Welp, Ville Lumiere is probably somewhere around 15-20% complete in terms of bare-bone level design with tiles and whatnot. That's something to look forward to I guess.
Expect something cool here soon!

Rapid update post:
  • Starting FLOODED PAST tomorrow, it should be done between next week-end and the Wednesday after that. I have a few ideas, including for graphics, but also gameplay. This one'll be interesting, because we have yet to see a level revolving that much around water in this series.
  • VILLE LUMIÈRE is canceled until further notice, as Harmless seems to have given up progress on his level. I might re-take the idea of VILLE LUMIÈRE though, but without using Harm's level. Indeed, his level looks nothing like Paris (sorry, but it's the truth).
  • So, to replace VILLE LUMIÈRE, I am introducing MECHA STORM! It is the name I gave to BY's level that he also canceled (unfortunately). I'll continue it for him, as it looked really epic. (VILLE LUMIÈRE will most likely come back later).

Hey, if its any help at all, maybe I could continue Ville Lumière? I have some inspiration for a city level right now, and I've been to Paris so hopefully I can keep the atmosphere.

Sure, MP3, I will gladly accept your help. I'm going to send you the level tomorrow or something.

Change of plans!

I... barely started Flooded Past yet, but I've been thinking: I guess I need a break from SMC: I just feel like it is the only thing I can do anymore (since that recent failure in the 26th LDC of me not getting the motivation to finish a slow-paced level like Lethal). So I'm just going to prove myself wrong with a level I had on my mind since the 23rd LDC. Just so I'm not only remembered thanks to this series (even though it's epic and I love it).

This means in no way that this series is ending.

A long time has past without anything happening.

If I can ever find some time between LDC's (or if there will ever be a long gap between 2 LDC's, just like between the 26th and 27th), I can give a shot for one level or two. Or even more.

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

Has it really been 8 months?

Darn. It surely is time to bring this series back from the dead. I'm going to restart Flooded Past... today, as a matter of fact, so admitting I don't run out of motivation midway because I'm unhappy with what I've done (which is what happened last time), I can make it for next week-end. Woo?

Also I mentioned it earlier, but MECHA STORM (name not final, another highly possible name is RUST STORM) is now officially a thing. It used to be BY's level, but he gave up a little bit after starting, but the start looked so good I have to continue it. I don't know when I'll do that though, probably something like after Heliopolis. It takes place inside a fleet of ships which is stuck in the Arctic ice, and is slowly decaying (you could say it's an Ice/Factory-themed level). So if anyone is interested by this idea, or if anyone is willing to make another level for SMC, feel free to suggest.

Let's do this

I wanna pick GHOST DEPTHS! (is it the replacement for VILLE LUMIERE? And is Yuri's HANGING CITADEL still part of the series?)

Nah, Ghost Depths is part of the original 10 levels I planned so, unfortunately, I'll be making these levels (original 10 levels are all the current levels in the first post except Rust Storm + the final level I'm keeping secret)

Now, if you want to make an Underground or Haunted level, there is nothing stopping you ^_^ It'll just have to not be too similar to Ghost Depths.

And I guess it's good to know Hanging Citadel is still in. I didn't know so I removed it from the first page. I'll add it back.
