TIME TO WRITE ANOTHER THIRTY MINUTE STORY.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The day was as it was usually everyday. The house was humid, the fans were blasting at the lowest settings, and the atmosphere inside the living room was silent, save for the whir of the fans and the slow turning of pages. Elizabeth sat where she usually sat, in the middle of the couch in the center of the room. Today was a good day to read her foreign novels.
She read as she usually did, half awake, one leg crossed over the other, with the book held with a loose grip of both hands. She read at a leisurely pace, her eyelids drooping, her face in a faint smile of contentment. The moment of peace, however, was quickly broken up by the slow approach of an obnoxious chewing sound, followed by the familiar force of a hard jawbone suddenly dropping on Elizabeth's right shoulder.
"Whacha readin there Eliza?" a curious voice blurted.
Elizabeth smiled and turned her head over to look at her friend in the face. Anna was always a bit straightforward in her friendship. She was like a little sister to Elizabeth, albeit they were of the same age. Anna chewed furiously, pushing down on Elizabeth's shoulder every so often, looking wide-eyed, directly at the page Elizabeth was on.
"Is that some sort of Germish book? All those words look funny." Anna asked.
Elizabeth giggled.
"No, Anna, It's a French book, and there is no such thing as Germish, it's German."
"So they aren't all covered in germs?"
"Something like that."
Elizabeth continued reading her novel, Anna now involving herself by staring intensely at the fanciness of the font of the words on the page. WIthin her vision, Elizabeth saw a white object slowly slide in front of her from the top of her view. As Elizabeth slowly turned her gaze upwards away from the book towards the object, she saw it rustle in unison with Anna's voice.
"Want a Spanish Burrito? Anna inquired.
Elizabeth's smile widened as she gently took hold of the food in front of her.
"Sure. Don't mind if I do." Elizabeth, assigning her left hand to hold her novel, held the Spanish burrito in her right hand and, unwrapping the paper, took her first bite.
It was delicious.
