Yes, the complaint from the ISP was that we were over on all of our statistics: RAM usage, processor time, and disk size. Unfortunately, that makes this a bigger problem than just reducing the amount of archived chat posts. It means that the Chat is going to require some drastic rule changes, or a drastic to complete recode. The simplest solution that we think might work is putting the chat in a separate or popup window, and not on the top of every page. The problem is that we are not sure what will bring down the specs of the service by the required amounts, and still leave it functional. I have been told that most of the new features are coded to not require practically any amount more resources than the original chat system required, but we might be talking about a few milliseconds difference multiplied by millions of interactions resulting in significant resource drain. And on top of that, with the number of people using the chat, even the stripped-back-down chat might be using too many resources, just from the sheer number of people using it.
Again, Runouw and Suyo are giving it their attention, and they are working on it as fast as they can, and unfortunately, it is a very thorny problem that will require much experimentation. Please be patient, and we will all be chatting away in no time.
