Edited the main post to include the score change that actually makes MoD and Sk's level higher than both Antichesm and Blablob's Tomb in the list (by 0.003 points!)

Oh, I rounded it to 2 decimal places because I figured that's what would have been done automatically for both Antichesm and Blablob's Tomb, so in reality I didn't know whose scores were actually higher than the other and there would only be a tiny difference anyway.

MessengerOfDreams wrote:Whoa, dude, that's actually really interesting ♥♥♥♥.

I almost wonder if you could do more of this research: highest fun score avg between all levels, highest graphics, highest "other", and make like top 10 lists or something.

Those have been announced for a long time, and now after the 29th LDC ended, I finally have them together. I'll post the Fun Criterion first, the others will follow in a day or two.

Sadly, many judgings are missing even in later LDC's, so this list is probably incomplete. I've included all levels I was able to get full judgings for, except for Paradox Bridge, AoF and SeasonEase Galaxy, whose missing judgings (19/20 from MegaR, both 18/20 by Runouw) where so good that I've decided to balance them out evenly, aka 9.5/4.75/4.75 and 9/4.5/4.5. So without further ado, let's go!

THE FUN CRITERION

In 10th place, with an overall score of 9/9/9/8 --> 8.75,
Volkove's Parallel Spires (16th LDC!)

One of the rare kind of sky fortresses / towers, even more, a level within two towers, and outside areas changing between the towers. Lots of innovation and experimentalness with blocks, meanderingly moving green platforms and a chase scene at the end, finishing at the grand top of the towers.

In 9th place, with an overall score of 9/8.75/8.6 --> 8.78,
Nwolf's Bowser's Forgotten Castle (25th LDC)!

Being simplistic by its structure, but growing continuously in difficulty and excitement, and climaxing in probably the most innovative Big Bully fight in history ever.

In 8th place, with an overall score of 9.5/9.25/8.5/8 --> 8.81,
Aeroforest::Initiation by Killswitch (24th LDC)!

Wow, that's what I call a juggernaut of a level. Starting smoothly in an icy forest, but becoming more and more thrilling when reaching the heights, and being very innovative with techniques of breaking blocks precisely.

In 7th place, with an overall score of 9/9/9/8.5 (supposedly?) --> 8.88,
Alignment of Fates by MessengerOfDreams/Venexis (10th LDC)!

That's not three levels like you all thought, that's one level split into three just because of background changings. Strongly effective in what it does, very accurate platforming-wise, even holding up with today's standards.

In 6th place, with an overall score of 9.25/9/9/8.5 --> 8.94,
Shyguy's Island by Buffooner (20th LDC)!

This is still probably the most appreciated pure platformer in LDC history, being somewhat perfectly accurate and thoughtful, creating a super nostalgic Yoshi's Island atmosphere and offering a lot of joy coin-wise.

In 5th place, with an overall score of 9.5/9.5/9/8 (supposedly?) --> 9.00,
Paradox Bridge by Volkove (9th LDC)!

This is a perfect example of how various worlds can be connected with the same bridge, which is why it's called "paradox". An awesome exploration factor, along with the Volkovian atmosphere standard and a decent amount of difficulty towards the end.

In 4th place, with an overall score of 9.1/9/9/9 --> 9.03,
Keel's Hatred and the Jungle Sprite by Ayrayen (24th LDC)!

Yeah, Dark, TP whatever may say what they want, but I qualify this to be the most emotional story at all, and gameplay-wise it's also more than appealing, especially with its blosses and chase scenes, and the general setting within a temple full of vines and decorations.

We're reaching the podest. The Top 3.

In 3rd place, with an overall score of 10/9/8.75/8.5 --> 9.06,
Dark by MessengerOfDreams (18th LDC)!

I don't know where I am, or who I am. All that I know is that this series has reached 3rd place here. Jokes aside, this is the measure of all things story-wise. It's not making a level, it's totally writing a novel within a level. Or a kind of script. Rushing through it without regarding the story is pointless, but once you're in it, it can make you cry (at least if you're SK). And the boss in level 4 goes down in Runouw history for unique dramatic art.

In 2nd place, with an overall score of 10/9.3/9/8 --> 9.08,
The Untold Story by SuperMIC (20th LDC)!

It may not be the most extensive or most emotional story, but it brilliantly succeeds at combining a story with nostalgia and classic Mario platforming as well as some nice gimmicks, such as a difficult underwater puzzling in level 2 or the structure of the fortress.

Total recap:

10. Parallel Spires - 8.75
9. Bowser's Forgotten Castle - 8.78
8. Aeroforest::Initiation - 8.81
7. Alignment of Fates - 8.88
6. Shyguy's Island - 8.94
5. Paradox Bridge - 9.00
4. Keel's Hatred and the Jungle Sprite - 9.03
3. Dark - 9.06
2. The Untold Story - 9.08

So, which level is supposed to be the most fun in LDC history so far?

In 1st place, with an overall score of 9.75/9/8.88/8.75 --> 9.09 (wow that's ♥♥♥♥ close!)

oh hello Mr Dramaspace

You Can't Escape Death by BrawlerEX (19th LDC)!

Breathtaking, stunning, whatever there's a word for it. This series should be far more famous, and it's a pity that it has some weak spots in the other two criterions, but fun-wise, this is probably everything Miyamoto would teach his new blood developers! Brawler has shown his full potential in this, and it's just too bad that he's retired.

So with this, I'm out at first. The bar for this is already pretty high (Leaves From the Vine missed by only 0.04!), but it's still assumable that more levels will go in here. Graphics Top 10 will come tomorrow, I promise. See ya!

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.
