Power Level (X) [Open Staff Application]

Postby nin10mode » April 22nd, 2016, 7:32 pm

In the past, potential staff has been approached on a case-by-case basis; we have asked them directly, via PM, how willing they are to take a position.

We find this tends to skew our options towards people we associate with, and limits our pool of selection immensely, so today we will be trying out open recruitment.

This means to say: Anyone may apply for a staff position, and you are free to list however many qualifications you believe you have. The more the merrier, actually.

There is no formal template for an application, but you should be taking into account:
  • Free time
  • Contributions to the site (Threads and changes of varying importance)
  • Prior experience as Staff, here or on another site

Other things you may want to talk about are future goals, both as a person and as potential staff.

You may decide to either post here or send a PM to the Moderators and Global Moderators, depending on how comfortable you are with sharing information.

Applying for everything from SR to mod ... just glomo is something too high in terms of me lacking any coding knowledge. (Nin and Ven are currently the only ones to qualify for that, aren't they?) My primary goal is lemod, still, but I could also imagine being a good mod in general, there is still some stuff lying idle, e.g. improving the General Rules, or updating MoD's timeline ... I've already brought a fresh wind during my 2 months as SR, and interrupting this process hasn't really proven to be beneficial thus far. I have done a lot of stuff here, from Wiki to forum statistics to LL tutorial to helping new designers in general.

I'm super active daily, as you know, and I'm eager to manage sticking around always, in good and bad times, even if real life is busy or troublesome. Doram already serves as a paradigm the way he accommodates a RL job, family and his activity here. Also, I keep being attached to the regular user base by heart, I have civil courage, I'm not afraid of defending newer members if they're not treated well, and I also wasn't afraid of defending Pos last time he reregged. I'm not the troublemaker Nr. 1 anymore, I count myself to the flagships here.

I've also started to read some stuff about psychology and interpersonal communication (Knigge, About getting along with people). Now I'm catching up the last stuff that I could have improved while being SR.

EDIT: And yeah, I'm also a lemod on the LL site as you probably know ... I haven't really pushed on that, I mostly wanted to solve the pile of unapproved levels and I've suggested Kary for that first ... after Karyete declined, BY gave me the shot.

EDIT 5/2/16: Now that it seems like no changes on the lemon squad are deemed necessary, I would accept SR but I officially apply for mod.

Thank you, FF.

Nan's sig! From the previous Secret Santa event!: show
Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

SR sounds interesting to me tbh so I may as well give it a shot, right?

To answer the three things you've listed, I can tell you I have plenty of free time. Most of it I spend doing nothing, so I may as well have something to do. In terms of contributions, I mean I've been here for like... six years now? I don't really think I've done that much in those six years, in fact I've mostly just been a troublemaker (not really helping my case but never hurts to be honest) but I'm fairly sure six years is enough time to get a good grasp on how things are done. I'm currently a staffer on the forums for Amiibo Dojo but nothing much really happens there. It's very peaceful.

In terms of what else I can bring to the table? Well I think the best thing to note is that I'm... really, really chill. I don't really get bothered by anything, which I would think is at least something that could be useful. I do what I can to help out if I'm asked to, and I'll not let anything get in the way of my beliefs. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing I suppose is up to you.

Well since Shroom has a lot of faith in me, I might as well apply for SR.

My free time at the moment is relatively small, but not so small that I can't dedicate a chunk of time to helping the site. I've only got a couple of months before I leave high school, which means a little more time will open up then. I do check in a few times every day, and other than a small break I took a few years ago I've pretty much never left, and I don't plan to any time soon.

I can't think of anything specific I will definitely bring to the table. I'm a lot more patient than I used to be (having a 1-year-old brother helps with that y'know) and I reckon I could help newcomers feel welcomed into the community. I was a Site Rep on MP3's forum, and hopefully I didn't suck at that.

Being on the staff team might help me communicate with people a little better, and become more involved in decision-making.

Well, I'd like to apply for anything that's available; from mod to SR.

I have a LOT of free time. I only have high school and LL development to deal with, and I am pretty sure I can manage my time well enough to do whatever I'll need to do here.

Here on the site, I'm pretty sure I've brought some relevant changes, and innovations. LDing wise, I discovered some really benefitial glitches/mechanics, in fact, I still see people using them from time to time.
When I was a Lemod, I gave room for some changes on LDCs, which helped breaking the streak of LDCs with few participants, being one of the most successful LDCs to date. I suggested changes to the score system, firstly changing the names of each category, from Fun, Graphics and Other to Gameplay, Scenery, and Miscellaneous (Misc.), and then, now along with Shroom, am trying to propose changes to the scoring system.
I have good knowledge and experience with both Last Legacy and SUper Mario 63, so I guess this could prove to be useful.

As for previous experience as staff, I was a Level moderator here before, only quit my job because real life problems were at its peak at the time. Don't know if it's relevant, but I'm currently helping with the LL development as well.

For anything new I'd want to bring to the table? Well, first of all, I'd like to help the most with stuff like WITBLO, Tier List, LDCs, and I want to prove myself useful in any kind of discussion/debate about the forum we might have. Also want to help new members as I can, whether it's with rules, or helping them fit better in the forums.

guess I made this too long

Applying for forum Moderator.

I'm rather active on the site, and I figured why not spend some of that time doing a little bit of supervision work? I have moderator experience in the past as well (most notably as sherrifs on forum "clubs" at the Casual Collective, which works kind of differently but kind of not differently), and feel I have improved in being as level headed as possible during heated situations. Well, that may or may not be up to you to decide anyway.

But hey, I'm adaptable, really flexible, easy to learn, and carry out orders 100%.
Expect something cool here soon!

He was a chat mod on my server and did a lot of other stuff, I also recommend.

I also like the idea of Nin/Ven being promoted

Applying for anything except for lemod. (My flash player hates me)

I don't see much I can bring, other than forum moderation and keeping the chat in order.

I not too active on the forums, I'm on every other day, although I am very active on the chat. Expect me to be on mobile every other day, I'm not always on PC.

As past experience, I was once (and still are, actually) an owner of my own forum and discord server. I haven't had much problems, other than PY (Pos was a member and PY wrecked the place)

(BTW if Forgotten decides to apply for a position, I reccomend since he's an admin on my forum)
