Thanks, Mic, for your help in the soccer scene!

Dark Yoshi and Highwire were in a crowd, at least by the Revolution's definitions. 27 people, to be exact. 27 people to add to the Revolution.

General Avolerators sat outside in a chair, asking questions of every applicant. Names, skills, age, and reason they joined. It didn't matter what your answers were, however, you were accepted. But Dark Yoshi was still nervous. He was a 14-year old signing up for an army. A small army. Against a colossal army of robots, not to mention the half-crazed slummers.

Highwire, on the other hand, was very relaxed. "Look, Dark, we're the good guys!" he told his best friend. "The good guys always win in the end."

Dark Yoshi replied with "That's in comic books, Highwire. This isn't a comic book, or a movie, it's real life. And out here, usually the good guys die."

"You're so negative, Dark." Highwire said with a grin. "I've already practiced my victory cheer. When we take down every godforsaken Spambot in our beloved city, I'm gonna cheer so loud that even us in the cave will be able to hear!"

"Oh, jeez, Highwire, you are so DEAD." Dark Yoshi shook his head.

"What makes you say that?" Highwire raised an eyebrow.

"Everytime the best friend starts predicting victory, he always dies in the next scene. Like in Independence Day." Dark Yoshi replied.

"Wait, that's a movie." Highwire managed a smirk that didn't seem impolite. "And this isn't a movie, or a comic book. This is real life. And in real life, victory doesn't mean death."

"Touche."

The line slowly started to move forward, and Dark Yoshi said "The only reason I'd think to join is because seeing Elder Mic's dead body in that field that night will scar me forever. I want to kill the S.O.B. who did that to me. And of course, who killed Mic. That's a given."

To Dark Yoshi's surprise, Highwire grinned.

The look on Dark Yoshi's face turned from one of sadness and anger to one of surprise. "Usually that's not a thing that says 'Happy Happy Joy Joy', Highwire." he stated.

"Oh, that wasn't it. I was just remembering the time Mic taught us about Memorial Park." Highwire said, still grinning.

"I smell a flashback." Dark Yoshi said, his mouth twitching at a smile.

A group of kids, a small patch of artificial grass, two goals, and a soccer ball equaled a day of fun. Every day during the breaks from learning, Dark Yoshi brought his soccer ball to Memorial Park, and his friends followed.

His other friend, Kevin Ostar Calvin, or KevinOC as he was known, brought a couple of goals, created by securing two poles in the ground for each side, and 3 other friends, Venexis, Reaper and his cousin MoonShadow, rounded out the 6 people that made up the Soccer Group. That day, it was cold, as every day was in the Caves. It never got warm, because there was no way it could. Everyone bundled up in large jackets as usual and then started playing. It was three on three: Dark Yoshi was the goalie for the team also consisting of Highwire and KevinOC. Their opponents were the two cousins on offense and Venexis as goalie.

"Over here!" cried MoonShadow after Venexis saved a shot by Kevin.

Venexis reached his arms over his head, then flung them forward, releasing the ball at a point just high enough to fly over Highwire's head and land directly in front of MoonShadow, who then started dribbling down the makeshift field towards the other end of the field. Suddenly Highwire slid towards MoonShadow attempting to stop her charge, but the latter quickly passed the ball to her cousin before Highwire could kick the ball away. Reaper received the ball, but was blocked by Kevin. Grinning, he quickly did some fancy footwork, then with a quick spin blew past Kevin towards the goal. Dark Yoshi followed the action intently, preparing for the shot. As Reaper slowed down to presumably shoot the ball, Dark Yoshi noticed MoonShadow out of the corner of his eye and realized that he was being tricked. With incredibly agility, he dived to the other side of the goal as Reaper passed the ball to MoonShadow, who instantly launched it at the goal and Dark Yoshi. "Argh!" he cried as the ball slammed him in the face, then bounced harmlessly behind the goal.

"Well," said Highwire chuckling. "That's certainly one way to block a ball."

Everybody started laughing except for Dark Yoshi, who merely groaned. Slowly he stood up and said, "That was a cheap shot."

"Oh, come on." MoonShadow winked. "You're just mad cause you got beat down by a girl."

Highwire shook his head playfully. "Shame on you, Dark, you sexist, you." He said with a laugh, helping Dark Yoshi up.

The crew started again, with MoonShadow kicking again. This time, however, her aim was off, and the ball went outside of the makeshift soccer field and into the makeshift park.

"Oops." was all MoonShadow needed to say.

"I'll get it." Highwire called, running out into the park. Dark Yoshi followed.

As they were to find out, MoonShadow had kicked it quite a way. It had rolled into the memorial section of the park, where the empty graves lay of the former moderators and level moderators, as well as the former leader Runouw. The area was most likely the most beautiful section of the park, with a dead transplanted tree with no leaves, 6 solid stone graves and a cobblestone walkway, as well as the greenest astroturf the remnants of Runouw could smuggle in from their escape. It caused them to stop in awe and respect, and to forget why they were there.

"Well, what brings you here?" A voice broke their thoughts.

Both Dark Yoshi and Highwire whirled around in a shock. Standing behind them was Elder Mic, in normal clothes in contrast to the other elders, who wore robes that made them look like Gandalf, as Mic liked to tease. They sighed with relief, not sure what to expect in this graveyard.

"Beautiful place, isn't it?" Mic said with a sad smile. "I remember all these users very well."

The teens nodded. "Can you tell us about the moderators, Elder Mic?"

Mic nodded, looked at the first grave and sad "MessengerOfDreams. That guy had such a heart. He put everything he had into the city, and his job. I will admit he was a bit uptight, but that was only because he worked so hard.

"There was Kirby_999, too. I used to enjoy making fun of his music taste. He had the music taste of a 13-year old girl. But he was relaxed, a ton of fun to be around, especially when he got a bit crazy.

"Shade had the wackiest sense of humor. I was starting to think he was Bi-Polar. He went from Serious to loose in a flash. He liked to proclaim himself crazy. But I think he was the smartest of us all.

"Blablob was like the big brother of the group. He kept us all in line, and at times it got a bit annoying. But it was only because he cared about us and his people, and we wouldn't have been the same without him. Plus, he had some killer ideas.

"Fourinone had the best sense of humor. He always wore a t-shirt with the coolest-looking smiley on it, he was friendly, casual, and took nothing seriously, even jailing members from the city was done in a nice and lighthearted manner. He knew exactly how to make us all smile.

"Runouw, I didn't know much about. He rarely ever talked. But his creations were amazing. He built the whole city from scratch with his city-maker. It's a shame it was taken advantage of.

"Yessir, we had some great members. We still do, but they... they were just something else. That's why they go their jobs." Mic finished with a small frown, saddened by the memories.

Dark Yoshi and Highwire both stared at the graves in wonder. These moderators were normal people, just like Mic and, well, everyone else. It was refreshing to know that everyone had a soul, even the dead.

"Oh, and by the way," Mic said, "Here's your soccer ball. Your friends must be missing you." He tossed the ball to Dark Yoshi, who caught it.

"Have a great day, Elder Mic!" Highwire called as they both ran back to the field.

"You first!" Mic said, smiling again.

"What took you so long?" Venexis asked as they got back.

"Oh, just a history lesson." Dark Yoshi replied.

Both Dark Yoshi and Highwire chuckled over the memory.

"You two, in the front! You're up," General Avolerators called, prompting them both to step up.

"State your name." he said to Dark Yoshi.

"Dark Yoshi." he replied.

"What is your best skill?" Avo continued.

"Athletics, sir."

"And your age?"

"14, sir."

"And why did you join us today?"

"For Mic, sir."

Avo nodded and turned to Highwire. "What's your name, son?"

"Highwire, sir." Highwire replied.

"And your best skill?"

"Optimism, sir."

Avo gave Highwire a sideways glance and continued. "Your age?"

"15, sir." Highwire responded.

"And why did you join?"

"Because awhile back, I got an amazing history lesson. I'm going to work to become part of that."

Avo nodded and said, "Congratulations, boys. You're now part of the Revolution."

Anyway, this continues to be excellent. Grammar was occasionally spotty in places, but I'll let it slide. ;) Other than that, no complaints.

Re: Legacy

Postby MessengerOfDreams » October 4th, 2010, 10:48 am

Parawar3 had a habit of never walking. She just couldn't seem to get herself to walk slow enough to seem normal. Every stride she took looked like it belonged in a music video for Chairots of Fire. Even in the grocery store she seemed to run as if she was in a panic, even though she wasn't.

She simply loved to run. Knowing that humans on their own couldn't fly, she believed that running was the second best thing. And she couldn't stop herself from doing so, just as bats couldn't go much anywhere without flying, she couldn't go anywhere without running. It was natural, it was freedom.

But at the moment, she was sitting in her finest piece of furniture, a metal fold-up chair in her home, staring at the wall, tears dropping silently from her eyes. She knew everyone was devastated from Marioiscool's death, but she knew for a fact that she had more reason to be affected by his death.

Parawar3 had barely moved into Runouw's City when the spammers were released and she evacuated to the caves. The bits and pieces of Runouw life she knew weren't very glorious either. She had tried to create a building with Runouw's city maker and it turned out as a slum, far from what she wanted. She personally destroyed it herself in a fit of anger with a hammer, horrified at her creation. She vowed never to make another building.

Her life seemed to improve when she entered the caves. People who didn't know each other before now were great friends, and the pieces of the city who survived formed a tight community. She felt at home there.

Her life especially changed when she joined the local army. She was hesitant at first, seeing as the cause was to go back to their home city and reclaim it, and she wasn't particularly fond of it. But eventually, she told herself that she couldn't give up on trying to find home in a real city. These caves were what she really knew most, but what made it home was not the stalagmites and flourescent lights that made it similar to the City of Ember.

Elder Mic was the only one of the 3 elders who took the risk to fight in battles with his people. Not as a general, not as a commander, but merely as a solider. He fought side by side with his people. Parawar3 was usually placed side by side with him, because they created a team to be feared. Mic had the know how of a former city moderator, who destroyed slum buildings and fought against slummers, and Parawar3 had the stamina of 5 strong people. They weren't Elder and Peasant, they were best friends.

Sighing, she remembered their finest moment.

She stood in front of the old spam gate, now used to block its former residents; Mic stood right beside her. A confident smile on his face, a nervous frown on hers.

It had been 6 months since the city was taken over, 18 months ago to the present day. And these two were sent on a mission, a mission only the two of them could perform. It would make it possible to really be able to reclaim their city, not just fight outside of the city walls.

They were going to destroy a gate entry to the city. When that was done, the armies could make a good, solid start by by entering the city and dismantling the armies by their core, or maybe pulling an Advance Wars and stomp the 20hp out of the HQ of the armies.

Marioiscool grinned even wider and said "Well, ready when you are."

Parawar3 laughed nervously and said "If you did that, we'd never get in there."

Marioiscool's smile shifted from cocky to comforting. "Hey, don't give it too much thought. We pop in, do our job, pop out and become heroes! I mean, I feel like I'm getting a steal out of this deal."

Para chuckled a bit. "Cause the last thing you need is more fame."

Mic laughed and said "Subject change- we need a plan. And I got an idea for one."

Para smiled and said "I'm all ears."

5 minutes later, Mic and Para sat outside the gate, just behind a wall, waiting for a spambot to open it. They kept their eyes peeled for 5 minutes... then 10...then 30.

Mic sighed and pulled out a deck of playing cards. "Blackjack, Parawar?"

Parawar's eyes bugged. "You brought playing cards... to a war battle?"

Mic laughed quietly. "Of course. It gets boring as hell out here in hell. You gotta have something to do."

"This is war, Mic!" Para hissed. "You don't bring playing cards to war! It's like bringing an Xbox to the Holocaust!"

Mic smirked. "I think they really could have used something to do there. Then again, I'm a Jew, so-" His thoughts were interrupted when Parawar reached her hand up to smack him. He caught it midway, and held it politely.

"Parawar, let me tell you from experience, war is hell. People die from it everyday, everywhere, and it can ruin your life." Mic said, stone cold serious. "My brother G.G. was in a war in other parts of the world once, and when he came back, he was never the same, despite not having a scratch on his body. He was frightened of everything, from our cat to my mother dropping a spoon. He never talked, never smiled, and eventually he died when he ran away from the house into the path of a car, all because a candle was blown out.
A goddamn candle, Parawar. I was only 12 years old when he died."

"My brother was shell shocked to death, Para." he said, looking at her in the eyes. "And I'm gonna make damn sure it doesn't happen to me. Or you." His face lightened up a bit as he said "Now, Blackjack or Poker?"

Parawar smiled and said, "I'm actually rather partial to-"

She was interrupted by the sound of the gate opening. Mic quickly tried to gather up his playing cards as Parawar kicked the humanoid robot that exited the gate backwards. It slid directly under the gate, its thick metal armor keeping the gate open. Parawar crawled under the gate.

"Come on, Mic!" she hissed.

"My cards!" he frowned.

"Forget the stupid cards!" she hissed. Mic rolled his eyes when suddenly the spambot started to crack. Gasping, he threw the cards he had collected down and slid under the gate, just before it closed on the bot. Parawar couldn't help but compare that to an action movie cliche.

Mic gave Para a wan grin and said "You owe me a new deck of trading cards." He grinned when she growled at him.

They crept through the city, Para finding it hard not to run through it, barely able to see because of the darkness. "What are we looking for exactly?" Para asked.

"You know how our dear departed Superyoshi accidentally let our villains in?" Mic asked.

Para nodded. "Very vaguely."

"That's how we're gonna get in. Look for the control tower."

"I need a light." Para said.

"Well, I don't smoke, so-" Mic replied.

"I mean to see." she corrected him.

"Oh, well, I got a lighter that will do the trick that I carry just for situations like this." Mic replied, getting out a simple Bic Lighter. He flicked it on and the area filled up with a dim light. Para smiled and looked at the building in front of her.

What she saw disgusted her. A building with a nude lady plastered on a poster on the front of the building. Para had a disturbing feeling about what they sold there. She spat at it, and quickly turned to another corner.

She saw a building, this one halfway constructed, that had a sign saying "Get your credit score improved at this building! Opening in 1 month!" She growled and saw a familiar building down the street.

Her old home. She had lived there for about a month and obviously bought it herself instead of creating it, but had it decorated the same way her mother and grandmother had done theirs. It was a generation thing.

It had a sign on it saying "Selling Viagra here" and a picture of a motocross cycle on it. Para held in the urge to scream as she realized she was in her old neighborhood.

"Mic" she hissed. "Look what they've done!"

He took a quick survey of his surroundings. "It's bad, I have to say... but nothing short of what I expected."

Para couldn't help but agree. "Where's the control tower?"

Mic pointed left and up to the sky. "Right over that-a-way."

Para glanced at the tower, which looked like an Airport tower. "Now how do we get there?" she asked.

Mic grinned again. "We play Spider-Man." he said, finding a tall building with a ladder. Upon finding one in sight, he said "You see that ladder there?"

Para nodded. "That's an old fire escape, isn't it?"

Mic nodded. "Exactly." as he started to climb it. Parawar followed, smiling. This sounded like Parkour. This was her thing.

She was the first to the top. Taking a running start, she jumped over the street, landing on another building of a shorter height. Mic followed, clipping the building's edge but otherwise doing fine. There were 3 more buildings to jump to get to the Control Tower. The first was a lot taller than the building they were on.

"What do we do?" Mic rarely asked that of Parawar, he being the strategist of the group, but she knew more about this stuff than he did.

Parawar demonstrated by jumping towards the next building's fire escape ladder, grabbing a ladder step and climbing up immediately afterward. Mic gulped, started to run and then jumped off of the building.

Immediately he knew it was too short as he fell towards the ground in a spiral. Para gasped as he hit the bottom.

Luckily, or at least in this circumstance, he fell into a garbage can, the full bags cushioning his fall. He climbed out and up the ladder, garbage in his clothes and hair. He met Para at the top, already with a sarcastic one-liner prepared. "Cause we all know why Robots need garbage cans."

Para chuckled, and jumped over to the next building, immediately adjacent to the next one at the same height. Mic found this easy and followed.

Para took a look at the last one and said "This last one's gonna be a doozy." She pointed to the building that was 4 feet higher than the one they were on, 10 feet away, and had no ladder. "We're going to have to really work to clear this one."

Mic suddenly grinned. "I have a plan." he said.

"What's it this time?" Para asked.

"We hold hands jumping to the other building." he elaborated. "Naturally, I lag behind, and you go forward. Then, you throw me ahead with your massive strength, I make it to the building, and you have enough momentum left to make it yourself... or at least I hope."

"That doesn't sound too good." Para gulped.

"It's our only option." Mic said.

Para backed up to the back of the building, Mic following. Their hands grappled each other with a deathgrip and they jumped. As Mic predicted, he wasn't as far ahead as Para was until she jerked her arm forward, launching him onto the building. She floated effortlessly through the air and grabbed the edge of her building, pulling herself up.

The entry of the control power lay past a skybridge that connected the Control Tower to their building. They stalked across it and saw the door had a password lock on it.

"What do you think the password is?" Mic asked.

Parawar stepped back and said "I think it's something along the lines of 'Victory for the Revolution!'" she said as she kicked the door off its hinges.

"That was extremely cheesy." Mic smirked.

"Stuff it."

A slummer lay asleep inside of the tower in a chair. "Employee of the Month." Mic guessed. "I'm surprised we didn't wake him up."

Parawar stalked in, Mic following. "Which button will do the trick?" Para asked.

Mic looked around at all the buttons and said "I dunno, that one?" as he pointed to the large green one.

Parawar pressed it and, oddly enough, windshield wipers popped up on the Control tower windows and started to wash them.

Mic's expression read of amusement and surprise. "Uhm... the blue one!" he guessed.

Parawar pressed that one, and to her horror, a siren sounded off. "Oh ♥♥♥♥!" she hissed as she pressed it off.

Mic smacked his forehead.

"Nice going, O wise one." Para said, angry.

"Hey, leave the sarcasm to me." Mic snapped.

"Who said that?" The slummer woke up, just now aware of their presence. Para gasped as she took the slummer's chair out from underneath him and bashed him over the head with it.

The slummer felt no pain as he got up and threw Mic against the wall. Mic was disoriented but otherwise uninjured. Parawar grabbed the slummer, picked him up and threw him outside the window. A window wiper hit his neck and gave him a lethal cut.

Parawar looked at the 25 buttons, and saw one that said "Gate control" right above it. She glared at Mic, who returned with a sheepish grin as she pressed the button.

The gate started to rise slowly to the top, and Mic looked out the window. "Spambots!" he hissed, seeing them go down the street towards the Tower. Parawar watched nervously as the gate opened slowly. Finally, she had enough. She punched the button as hard as she could. It broke and the gate fell off of its strong hinges and onto the street. Most of the spambots were crushed by it.

Mic and Para jumped out of the building, making careful sure to stop the windshield wipers, and landed on the ground. 2 spambots remained, both 7 feet tall and intimidating in appearance. Para kicked one across the street into a building, and Mic ran swiftly around to the back of the bot and kicked the power source, the equivalent to a human heart on the back of the neck of a spambot, and knocked it down.

Wasting no time, the duo ran out of the gate, miles and miles over empty fields until they got to what they hoped was far enough away. The sun had just started to rise above them, but home was still another 10 miles away and they were dead tired, feeling exhausted yet victorious.

"We... we did.. we did it!" Mic gasped happily as he stopped running and took shelter under a large lone tree.

Parawar plopped down beside him and said "That was awesome, Mic! I still can't believe it!"

"Like the part where you threw me over the building?" Mic grinned.

Para nodded. "Let's rehash this later. I'm dead tired."

Mic himself nodded. "Agreed." Almost instantly afterward, he was fast asleep.

Para smiled and watched the sunrise slowly warm up the area as she too drifted into sleep.

She suddenly snapped back into the real world, realizing that she had fallen asleep. She shook it off, fighting off the urge to cry, and opened her door. She then started to run.

And she just ran. From her house to the entrance of the caves to the Elder's hall at the other end. It all seemed so far away, the good times. But all she wanted to do now was run across the bumpy rocks of the cave.

Suddenly, she was stopped by Commander Ace. Or rather, she ran into him, knocking him and his groceries down. He shook it off, laughed and said "Parawar! Just the woman I wanted to see!"

"Sorry, sir." she said, helping him up. "I'll pay for that."

"No need, no need." Ace said, smiling. "I wanted to pass off some news."

Para looked up from the groceries. "And what would that be?"

Ace looked at her with a grin and then said "With the Revolution's size nearly doubling, you, my talented soldier, have just been promoted to the second General of the Army."
