Well, now I can get into the server, thanks to Ven's handy guide. Thanks Ven and Oranj for the help :D
One thing I have a question about - it says I have 15 mods, not 14. I assume it doesn't matter, but is it something I should look into?

No, it shouldn't matter at all. It's probably an extra client mod that Ven disabled or maybe an extra one that someone added after he made the tutorial. But at least we know it works now for the worldpainter map. The pack shouldn't be updated except for the occasional client-side updates, and those are easy enough to walk through when they need to be.

By the way, I'm a little bit confused about how the guilds are working, so I assume I need to apply for one. If so, could I have a place in the Water guild?

There's good news and bad news:
good: map is working fine, and is pretty.
bad: worldediting needs to be done still
the caves are pretty crappy, but it's the best i could do. They don't last long at all, they're more like patches of caves

Well I think as long as a decent supply of minerals can be found, it's not that much of an issue.

Also, I added one last mod to the essentials modpack, reinstall it using OJ's link. It's the statue's mod which also requires Asie'slib.
Promise that that's the last mod..at least in the essential modpack.

It is too much trouble. I spent almost all day yesterday trying. I refuse to try anymore. I'm getting extremely impatient waiting as it is.
EDIT: You could probably attempt to travel pretty far out and see if normal vanilla caves spawn there.
