Only thing I'd rush would be a nether portal (glowstone <3), maybe not even that depending on who my character is. That sounds good though.

Might be an issue though, some people (myself included) have stayed on for hours at a time... it gets boring. :p

Also bump but I think heads would make a great currency next map. Things like friendlies/creepers/skeletons/zombies would be "small change", with endermen/ghasts/blazes being larger denominations, and player heads being worth the most (perhaps certain player heads being worth more than others, depending on kill difficulty).

They're relatively rare as it stands right now, but still infinite, and the fact that player heads would be valuable due to their rarity would cause more conflict than last map. Only thing that could break it would be grinders, but there's two solutions for that. First, let them exist, and then skeleton/zombie/endermen(?) heads become near worthless, which isn't a problem as there equivalent value heads; or simply have shopkeepers trade for 3 different low value heads (skeleton, zombie, and creeper) as opposed to any combination of 3 low value heads (3 zombie, or 2 skeleton 1 zombie).

I definitely think this is the closest we're going to get to an actual currency, and it kinda kills two birds with one stone by adding incentive to shake the "peaceful village" our server has going on up a little.

I mean like, sitting at a mob spawner and attacking the mobs that come out is okay, but no fall traps or anything like that for mass farming XP, heads, bones, pearls, whatever.

Nah, let people make grinders. As long as they're careful (not walking around paying for things with a ridiculous amount of heads), nobody should suspect they have one, and it causes no problems. If they're not careful, fights would break out over the grinder and it'll probably end up disabled, if not destroyed. Conflict weeeeee :D But uh, the permission to utterly destroy any grinders you find should be added to the rules just so that people can't ♥♥♥♥♥ when their OP XP farms are ruined.

And really, all you'd need to do as shopkeeper would be stop accepting skeleton/zombie heads. Creeper would still be cool because no spawners for them.

Addressing your other stuff:

Sure, as long as there's no settling restrictions. I am vehemently against it if it means settling in a biome I do not care for, and I think many of the more aesthetic builders would be with me on this.

Yes please, it prevents "power players" from sticking together (hopefully) as well as encouraging interaction with other factions.

Taken care of, using heads as different denominations of currency (will require head plugins).

Pretty much covered with the above points, although tweaks could be made after seeing how well things pan out.

The problem with banning them is there's no way to moderate it, though. Banning them doesn't mean people will stop, it'll just mean they'll hide it better, and others will deny involvement. If there's a choice offered (build a grinder and risk someone destroying it, or just settle for a regular spawner that's protected by the no griefing player bases rule) people are less likely to feel intimidated by the rules and as a result the server becomes more inviting.

I dunno. I'm pretty sure people are going to exploit spawners whether it's against a rule or not, I'd just feel uncomfortable being "that admin" who wrecks someone's work because it's required in the rules when I could just as easily let whoever found the thing handle it in game (perhaps even roleplay it?) without the abuse of creative/op powers we tried to do without this map. With such a close userbase and the global/local/private chat hierarchy, it would be easy to see who always has X heads available, and therefore who probably has an X grinder somewhere. Dynmap can show places they spend a lot of time at (I feel like hiding on dynmap should be disallowed for this reason), put two and two together and that's all the information another player really needs to investigate.

Although we really haven't done either (banning them, or allowing destruction of them) so there's not much to base this off of. Tweaking will almost certainly be necessary.
