Why don't we just have a few really broad categories (best LDer, best artist, best member, best mod and such) and have 1st, 2nd and 3rd for each one?

Well MoD, this is my good time to take a stand. 
RV is not going to be stopped completely. We could change the whole system around, or stop it for a year, but it will not be stopped altogether. I find it quite an important event for keeping up with the last 6 month achievements on the forum, and I do actually find it fun, and I'm sure I'm not the only member who feels this way. I may be upset if I get no awards in any of the polls, but that is like any competition, even like LDCs. But is that supposed to make them not fun? No.
Besides I have the most fun reading the lists because you get a chance to see each individual members' view of the forums at that certain time. It's interesting.

I've never been around for a Runouw Votes. I've never figured out where they were hosted. Heck, until just now I never even knew when they were hosted. I've always wondered why people had medals from those things and why it even mattered. My lack of experience with this thing makes it hard for me to judge what to do with this system.
An apparent complaint is that too often the same people get awarded the medals. I fail to see how this is a problem, since the same thing happens with the freakin' LDCs. If it's a problem here then it's a problem with the LDCs. I don't get why this contest exists in the first place to be honest. Notable users generally leave their marks anyway. Whether it be during LDCs or elsewhere. I digress though.
Another complaint I've been reading is the categories. If you start making sub categories, you'll eventually be handing out medals left and right. Another thing about sub categories is that it can cause people to want more which, again, can lead to dozens of medals per contest. If you make too few categories, then people will complain that only a select few people can get a medal, and because of the consistency you guys seem to complain about possessing, only a select elite will get medals from the votes. Seriously, why are you guys complaining about how consistent you are? It's not like you're consistent jackasses or something... Right? Is it envy over not consistently being in the elite? I don't get it.
Again, my lack of experience, involvement, and care in this issue makes me... kind of neutral on this whole matter. But I figured I'd address the complaints, and theorize on the potential outcomes. It took awhile, but somehow a few of us figured out a half-decent judging method that could be applied to LL (and even SM63). I'm sure somebody will figure out something for this.
An opinion though, post-pone this whole thing until you figure out what you're going to do with this. It's not like the world is going to end because a bunch of users can't get an otherwise pointless image on their profiles and a temporary jolt to the pleasure center of their brains. Although before I say anything else, can I ask how many medals are awarded during Runouw Votes? I don't know that, so I can't really form an opinion about it.
I swear, one of these days I'm going to flood the story portal.

Honestly MP3, I don't want to be mean or anything, but coming from my eyes that posted sounded really selfish. Just because you don't want it cancelled means it won't be cancelled?
I don't care if I haven't gotten many medals from this. In fact I'm still proud of my amount of medals from RV New Years 2012. That doesn't mean I still don't like it.
Also if we aren't cancelling it at all, I suggest we remove the best external to site media. I know both Minecraft and TF2 will probably be the only two entries. It's the same goddamn things every year.

I have a compromise for this year, though. I say we skip RV normal for Summer 2013, and work all the ♥♥♥♥ out. Meanwhile, the GloMos and I can team up to throw a giant RV that encompasses each category, and several more, throughout Runouw.com's entire history. If the awards continue, then it was a celebration of the official site's four year anniversary. If they are cancelled, then at least we ended on a high note.
