Hey guys, this story will be narrated through the characters eyes, and every once in a while there will be some kind of re-cap made by a narrator. This is my first story, so no hateful comments please?Criticism is welcome, as long as it isn't blatant, un-helpful criticism.
Prologue: show

Chapter 1 - The Beginning: show
I ran from the door of the flower shop I worked in, hoping to get home on one of the zip lines, if they were still running at this time of night. I rounded a corner and saw that the last line was about to take off, and tried to quickly grab the two handles, but fumbled and only managed to grab one.
With my luck, the line took off just as I got on, and left only one of my hands as the line between a safe ride on the lines, or a fall to death or several broken bones. I couldn’t get an injury on this night, of all nights. This was the night I was leaving.
I was leaving to go see things none of my race, the Lokan, had ever seen before. I had it all planned. Since today was my birthday, I knew they would throw me a party. But I worked extra time at the flower shop, so I could leave late in the night, without anyone noticing. I arrived at my stop and dropped off the lines, and walked up to the door of our house.
Now, all houses in the Lokan village are built on top of trees. Yes, that’s right, Trees. All of the buildings are connected by bridges, but the newest, fastest way to get around is by the zip lines that some rich Lokan named Renal invented and hung about the place.
I walked up to the front door of our house, and I looked in the windows. They were dark, and I couldn’t see any movement. Perfect time to get my things and leave. I took the key out from under the mat and unlocked the door. When I walked in, I started to walk to my room when I heard movement, and whirled around, and then suddenly heard at least 10 people, all who sounded familiar, say
“Surprise! Happy twenty-first birthday Falen!”I groaned inwardly at the sound of all of my relatives here when I had my getaway all planned. “Hey, Falen, why were you so late?” asked my mother, who I saw had been standing behind the rocking chair before the one happy birthday greeting that had ended all my hopes of a clean getaway. “My boss made me work some extra hours at the flower shop; he didn’t know it was my birthday.”Well, it wasn’t true, but it was believable enough.
All of my relatives who I hadn’t seen in a while made a huge deal about how I had grown, some old friends asked about how I had been, typical birthday stuff. At last, it was time to open presents. The first few I opened were just some shirts, but the whole time I was waiting for my best friend Rowan’s present. He was the only one who knew I was leaving.
I was afraid what he would get me would be something that would give away my plans. When it came to him to give me a present, he said he had a friend who would bring it later, because he had forgotten it. Well, I guess he had been thinking the same thing as me. I hoped it would be some of the things I couldn’t get for my trip, like a decent pistol and knife. After almost everyone had left, Rowan motioned for me to come outside.
When I was out there, he gave me a package, and with that package he said the words “When you need me, say the thing that matters to you most in the situation. Open this package and follow the instructions inside as soon as you leave the city. Seeya.” Then he walked off, seemingly not caring about any of the questions I was about to ask him. When I went inside, everyone had left, and my mother was in bed. I made my way into my room, grabbed my bag of supplies, and climbed out the window. Into the clean night air I said “Well, this is where it starts.”

Chapter 2 - The gift: show
I rushed out of the city, eager to start my journey into the unknown. I had been running for about two miles, and then remembered Rowan’s gift.
I decided to open the box and see what it was. When I opened the box, I remembered that Rowan told me to read the instructions first. The instructions seemed to be scrawled quite messily and quickly on a piece of small paper. The instructions said...
Instructions:
1. Attach the two clasps around your wrist
2. Say what you need when you need it. There are almost no exceptions.
3. Use this gift only in emergencies, I do not wish for it to be abused
What I found inside the box was not what I was expecting at all. Now, remember I was expecting something to help me on my trip, not something that seemed like a joke. It looked like some sort of watch. But when I clasped it on my wrist, everything went black.
I felt light flicker through my eyelids. Then suddenly, my eyelids snapped open. A thousand things ran through my head, the biggest being “Where am I? What am I doing here?” And, overall, “Why am I tied up?”Those were all good questions, but then I remembered the watch, and the instructions that came with it.
I was alone in a wooden room, tied to a chair, against the wall. I looked at my wrist, where the watch was clasped, and said “I need a knife” I saw a burst of light, some sort of moving slithering bursting amazing – Ok, you probably get the point – light that turned into the shape of a knife and was resting in my hand.
I started to cut my bonds, and when I finally felt the ones around my wrists give way, I started on my legs, and all the other bonds. When I was finally dis-bondifi…Un-bonde….When I was finally free, I decided to quietly open the door, hoping it didn’t have a squeak. Well, I luckily got the non-squeaky prisoner door, and opened it to find a guard facing the other direction right outside.
I took out my knife, and slit his throat before he could do anything to defend himself. Well, I figured if he tried to capture me, he deserved it. Nobody messes with a Lokan and lives. Then I saw something that made my eyes widen. This place was loaded with explosives that were wired to one pressure plate…Which I had just stepped on.

Chapter 3 - Here we go again..: show
You might think that it sounds like an enormous “POW!”When you are in the middle of an explosion. Actually, you just hear an initial pop and you can’t hear.
I felt something warm come over me, an urge to just close my eyes…No. I couldn’t give up now. My journey had only begun! I had things to see! People to meet! I couldn’t give up! But then again, a nap would be nice...Only after a while did I notice the pain. The burning, horrible pain. I coughed once, twice. I said scratchily in my voice “Help…Rowan...Help...”
I didn’t expect an answer. But what I had learned in such a short time was that what you expected and what you got were two VERY different things. I heard his voice. He said “Hey man, what kind of trouble have you already managed to get yourself in that you needed to use your gift?”I laughed. Even though I was burning, I laughed insanely loud.”Well, it’s a nice gift you gave me and all, it’s already saved me once.”I was just so glad to hear his voice. To know I had a friend.
”I asked you why you needed to talk to me. I’m serious because this gift is supposed to be used in emergencies.”I was surprised to hear him so serious. He was never like that before. “Well, I just blew up a place I was trapped in. I honestly don’t need help; I just kind of panicked and wanted to talk to y-the sound of Rowan’s breathing stopped.
He had hung up! That ignorant little…I decided I’d kill him later. Metaphorically, of course. I got up, and decided that those sheer cliffs and towering spires in the distance looked good to travel too. I scavenged around, and found an old book hidden under some grass outside of the now-exploded building. I decided to stuff it in my pack for later. I took out my canteen, which wasn’t too damaged, and took a swig of water.” Looks like it’s time to get back on the road!”
I knew I was being followed as soon as I started to walk towards those mountains. When I decided to take action, I threw my knife at where the sound of movement was coming from. There against the tree, something was pinned against the trunk by a knife in its sleeve. It was a girl, about the same age as me, except she had pointed ears, and didn’t look like a Lokan at all.”Sorry, didn’t know who was following me, and acted on instinct” I went over and took the knife out of her sleeve.”Did it cut you? “, I said, hoping I didn’t sound too stupid.
”No, but it did take me by surprise, “she said, in a surprisingly quiet voice. “Well, where are you from?“,I asked, hoping to find a conversation, at least for a while.”Well, I’m from those mountains over there. I got lost, so can you help me find my way back home?”
I sighed. Right when I got out of the city, I knew this kind of thing would happen. Danger, helping people, and overall almost dying every single time I tried to do something good. “Well, yes, I can take you back.”I then quickly added under my breath “Here we go again.”
