Here's the start of a story that I'm writing, This is the Prologue and the first chapter but I plan on continuing on updating it. Anyways here it is

Odin Lockwood (Name subject to change)

 Prologue

Excerpt from Odins journal

My name is Odin Lockwood and this is my story. But before we get into that, all of what you are about to read is entirely true. You may be thinking "wow I wish something like that would happen to me!". No you really don't, these worlds are a dangerous place and most of you just don't realize. Those people hiding behind metal doors, in basements or wearing tinfoil hats claiming the government is after them are the lucky ones. They might not have realized that earth is a dangerous place filled with government conspiracies that go back to the age of the dinosaurs. But they got a better idea than the rest of us living our lives blissfully ignorant of all that was going on behind our backs. Even the slightest awareness of what the government is really behind the whole we work for the people facade could open up a whole new world of possibilities, literally. A side of the law you don't want to know about or have any part of, the truth behind Area 51 and UFO sighting. A world that I got dragged into without any warning.

My name is Odin, Odin Lockwood, named after the Norse king of the gods. Doesn't really suit me though, never has. I don't think anyone would describe a scrawny, brown haired, average human male godly or king of the gods material. Loki, god of trickery would have suited me better, but that's the thing with names they're thrust upon us without our consent or acceptance of them. Besides my name I'm an entirely normal high schooler, abiding the law and not getting tangled up in government conspiracies. Guess I lost all of that. All of it except the name, funny thing about names their hard to get rid of.

It all started  august 8th, the second month of summer break  and some pretty strange stuff was happening in our neighbourhood. I'm talking about  alien like sound at night, lights that seem to move and of course the constant government  presence. Upon arriving a few days they said they were here to check abnormal gas levels but nobody bought that. Since when do government officials in suits check gas levels, but I was more than happy to mind my own business unlike my friend. Matt, he arrived knocking on my door one day.

Chapter 1

"I'm gonna go see what's up with the government people" he exclaimed with a huge grin "want to come with". Odin scowled and gave him the stare down before replying
"you want me.. to go spy on government officials."
"Oh, c'mon! Plus  do you really think we'll get caught, I found an excellent spot to hide within earshot"
Odin sighed, he knew Matt well enough to know that someone had to make sure he didn't do something stupid. "Ok, let me grab some stuff" he practically sighed
Closing the door he walked up down the hallway decorated with picture of his childhood and up the stairs, which was adorned in a similar fashion. As an only child Odin was the only one to have pictures taken and hung of him, besides his parent. He received plenty of attention from both of his parent, too much if you asked him, being an only child meant that he was the one his parents were always toting on. They had good intentions they just tried to hard for his taste. He turned a right through a narrow doorway and entered his room, comic books litter his shelves among other things. But he had come here for one thing specifically a backpack he had put together especially for times when Matt came up with a new crazy adventure. Filled with anything from a flashlight among various other things he packed after their other adventures, rope, clean clothes, sunscreen, a magnifying glass and countless other trinkets. he was always prepared when Matt's adventures took longer than expected or took a turn for the worse, like the time they got stuck in the cave, he always packed extra batteries now, wandering around a dark cave isn’t a good bonding experience. He picked up the bag and swung it over his shoulder, taking one last look at his room, his bed, his computer. His dog, that if not asleep would have be looking at him with his sad eyes begging him not to go. He could just not go, but who know what kind of trouble Matt would get into, plus what kind of friend would he be if he didn’t help. He rushed out of his room and hurried down the stairs and through the hallway he couldn’t keep Matt waiting, last time he did Matt ran off without him and nearly got arrested. Opening the door he wasn't surprised to see Matt looking like he was ready to go by himself. "What took you so long, I was about to go without you"
“You know how I like to be prepared for your little 'adventures'."
"Yea, I know you've saved my butt more time than I can count with that pack of yours" Matt paused " c'mon someone will have taken our front row seat if we don't hurry."
With that Matt slowly turned and began walking with Odin not far behind.

Turns out when Matt says front row seats he means it. They rushed down to where the officials usually hung around. An old baseball stadium, Once it was the main stadium for baseball in town, until the town got a sponsorship to build a new one. At one point this arena was a sight to behold, best stadium you could get at the time, but those days are long gone. The light once shining are now dark save for a few sparks of electricity here and there. The field once trimmed to perfection is now left to grow long and ragged like a beard left uncut. The stadium that once held hundreds of people, now in shambles. The only action the stadium see now is the occasional unofficial game and the younger kids playing hide and go seek despite their parents warnings. Odin and Matt crouched in the busted front row seat watching the government agents mill about like the fireflies that occupy this stadium now. They seemed to be searching for something, waving strange devices around, muttering under their breath and generally looking suspicious. Odin and Matt remained Crouched down, squished behind the front rows for a better half of the evening, Watching the the grass sway gently in the breeze, Gazing at the fireflies as they swirl through the air like leaves. Most of all they watched the agents Pace across the field muttering things like “This has to be the spot” or “These reading are off the charts, It’ll happen soon”. The sun had dropped out of the sky and onto the horizon by the time anything happened. It started with the shouting.
“It’s starting! The reading just rose to an all new high” Shouted the agent who Matt had named Jeff. Matt turned to face Odin his eyes betraying a level of excitement that faces just can’t show. He leaned forward readying himself for whatever was about to happen, looking as if he might jump out his hiding place if it wasn’t for Odin's hand on his shoulder. This is the reason Odin knew Matt couldn’t go alone.
“Our intel was right then, I was unsure when we got here… but after these readings this has to be the place.” Replied the agent who had been named Aaron.
“Our intel is reliable, the real question is what’s going to appear, There isn’t that much around here beside grass and dirt, Maybe it will be an ent of some kind? Hold on, I’m getting another spike in the readings!” Jeff exclaimed. Odin’s hair begin to stand on end as the air was filled with electricity, causing Odin and a few of the agents to collapse from the shock that followed. Electricity began to snake along the old light and score board, Quickly spreading across the rest of the stadium through the railing. Almost like a heartbeat the electricity seem to pulse, spreading out across the stadium before retreating back. Slowly the rhythm sped up, The hum of electricity increasing. The pulsing continued like this until it was almost unnoticeable, The stadium writhed with electricity as it danced across the railing and anything metal it could find. With a blinding flash the electricity arced through the air, sinking its fangs into the fireflies as it shot through the slithered across the sky. The fireflies dropped from the sky, twitching as they hit the ground.
“What just happened?! The electricity just…”  Matt started
Whatever Matt was saying died on his lips as he saw the swarm of recently struck fireflies begin to writhe on the ground as their forms twisted and changed. Their form began to swell up as if being pumped full of air, Bulging unnaturally their forms grew to nearly twice  their size. Electricity crackled along the surface of their bodies and wings, as they continued to grow. Now nearly 10 time their original size their wings began to buzz, electricity covering their bodies the more they flap their wings until their bodies are completely covered. Now buzzing forms of pure electricity, they began to fly around sending off sparks of electricity and arcs of lightning whenever they got close to anything conductive.
“Lightning bugs, initiate protocol A-15, bring them down!” Jeff bellowed as he procured a large wide-barreled gun and loaded a large cylindrical package into the nozzle, It reminded Odin of a T-shirt cannon. Taking aim Jeff began to point at the swarms of electricity flowing around before firing the gun with a faint click from the trigger. The package flew out of the barrel before bursting open to reveal a net made of some kind of metal, The net flew straight and true, ensnaring the group of lightning bugs and sending them flying into the ground. The electricity began to fade from their bodies as their wings stop beating and the current leading the electricity back to earth.
“Not so powerful without your electricity are you? Time to send you to where you belong.” Jeff continues as he pulls out what looks to be a rocket launcher from the bag hanging from his back.
“He’s going to kill them, We have to do something!” Exclaimed Odin, He couldn’t let them no matter how bizarre everything seemed.
“If we interfere we’ll be the one that end up dead,” Jeff replied “I shouldn’t have to warn you about this”
“Ok,” Odin says reluctantly before turning back to see the launcher doing what appeared to be charging up, pointed at the lightning bugs, their eyes betraying their terror and sadness. Turning again to see Matt beginning to sneak away, before turning one last time as he began to dash of towards the captive insects, Inhuman or not he couldn’t doom them to die.
“I’m glad you saw some sense in my words, Let’s get away…,”  Jeff began before noticing Odin running of towards the captive insects and jumping between the Agent and the net as the launcher released an orb of swirling darkness. Time seemed to slow as the orb flew towards Odin leaving a trail of darkness behind it, an absence of light that didn’t disappear. As the orb struck Odin's chest it seemed to disappear into the very darkness it left behind. Odin's eyes widened as he felt a sensation of pure cold before his body went numb and fell to the ground limp. A sheet of darkness began to spread across his body like saran wrap starting from the point where the orb had struck. Slowly the darkness spread covering his chest, his forearms and upper legs before stopping, Odin could no longer feel where the darkness had spread, before it had felt like his body was there just distant, Now it felt like there was nothing there, a void in his chest. The lightning bugs began to struggle in the net in an attempt to free themselves, The smallest made it out first as it made its way over Odin’s limp body. Stopping when it reached his chest, putting itself protectively in front Odin. Jeff’s face changed to show a flicker of surprise before taking on the usual grave look again as he began to charge the launcher once again
“I didn’t want to have to do this but, you know too much,” voiced Jeff “It’s a shame the first blast wasn’t enough to do you in, I hate having to look the victims in the eyes as I do this,”. The last thing Odin saw  was Matt screaming as he ran towards Odin in a futile attempt to save him. Then the Darkness consumed him and his every thought as him and the lightning bug disappeared.

Darkness. Void. Emptiness. Those thoughts consumed and occupied it’s every thought as it floated through the void that it had come to know so well. It wasn’t sure how long it had been here or how far it had even floated. They only thing it was sure of  was the fact that it was unsure, it tried to recall his name, who it was, what it was, any detail about what it might or might have been. No matter how hard it tried the only thing it knew was the darkness and it’s own obscurity, it knew there was something it should know by the nagging at the back of its head, but it was just out of reach. The nagging had been with it for the entire time it had been here growing stronger and demanding more attention the longer he floated, but now it had grown to a constant annoyance disrupting the few thought he had. It clutched it head in pain as the nagging grew to a pain, It began to scream as the pain grew stronger, feeling as if its head might explode it curled up into the fetal position. Failing to notice the growing light that it was floating towards as the pain grew more painful, now screaming for attention. As it passed through the light, the pain burst forth from his head bring the nagging to the front of his mind as it collapsed upon the first hard surface it had felt in what seemed like centuries. Finally with that nagging brought forward he remember. The one thing that stuck through that experience. His name. Odin Lockwood.
