Prologue: show
It was a beautiful December morning. I was awakened by the noise of the wind shaking the trees that surrounded my house. I rolled over and looked at my alarm clock. "7:30 AM," I mumbled to myself. Usually, I don't wake up until about 9, but for some reason, I wanted to get up, so I got out of bed, changed clothes, and sleepily stumbled into the kitchen, looking for something to eat. The only thing I had was eggs, but I was horrible at cooking eggs. My mom cooks them very well, but she and Dad were on a Christmas vacation.
Why didn't they bring me along? That's what I'd like to know. They said they needed some alone time together, and left me to care for myself.
Oh well, I thought to myself. I decided to go to the nearby Waffle House and get something to eat, so I grabbed my jacket and walked out the door. I reached into my jacket pocket and produced the keys to Dad's Toyota Tacoma, which he said I could drive if I needed to. And don't worry; I have my driver's license. Anyway, I was reaching for the handle when I saw someone jogging up my driveway towards me.
Even with my glasses, I wasn't sure who it was. I could tell it was a girl, but that's about it. I pulled my hand back and walked toward the girl. Once I got closer, I knew exactly who she was.
Her name was Anna, and she lived a few houses down from me. Her silky brown hair was put up into a ponytail, and her blue eyes glistened in the sun. Great, I thought, I'm about to go get breakfast, and she's coming to see me. Great timing.
"Hey, Matt!" Anna called, waving. "Hey Anna," I replied, waving back. "What's up?" she asked, coming to a stop right in front of me. "Oh, I was just going to head to get some breakfast," I said. "That's cool," Anna replied.
"So... what's up with you?" I asked, hesitating a little. "What? Can't your girl come visit you once in a while?" she asked. "Well, yeah, of course," I replied nervously. "Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I ordered your Christmas present, and it should be here tomorrow," she said. "Great," I answered.
"Well, I better be going. I guess I'll see you later then," Anna said. "Yeah, later," I responded. She flashed a cute smile at me, and started jogging back to her house. "Well, at least now I can get some breakfast," I said to myself. I got into Dad's truck and headed to the Waffle House. After finishing my breakfast, I came back home. "Hmm... I wonder what else I want to do today?" I asked myself.
Throughout the rest of the day, nothing very eventful happened. I basically just tidied the house up, played some video games, surfed the Web, and did some other random things that spontaneously came to mind. Afterwards, I got into bed, wondering what kind of present Anna had dreamed up this year.

On the first day of Christmas...: show
The next morning, I awoke by the ringing of my doorbell. I got out of bed, stretched, and went to the door. Guess who was standing outside my door?
That's right; Anna. She was waiting at the door, holding something that was covered with a blanket. I opened the door, and showed her in. "Hello Anna," I said, "What brings you here today?" "I'm delivering your present," Anna replied. I raised an eyebrow in confusion and surprise. Anna stepped back outside, but then came back in, holding a medium-sized plant.
"What is that?" I asked. "It's a small pear tree," she answered. Suddenly, an old Christmas song popped into my mind: The Twelve Days of Christmas. The first gift was a...
"And here is a partridge," Anna said, lifting the blanket off the other thing. It turned out to be a small cage, and inside it was, sure enough, a partridge. "A partridge in a pear tree," I said to myself. "Right," Anna replied, nodding at me.
I didn't think it was a coincidence that she had brought me both of those; I think it was on purpose. Only, I hope she doesn't bring me all twelve gifts of Christmas; I couldn't handle all that alone!
"I'll be seeing you," Anna said, and she left. I opened the partridge's cage, and it flew up onto my shoulder, chirping happily. I reached up and petted it, and it chirped contently. Then, it flew off my shoulder and onto the pear tree, where it started eating the pears that were growing on it. "Maybe she only wanted to give me the first gift," I said to myself. "I mean, she did say present, not presents."
A while passed in peace. I played with the partridge a little, played some games, and was lying on the couch when the partridge started flying around and chirping crazily. "Hey, calm down! What's with you?!" I said, leaping off the couch. I ran around the room trying to catch the bird, knocking stuff over in the process.
Eventually I got tired and sat down to catch my breath. I suddenly felt something hit my head, and looked up to see the partridge hovering above me. "Oh, you didn't just..." I ran to a mirror. I came back into the room, fists clenched. "You ♥♥♥♥ on my head, you stupid bird! C'mere!" I said angrily. I again proceeded to chase the bird around the room. This time, I caught it.
I went over to the door, opened it, and threw the partridge out the door. I then closed the door behind me, and went to go take a shower. Afterwards, I went to bed, since it was getting late and I was tired from running around trying to catch the partridge.
