Windy Sky
Sky fought her way through the crowded halls of Icilica Academy. She was on her way to her class on "Electrokinetics", meaning controlling electricity. She had to give a demonstration of a lightning spell n class. Sky rushed into class just as the bell rang.
"Oh, Sky. Right on time as always," her teacher, Mr. Ira, said, "I trust you've finished your assignment?" Sky nodded shyly. "Good, let's see it then."
Sky dropped hr supplies on an empty desk, then moved to the front of the room. She looked at her classmates. Wind and Yvera, two of her close friends, were among them. Wind smiled at Sky and gave her a thumbs up. Sky blushed, then looked at her other classmates. She could hear them whispering things like "She's gonna mess up" or "Sky does everything wrong".
Sky shook. Mr. Ira said, "Sky? Where is it?" Sky took some deep breaths and began to shoot arcs into the air. She jumped off a desk and into the center of the arcs, "Let's do this" she thought. The whispers of her classmates forced Sky out of focus and she was shocked unconcious by the lightning. The last thing she heard was Wind's worried, "Sky!" and the laughter of the class.
When Sky woke up, she found herself in Wind's arms. Wind immediately asked, "Are you okay, Sky?" Sky nodded weakly, then her face went red as a rose when Wind hugged her. Sky thought about what happened and started to cry.
"See what I told ya? She's cryin' now!" One of the students mocked. Wind stiid up and charged electricity into his hand, pointing at the student.
"Stop it, Altin! I'm warning you!" Wind shouted protectively.
"Oh, you're coming to protect your girlfriend? How sweet."
"So what if she were my girlfriend? I'd be lucky to have the love of someone like her!"
Sky hid her face in her arms so no one could see her blushing at Wind's comment, "Does he...?" she thought.
Wind's energy charge was visible now. He was serious. The rule among teachers was to stay out of conflicts; it's better to let them handle it themselves. "This is your last warning Altin!"
"You're in love with her, aren't ya? She's so stupid! She can't even --" Quick as lightning, Wind was behind Altin and struck him with a surge of electrical energy. Altin fell to the ground, unconscious and temporarily paralyzed.
Sky watched in shock as Altin fell. "I warned you, Altin. Don't mess with her," Wind said. He walked over to Sky, "I'll protect you, don't worry." Wind helped Sky up, and Sky started to cry again. With Mr. Ira's permission, Wind took Sky to the library.
"What's wrong, Sky?" Wind asked. Sky's tears started to disappear.
" I messed up in front of everyone! Everyone's laughing at me now!" Sky replied.
"Don't worry about them. It's not your fault you messed up."
"I can't do it!"
"I'll help you do it. Just trust me to help, please," Wind's voice comforted Sky.
Sky tried to speak, but all she could manage was a soft, "Thank you"
After school, Sky and Wind went to Celalla Park. There, they worked to train Sky's performance.
"Okay, I know your strength is in wind, not lightning. Maybe you could use the wind to protect yourself?" Wind suggested.
"Oh, that's a good idea!" Sky replied. Wind and Sky kept looking at each part of Sky's plan, looking for flaws in the design.
"You have too much power here." Wind said as he pointed to Sky's plan, "I think that's where you messed up. You were distracted and overloaded."
"Oh" Sky said sadly.
"No! That's not a bad thing! It works, you're just taking the risk of an energy overload." Sky sighed. "I think it was just the class' fault."
Wind tried out Sky's spell for himself. It was a beautiful feeling to use his lightning just for fun. Sky watched in awe as Wind copied every movement Sky was supposed to make. Eventually, Wind reached the point where Sky failed.
Wind spread his arms out, letting the electricity flow from his body. His energy spread the lightning into a heart shape, before disappearing in a beautiful pattern. Wind dropped to the ground.
"Wind, you did it!" Shy exclaimed.
"Yep. You will soon, too," Wind replied.
"It's supposed to be a start, not a heart, you know."
"I know," Wind said as he winked at Sky. Sky blushed.
"So... you do?" Sky asked.
"Yep, I do." Wind replied, knowing exactly what Sky meant, "I love you, Sky." Sky blushed again and thought, "What should I do now? I don't want to hurt him..."
Sky's thoughts were interrupted by Wind's voice, "Let's get you doing this now, okay?"
"Okay," Sky replied.
Wind and Sky continued practicing all that day. Finally, the time came for them to split up.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Sky. You'll do great, don't worry.
Sky blushed, and then said, "I'll see you tomorrow."
Sky walked down Spiralsurge Highway, the road that lead home. Once she returned, she immediately headed upstairs to her room. Her mom tried to stop her, but her only reply was "I need to think."
Sky wrote down her thoughts in her diary, then decided what she'd do. One week from now, she'd ask Wind to meet her at Celalla Park for a date. Sky thought back to the day she and Wind first met.
Sky had been in trouble. Some Earth elementalist decided to attack her. For some reason, a kid about her age, dressed in blue, stepped in and took them down. All he said was "Tell me if you ever need help."
Sky never forgot that, and apparently neither did Wind. Sky always thought about why Wind did that. Now it all made sense.
Sky's mind flashed to Wind's family. Wind's parents died to protect him from the Annihilation Emperor. Wind said that the last thing his mom said to him was "Train yourself so you can protect the one you love."
"That's why Wind came here" Scout thought aloud, "To get away from him and train until he can protect the person he loves."
Sky wrote all her thoughts. "Protect me," she corrected, "He loves me..." Sky laid down, "And I think I love him too..."
Sky travelled to her Electrokintetics class early the next day, so she could gather her thoughts. Wind sat down beside Altin. Sky could hear Wind say, "Don't you dare say a word." He wasn't letting anything stop her. "Thank you," Sky thought.
Sky did her performance just as wind did yesterday. When she landed, everyone clapped. Everyone but Altin, that is.
"Thank you Wind," She whispered. He nodded.
