The moment you guys have been waiting for.....
CHAPTER 5
It was just a little vent on the roof, about 3 feet wide, 3 feet long; whatever that makes the cirumference.
We had a way out.
Can you imagine the feeling of knowing you're going to die, sealed in a room with nothing to do, other than watch old, boring VHS movies? And then, after what seems like an eternity, you find an exit, or in other words: hope?
Yeah. That's what we had. Hope.
I let Alex go first. I put my hands up, so he could get on top of me and break the vent open, or if possible, just unlock it. Alex punched the vent, and dust fell from it; some of it got into my eyes, so I had to set Alex down so I could rub them. "If you can, just unlock it" I told Alex.
"You know what? You can do it." He said in that I-get-what-I-want voice; I really hated when he did that.
"But you can't lift me. I'm too heavy."
"Oh yeah? Try it."
So, that's what I did, and before I was even fully on him, he crumbled to the ground.
"Dude, you're freakin' fat" He blurted. It wasn't true; I am perfect weight for my age.
So he got back on me, and punched the vent some more, which caused him to wobble a little, making it harder to hold him in place; not to mention the dust that kept going in my eyes.
Alex punched it one last time, and it just broke open. And then I heard someone. "What was that?" I heard Billy-boy say.
Suddenly the door swung open, and there he was, with a loaded shotgun. "I told ya I was gonna have to use this if ya'lls just ran away like that. Say hello to ma father, would'ja boys? IN HELL!"
When he said that, he pulled the trigger, and shot....not me....not Alex. Not anything...except Dagger.
Dagger screeched in terror as he lay on the ground, covering his wound up with the floor. I wasn't sure if a bear could take the bullet of a shotgun, but I knew one thing: we weren't dying without a fight.
Alex, waiting for me to do something, just stood there. He had no emotion on his face. But I wasn't worried about that, now. I secretly grabbed a book with my hand, while looking straight at Billy-Boy.
"Now, since I'm so generous, I'm gonna give you guys 10 seconds each to say your last words. Bryan?"
"Yeah, about that: are you good at reacting?"
"Am I wh__"
As soon as he started the sentence, I threw the book at his face, knocking him down. He dropped the shotgun by his feet. But he almost got back up; I doubt a book would stop him.
Quickly, I ran over and grabbed the shotgun, but Billy-Boy had grabbed the other end of it. We were playing tug of war. Only with a few additions: if he wins, I die, and if I win, we live.
I grabbed and grabbed but it did no good. I wasn't going to win. I was going to die, and it would be over just like that.
He almost had full grip of the gun, and said "See ya'll in hell."
BANG! A knock to the head with a VHS player. It was Alex. I nodded at him to go on, because he still had the grip on the gun.
As he banged him, he kept yelling out "YOU DON'TMESS WITH MY BROTHER! NOBODY MESSES WITH MY BROTHER! EXCEPT ME!
With that final yell, he smashed the entire VHS on his head. Billy-Boy was bleeding, and knocked out. I grabbed the gun, and we made our move.
We climbed through the vent outside, though why we did it, I'm not sure; we had a gun. We just kept running and running. I threw the gun on the ground to gain speed, and Alex was right beside me.
We just ran for the next half-mile to the nearest police station.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When we got to the police station, we just burst inside. Cops were all ready hurrying our way to see what we were so excited about.
But we weren't excited at all.
The cop asked us "What happened to you boys?"
"We were kidnapped."
The cop had the most serious face I'd ever seen when I said that. He asked "By who?"
"Two guys, one that runs a 7-11, and the other one is my neighbor."
"The 7-11 on Dorian Drive?"
"Yeah."
"And where does this other guy live?"
"Right across the street from the 7-11. 64 2nd street."
Immediately he whipped out his walkie-talkie and began talking into it; I couldn't understand what he was saying, but I figured he was getting ready to go down to the 7-11.
About 20 cop cars drove out of nowhere and headed down to the 7-11.
Suddenly, a man in a black coat came up to us. "Will you boys please come with me?"
Me and Alex stared at eachother for a tense second. "Sure." I said.
We followed him past a ton of offices, full of papers, computers; the usual stuff you would see. We went down a long hallway to the very last room, with 4 chairs and a desk. He held his hand out to the chairs, signaling for us to sit down.
"You boys are Bryan and Alex, right?" He said as he sat behind his desk.
"Um..yeah, how do you know?"
"That isn't important right now."
We just sat there for a minute.
"Listen...I don't know how to break this to you boys, after hearing what happened to you today. Your mother...she was killed in a murder, earlier today."
......................................Wow......................WOW.............She was..........gone...................How...............................She is...........just.............gone.............just like that.
As you could tell, I was at a loss for words. And I didn't know how to react. I fought back the tears, but I could barely budge. Meanwhile Alex had his hand on his face as he cried in silence; just like he had this morning.
"Do you know who killed them."
"Yes, but, we have yet to catch him."
"Who?"
Well, he.......jeez, you boys aren't gonna like what you hear, but........the killer...is your FATHER!"
Ok, THAT'S when the tears started coming.
Nonetheless, I kept talking to him.
"Why, though? Why would he do that?"
"Son, we are as clueless as you are."
"Well that's the thing. I'm not clueless. This morning was when they started to argue, then I heard a loud scream, and then they took off."
"What was the argument about?"
"Well, I don't know."
"How can you not__"
"I just wasn't there to hear it."
We sat there for another few minutes, until the guy made up his mind.
"Alright, well I guess I have no choice but to put you boys in a foster home."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, that's my story.
That should clear up any questions you have about why I hate my life. Because what happened; it scarred me forever. I wasn't the first to be kidnapped, but it was just.......well, I can't explain it. It's unexplainable unless it's happened to you.
My foster home was worse than my real home. There were about 10 kids--excluding me--and they were all loud, obnoxtious, and they were all around 5 years old, so they just wouldn't leave me alone.
They had no computer, either. Goodbye, Runouw.com, I thought. I will miss you.
All they had to do for entertainment was watch T.V, and there were only 2 of them, so there was a lot of fighting over who got to watch what they want.
And the parents, they were worse than the kids. They were very strict; do homework as soon as you come home, even on weekends. No TV until 6:00. No yelling in the house, no candy, no gum, no soda, this and that; etc. etc.
But the one thing I'll never forget when they moved me to a foster home....was when they seperated me and Alex. It broke my heart to be away from him; I loved him, and I would've been able to stand all this if he were here. But I can't. How could they be so cruel as to send him to a foster home on the other side of the state? They said that it was because this home was full. Yeah, big deal.
They took away everything from me. My family, school, friends, fun; EVERYTHING! But my brother.....that was going to far.
Later than night, when everyone was sleeping, I packed my things. I opened the window, about to leave, when Josh--one of the more friendly kids--woke up.
"What are you doing?"
"Shh" I told him.
He whispered "What are you doing?"
I told him "I'm leaving. Forever."
"Why?"
"Because there's someone I need to see. Someone who needs me. And I need him as well. And when I find him, we'll figure out something."
"Okay, be careful."
"Thanks."
"Your welcome. By the way, I won't tell nobody."
"It's okay, they'll figure it out anyway. Besides, you don't know where I'm going."
"Okay, well, see ya."
Then I hopped out the window, and went to find my brother.
The End
