jump Punch'd Af6 and then Luigi Tornado'd him. Af6 Quick Draw'd MK and then smashed him off the stage.
"MK!!!" Zunar shouted as MK soared off.
Af6 used this distraction to hit Zunar with an Aether and then hit him with a strong attack, leaving him hanging off the edge.
"NO!!!"
Af6 stepped on his hand, making him let go and fall...

"Uh... Gah." MegaRainboom woke up. "Where am I?"
He got up and looked around. He realized he was near StB's old building but he couldn't figure out why. He decided to investigate and started walking towards the building.
"A portal?" Mega happened upon a black portal in the ground. He looked down into it and noticed that inside looked like the Green Hill Zone from Super Smash Bros Brawl.
"If I'm going into SSBB, I need a character." Not a second later, he chose. "SONIC TIME!"
Mega hopped into the portal and found himself in Green Hill Zone. "How absolutely nice of you, game. Who do I fight If I'm playing as SONIC?!"
Just then, Shadow appeared in front of him.
"Why the hacks...?" Mega thought aloud. "Oh well. Time to beat up some hacks!"
Mega ran towards Shadow, dodged past him, and initiated a combo. He jumped into the air and attempted a Homing Attack. However, Shadow dodged and used a smash attack.
"Ooof! You wanna play that way, huh? Well, let's go!" Mega dived past him and started taunting him.
As Shadow ran over, Mega began charging up a Spin Dash. As he did, Shadow used Chaos Burst and Mega was blasted into the air. Suddenly, a Smash Ball appeared! Both dived towards it, but Mega got to it first.
"Hmph!" Mega shouted in an echoing voice. "Now I'll show you!"
He transformed into Super Sonic and started beating up Shadow, eventually knocking him off the stage.
Mega suddenly teleported into a strange room filled with portals. On the other side of each one was a Super Smash Bros. stage.
"So... What the heck is going on here?" Mega thought to himself. "Ah, who cares. I should just go off and see if I can find some other guys..."
MK and Zunar had both fallen down, leaving Azureflame6 as the winner.
"They were pathetic," Af6 said out loud.
Mega seemed to hear this. He could only think of jumping off the edge, so that's what he decided to do.
"Wahhhooo!" Mega shouted as he fell down into Castle Siege. "Hey! You there!"
Af6 then turned around. "Who are you, fool? Are you friends with those pathetic fighters, Zunar and MKSTAR?"
"Yes. Yes I am. I'll show you pathetic fighting!"
They both began to charge at each other.
"Let's play!" Mega shouted, dodging Af6's combo.
Mega used a Spin Dash on Af6, causing him to get launched up. Mega took this as an opportunity to hit him, but as he jumped up...
"Take this!" Af6 started an Aether. Mega was already weak from the fight with the Shadow hack, so if this hit him, it could be over.
He dodged, jumped over Af6, and smashed him off the stage. Mega knew what he had to do, and jumped off the stage.
"YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Mega shouted, dropping down. He fell through the blackness, landing on the ground. He found himself on Icicle Mountain. "No way, I have to climb up now?"
He began to jump up the mountain. When he reached the top, he shouted "Can anyone hear me?!"
"Mega?" The voice of Zunar came clearly flowing to Mega's ears. "Mega, where are you?!"
"On top of Icicle Mountain! I thought we were in Brawl, but now Melee?" Mega asked. "Zunar, we need to meet at the room with all the portals. Where are you?"
"At the portals, already!" Zunar replied. "Just jump off; you should show up."
"Okay, here I go..." Mega said, ready to jump. "YEAHHH!"
He jumped off, falling through seemingly never-ending blackness, only to find himself at the portal room again.
"Zunar, there you are! We need to find MK. I heard Azureflame6 talk about him."
"Wait, what? What did you do to him?"
"I smashed him. Not my best performance, though," Mega replied.
"Okay then. Let's head off." Zunar readied himself to jump into another portal. He jumped in, with Mega following him.

MK landed in 75m.
"What the--?! What's this stage?!" MK said, surprised.
Suddenly, something hit him from behind, causing him to fall onto his stomach.
"Oof!" MK grunted. He rolled over onto his back and saw what had hit him: Donkey Kong's fist.
DK roared and beat his chest like an ape.
"Oh shi.....take mushrooms," MK said. He quickly got to his feet and jumped to another platform, readying a fireball.
"Eat this!" MK said, throwing the fireball. It bounced across the ground and hit DK right in the mouth.
"I didn't mean literally, but that works for me!" MK said.
DK got up and glared at MK.
"Uh-oh... something tells me I'm in deep doo-doo," MK said to himself.
DK jumped over to MK and slammed him down into the ground, and repeatedly punched him.
"Owowowowowowowowowowowowowow!!!!!!" MK yelled.
DK finally stopped punching him, pulled him out of the ground, and punched him, sending him flying off the stage.
"Whoa!!!" MK yelled. He flew for what felt like an eternity.
Finally, he hit a wall.
"Oof!" he grunted, falling to the ground.
"Where am I now?" he wondered aloud, after regaining his composure.
He was in Onett, from Melee. And you know what that means...
A kid with a yellow-and-blue striped shirt and a cap turned gangster style suddenly landed in front of him.
"Who're you?" the kid asked.
"I'm MKSTAR26," MK replied, getting up. "Who're you?"
"I'm Ness," the kid replied.
MK already knew this, but acted as if he didn't.
"You look like Luigi," Ness said.
"Yeah, I know," MK replied.
"Where'd you come from?" Ness asked.
"You sure are a nosy little kid," MK replied.
"Little kid?! You take that back!" Ness said, angry.
"Wow, no need to overreact, kid," MK said.
"PK FIRE!" Ness shouted.
"Oh crap!" MK said. Momentarily, he was burned with psycho-kinetic fire. "Ouch!"
"Take it back!" Ness shouted.
MK jumped on top of a nearby building and looked down on Ness.
"Coward!" Ness said, jumping up towards MK, who jumped backward. "Fight me like a man!"
MK suddenly jumped up and Luigi Tornado'd Ness, who countered with PK Thunder. MK then Super Jump Punch'd Ness, and jumped away to avoid being attacked. Ness chased MK and then bashed him with his baseball bat.
"Truce!" MK said, "I take it back!"
Ness put away his bat.
"That's more like it," Ness said.
MK got up. "Man, for looking like a kid, you've sure got some power packed in you. Wow," MK complimented.
"You can't judge a book by its cover, you know," Ness replied.
"That's for sure," MK said, dusting himself off. "Anyways, you want to help me look for my friend?"
"Sure, I guess," Ness answered. "I have nothing better to do."
"Alright! Lets-a-go!" MK said, running off the side of the stage into another portal.
Zunar and Mega landed on the Bridge of Eldin.
"Ohey, I know this place. It's from Twilight Princess," Zunar said.
"Yeah?" Mega replied.
"Speaking of The Legend of Zelda, have you played Skyward Sword yet? It's really aweso-"
KA-BOOM!
An explosion suddenly blew a hole in the middle of the bridge and sent Mega flying into another conveniently (or maybe not so conveniently) placed portal.
"MEGA!!!" Zunar yelled.
Suddenly, he was attacked. He threw his attacker off of him and quickly got to his feet.
On the other side of the broken bridge was a black, shadowy-looking Link. Shadow Link cracked an evil smile and swung his sword.
"Oh I see," Zunar said, "Zelda 2 setup here, eh? Well, even though I've never personally made it that far in Zelda 2, let's see how much I fare against my own shadow!"
Shadow Link jumped across the hole in the bridge and attacked Zunar. They exchanged blow for blow, neither gaining the advantage.
Suddenly, a part of a Zelda comic came to his mind.
"He's a shadow. He can do anything you've done before."
Done before? Zunar thought. So that means...
Zunar jumped into the air, and slashed Shadow Link in the head, like the Helm Splitter technique of Twilight Princess. Shadow Link crumpled to the ground.
"Too easy," Zunar said, brushing himself off. "I'll have to try doing Twilight Princess techniques against enemies and see how well I can do them."
A portal opened up in front of Zunar.
"Convenient!" Zunar said, and he jumped into it.

As MegaRainboom landed, he seemed to be in an empty area again.
“Hmm, I wonder if I could change my character?”
As he spoke to himself, a large screen appeared in front of him, and a yellow counter reading ‘P3’ hit him.
“Ah! What was that?” He yelped, picking up the counter. He looked upon the screen. It was Brawl’s character selection screen, but with removed Melee characters as well.
“They were removed for a reason. Oh well. I suppose this should work…?” He questioned, throwing the counter at Toon Link. It landed perfectly, and upon that Mega noticed the other players. He examined it, although he wasn't quite sure who was P1 and who was P2.
Just then, a portal opened up nearby. It wasn't clear what was through it, but he jumped in anyway, saying to himself, “I wonder if I can use the Wind Waker; it is one of the taunts…”
MK and Ness arrived in Brawl's Yoshi's Island.
“So where is this?” Ness asked. “It seems kinda cheerful, but also feels as if something dark was lurking around. Like a setup.”
“This is just Yoshi's Island,” MK replied. “But there isn't another portal…” He continued, thinking on what to do next.
Suddenly, the ground started shaking. “Whoa! Earthquake!” MK exclaimed in shock.
“That’s not an earthquake… It’s a ton of dinosaur-y things!” Ness shouted back, pointing at an oncoming horde of Yoshi.
“We best watch it, there isn't much room around here to screw up,” Ness finished, preparing his PSI.
Upon entering the recently found portal, Zunar found himself on the Pirate Ship level.
“Another Zelda place? Doesn’t seem too familiar…” he thought to himself. He looked around to see a large figure upon the ship’s mast. It appeared to be Mewtwo in his Melee incarnation. “I knew there were Melee levels, but characters too… huh,” He thought out loud.
Upon this, Mewtwo turned around.
“Greetings. I am Carlson, one of many titles. Currently calm, if I could say so. But you have disturbed my peace and you will regret it,” Carlson said.
He lowered himself down from the mast as a portal opened up behind him and a figure flew into his back, knocking him onto his face.
“WHOA!” The figure shouted upon flying out of the portal. The figure landed in front of Zunar.
It shook its head and jumped onto its feet. “Oh… Hey, Zun.” it said, as Zunar noticed a white wand-like object in the figure's belt.
“Who are you, and how do you know my name?” Zunar questioned, eyeing the figure suspiciously. He took another glance at the wand and tried to piece together what it was. He was about to question what it was before the figure replied to his previous question.
“Ah, yeah. It’s me, Mega. I figured out how to change characters, and I remembered I’m best with Toon Link,” Mega said, pulling the wand out. “Oh yeah, and I can use the Wind Waker. Look!”
He performed the Wind’s Requiem and decided to make the wind go north for whatever reason.
Upon feeling the wind change direction, Carlson got up.
“WHAT THE FLYING ♥♥♥♥ WAS THAT ♥♥♥♥?!” He screeched, making both Zunar and Mega flinch.
“WHO THE ♥♥♥♥ DO YOU THINK YOU ARE YOU LITTLE CRAPASS ♥♥♥♥?!” He continued, directing his rage towards Mega.
Mega, in response, smirked and played the Command Melody in an attempt to take control. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
“Well, looks like we’ll need to take him down by hand… or sword, in this case. Shall we?” Mega smiled, unsheathing the Master Sword he had. He then made sure he had his bombs, hookshot and boomerang handy.
“Ready, Zunar? We’re in for a big one.”
“Always.”

MK and Ness prepared themselves for the coming onslaught of the Yoshi horde. Ness charged his PSI and MK prepared some fireballs.
As the Yoshis neared, the duo attacked. Ness rapid-fired PK Fire and MK tossed fireballs as fast as he could. The Yoshis were affected more than normal being that there were so many, that way it's not unfair to the fighters.
The ranged assault didn't hold out for long. Ness eventually exhausted his PP and MK ran out of fireballs.
"Looks like we'll have to take 'em down by hand, Ness!" MK said, preparing a Luigi Missile.
"I hear ya! Let's go!" Ness replied, charging forward with his bat at the ready.
Ness leaped forward, swinging his bat like crazy, which took out about a half a dozen of the Yoshis. MK shot into one Yoshi with tremendous force, sending it flying backward, crashing into about a dozen Yoshis behind it, which all fell over the edge of the stage domino-style.
Ness then pulled out a Mr. Saturn and threw it at the Yoshis, in hopes it would distract them. It took one look at the Yoshi herd in front of it and ran away screaming, as fast as its legs could carry it.
"Wow, that was really effective. Nice going, Ness," Ness told himself.
MK was getting into his element. He Super Jump Punched a Yoshi and Luigi Tornado-ed the next. Super Jump Punch, Luigi Tornado. This pattern repeated about ten times, and then suddenly, MK stopped, swayed a bit, and collapsed.
"Yo dude! Are you okay?!" Ness yelled over the sound of the Yoshi herd's footsteps. He ran over to where MK was lying on the ground, killing off Yoshis as he ran. The herd was seemingly endless, so he couldn't exactly stoop down and check on MK. Instead, he defended him, attacking the Yoshis that came near.
However, there's only so many Yoshis one kid can take out, even though they're easy to beat. Ness quickly got surrounded by the Yoshis, and they stared at him, an angry look in their faces.
"Hey, look, can't we just talk things out?" Ness asked, shaking nervously. If they attack me all at once, I'm done for! He thought.
The Yoshis in front of him charged, and he could hear footsteps behind him, telling him that we was being attacked from all sides.
Well, there go my plans for taking Paula out tonight... Ness thought. That was the last thought in his mind before he was knocked unconscious by the Yoshis.
KA-BLAM!
The duo of Zunar and Mega, playing as Link and Toon Link respectively, simultaneously pulled out bombs and threw them at Carlson. They didn't do much damage, but Carlson was blinded for a second from the explosion. Zunar and Mega seized the opportunity and attacked.
"DOWNWARD THRUST, MOTHER EFFER!" Zunar yelled. Using his weight to his advantage, he jumped above Carlson and downward-thrusted him.
"HOW'S THIS?!" Mega yelled at the same time, attacking Carlson from the side with a strong aerial attack.
Carlson slammed into the deck of the ship, sliding toward the edge. He immediately flipped up and teleported.
"Hahaha! Looks like he was a coward after all," Mega said to himself, thinking Carlson had retreated. Immediately after he said that, Carlson appeared right behind Mega.
"Me? A coward? Laughable!" Carlson said.
Mega instinctively turned around to attack Carlson, but that was a big mistake. Carlson stunned Mega using Disable, and charged a smash attack.
"MEGA!!!" Zunar yelled. Time seemed to slow down as he jumped for Carlson. Carlson released his charge attack just as Zunar reached him, and Zunar went flying off over the Great Sea.
Mega managed to recover and use Carlson's momentary confusion to attack him, sending him flying in the opposite direction that Zunar went.
"That's what happens when you attack legendary heroes!" Mega yelled after Carlson. He quickly turned around and looked in the direction Zunar flew. "Now, about Zunar..."
He caught a glimpse of something flying through the air, but he wasn't quite sure if it was Zunar or not. Mega jumped into the water and swam after it, but soon realized that he couldn't swim that far. He was trapped on the sea, too far from the ship to swim back to it, and too far away from anything else. He started struggling toward the ship, exhausted as he was.
Eventually, his strength gave out, and he sank beneath the dark waters...
"Ugh."
MK shook the cobwebs from his head and sat up, blinking to get used to the bright light.
"Where am I...?" he said, not fully awake yet. He then realized he was lying on the ground. The last thing he remembered was attacking the Yoshi herd and then... nothing.
Suddenly, he remembered about Ness. He quickly got to his feet and looked around.
"Ness! Where are you?!" he called, looking around. "He couldn't have gotten far, this stage isn't that big. Speaking of which, where did that Yoshi herd come from?"
As he was pondering this, he noticed a bunch of footprints leading toward the edge. He followed them and peered down at the darkness below.
"They must've gone down there," MK told himself. He gathered his strength and jumped down into the blackness below. He was no longer as scared of jumping as he was back in the second chapter; he had jumped off stages so many times now it was almost natural to him.
SPLASH!
Zunar hit water and pushed himself up to the surface.
"Ugh," Zunar groaned after he spit out some water he accidentally swallowed. He shook his head to clear the cobwebs and looked around. He seemed to be near a large island with a volcano.
As he swam toward it, he realized how quickly he was tiring out.
"If only I didn't have all this stuff," he complained aloud. He spotted a much smaller island that was much closer and swam to it, collapsing onto the sand from exhaustion.
After a minute or so, he gathered his strength and picked himself up. The little island he was on was very small, only large enough for a single tree and a few pieces of firewood.
"Damn that water's cold," he said, shivering a bit. "If only I could light that firewood..."
Suddenly, a screen suddenly popped up in front of Zunar, surprising him so much he fell backward onto the sand.
"Whoa! The hell?"
The 1P icon suddenly popped off the screen and flew into his hand. He gazed at the screen, examining it.
"A character select? Hmm... not just Brawl characters, but Melee too..."
He suddenly remembered the firewood lying on the ground near him and snapped his fingers.
"Of course!" He gripped the 1P icon and threw it at Lucas. Zunar was engulfed in a white light. His weaponry dissolved into nothingness and he shrank a little. Eventually the light faded and Zunar's character change was complete.
Zunar checked himself all over and then stretched, getting used to his new body. He then thrusted his arms forward and yelled "PK FIRE!" A burst of psychokinetic fire flew from his open hands, igniting the firewood.
"Phew, got rid of that heavy ♥♥♥♥ AND lit the fire. Talk about killing two birds with stone!"
He warmed himself by the fire for a while, peering at the nearby island. There seemed to be a town of some sort over there. In the middle of it was a tall archway that had a sun-like object hanging from it.
"That place looks familiar... It'd be cool to go explore, but that water's freezing..."
Zunar got to his feet.
"PK Fire wouldn't help much, there's too much water. Thunder won't get me that far. Hmm..." He scratched his head in thought.
"That's it!" he burst out a minute later. He climbed the lone tree on the island and faced the nearest part of the nearby town.
"Hope this works!"
Zunar jumped out over the water and then double jumped. Right after his double jump, he twisted around and shot PK Fire back towards the island. Finally, he conjured a PSI Magnet and went flying backward toward his destination. He spun around again and, realizing he wouldn't quite make it to land, used PK Thunder and shot himself the rest of the way, landing safely onto the sandy beach.
"Perfect landing!" Zunar said triumphantly, raising his fist into the air.
Looking around, he spotted a statue off to the left and decided to go see it. It resembled some kind of person, but it had a plant growing on its head. As he was pondering what the statue might be of, he was suddenly sprayed with water.
"What the-?!" Zunar shook off the water and looked at the source of the water.
Mario was standing on the other side of the statue, glaring at him with FLUDD strapped to his back.
"Back for more, eh?" Zunar said. "Couldn't stand to be defeated once?"
Mario looked confused, as if he had no idea what Zunar was babbling about.
Oh, right, I was Link when I fought him last time, Zunar realized.
"Forget it, that doesn't matter. Have you seen your brother lately?"
Mario was mildly surprised at this, apparently he didn't think this kid knew his brother. After a moment, he shrugged, shaking his head.
"Don't talk much, do you? Huh."
Zunar suddenly had an idea. "How about you and I go look for him together? You know this place better than I do, and two heads are better than one, right?"
Mario pondered Zunar's offer for a moment. Or pretended to, rather. Then he jumped into the air, with a cry of "Let's-a-go!"
"Awwwwright!" Zunar said, mimicking Mario's jump. "So, should we look around here?"
Mario shook his head.
"You've already looked around here?"
A nod.
"Okay... how about in that volcano?"
Mario's eyes widened in horror and he panicked for a second, forcefully shaking his head.
"Oh come on, don't be a baby."
Mario continued to shake his head.
"What if Luigi was trapped in there, unable to call for help? Would you just leave him there?"
A moment's hesitation. Apparently he's torn between not wanting to go to such a dangerous place, but at the same time ensuring the safety of his beloved brother. Unspoken is that MK is currently playing as Luigi and finding him will help me more than Mario, but hey, like I said, two heads are better than one.
Finally, Mario reluctantly agrees.
"Great. Now, how do we get in there?"
Mario points to a cave behind the archway with the sun. The cave is in the side of the volcano.
"I was thinking about jumping in from the top, but that's a much better plan. Let's go."
Mario and Zunar set off for that cave.

Blackness.
Total, complete, dark blackness.
That's all Mega was feeling as he slipped further into the deep, cold sea. He no longer had the strength to swim and he was nearing his limit for air. Any second now might be the end...
He could hold his breath no longer. He took a big gulp, expecting cold water to come rushing down his throat, but it didn't come. Just at that moment, his feet hit ground and he no longer felt as if he was underwater.
Mega opened his eyes. He was standing in a very dark room. He squinted his eyes to try and make out something through the darkness, but he was suddenly startled by a loud voice.
"CONTINUE?"
Two floating screens appeared in front of him. One said "Yes", the other "No".
I wonder what would happen if I picked no? Mega wondered. Better not. MK and Zune are still out there.
He reached out and touched "Yes". The options disappeared and the darkness became even darker. So dark, in fact, he couldn't see his hand in front of his face.
Suddenly he found himself back on the Pirate Ship. He had to squint for a few moments to adjust his eyes to the new light, but he recovered and scanned the horizon.
"If I remember correctly, Zune was blasted that way..."
Mega searched on the deck and found the steering wheel. He turned it and the ship started to move. Mega carefully guided the ship toward the distant island in the direction Zunar went.
MK landed in Melee's Mushroom Kingdom 2. On the middle ledge he saw the Yoshi horde huddled together, talking in Yoshese. Looking carefully, he saw the limp figure of Ness lying on the ground in the middle of them.
"Welp, let's do this," MK told himself. He jumped above the Yoshis and Luigi Tornado-ed them. The Yoshis went flying, some falling down the waterfalls into oblivion, some landing on the higher ledges.
MK bent down on one knee to examine Ness. "Ness? You alright, mate?"
No response. MK shook him, but still he was unconscious.
At about this time, the surviving Yoshis were recovering from their daze. They realized what happened and angrily pelted MK with eggs.
MK managed to catch an occasional egg and throw it back at the Yoshis. Surprisingly, the Yoshis were very weak and it only took one egg to send each Yoshi flying far away. As the egg assault lessened, it became easier to retaliate.
Eventually there were only a few Yoshis left, and they had stopped throwing eggs once they realized MK was throwing the eggs back at them. They decided to run for it, with hopes of survival.
MK turned back to Ness. He was still out. MK grabbed a handful of water and threw it in Ness's face. Didn't work, so he tried again. After several attempts he was forced to admit that it wasn't working. Unfortunately, MK was out of ideas.
"What does it take to wake somebody up around here?!" MK shouted in frustration.
As if on cue, a small yellow glowing ball appeared in front of MK.
"A stock ball!" MK cried, grabbing it. He pressed it into Ness's face and it dissolved, causing Ness's face to glow. After a few moments, Ness's face stopped glowing and his eyes slowly opened.
"You alright, mate?" MK asked.
"What... happened...?" Ness groaned.
"The Yoshis got us. They took you here, but I sent them packing," MK replied.
Ness groggily got to his feet and looked around.
"Where are we?" Ness rubbed his eyes.
"Mushroom Kingdom 2."
"How do we get to Onett from here?"
"Onett? Hmm... I'm not sure."
Ness looked crestfallen.
"Don't worry, we'll get you back." MK patted Ness's shoulder reassuringly.
"I certainly hope so."
MK and Ness set off for adventure.
Inside the volcano, instead of the Corona Mountain stage, was a completely different area.
"Since when was Norfair inside a volcano? I thought it was underground," Zunar said to himself.
Mario looked puzzled, as if he too were shocked from the new environment.
Zunar looked around. "I don't see Luigi here anywhere..."
Mario's head sank to his chest, his expression disappointed.
"Don't worry Mario," Zunar said, clapping Mario on the back, "we'll find him. I know we will."
Suddenly the volcano started to shake.
"Oh no," Zunar groaned.
He quickly looked around for the safety capsules that were usually there, but they weren't. He did, however, spot some wreckage that looked somewhat like a raft.
"Over here!" Zunar said, motioning toward the raft.
Mario followed apprehensively, unsure of what was happening. They got onto the raft and there was an explosion. The lava rose extremely fast, caught the raft, and sent it flying upward toward the mouth of the volcano.
"Hold on!" Zunar cried, gripping the raft.
They were shot out of the volcano at high speed. They flew way out over the ocean toward who knows where...
