And luckily, there is a fair chance that I'll finally regain possession of Microsoft Word
THIS WEEKEND.
There are other means to manipulate word documents that are completely free. Openoffice is one alternative that comes to mind off the top of my head. I believe there is an entirely web-based option as well, although I cannot recall the name at this time.
Openoffice... was a problem for me, I don't know why, but it locked up some of my documents.
I now try to avoid it.
Okay...
1) I sometimes used WordArt and tables when I previously had Word. With Open, the WordArt disappeared probably because of incompatibility. The table setup also got messed up, which I think was because of different property options.
2) I find it to be more laggy than Word.
3) It screws up file names, and for some reason it limits the choices of file formats.
I thought it would be a good alternative, but it just messes with my files.
Since my documents originate from Word (format), I think I should keep using them with Word. However, my father is "likely" to repurchase Office 2010 this weekend.
