community Game polls

Postby ShadeRaider » May 8th, 2016, 9:45 am

This topic is for Polls relating to the game the community of Runouw is making.

before a poll is set up there will be a nomination stage where people suggest ideas, After the nomination stage I will set up the actual poll.

Then comes the voting stage, I will keep the poll up for 2-5 days based on how fast votes are coming in.

After he voting I will announce the winner, and hopefully that will help us decide

So Lets get started...
What Genre of game do we want to make?

We should probably start with something simple and something people are familiar with, so I'm suggesting that we do a point and click or RPG.

All the suggestions I can remember:

  • RPG
    • Top down?
    • Isometric? (sorry ven)
    • Some other style
  • Platformer
    • Possibly metroidvania-style exploration
    • Vertical?
  • Puzzle
  • Point-and-click
  • Some hybrid of the above
    • Super Paper Mario-style platformer RPG seemed pretty popular
    • Myst-style 3D point-and-click puzzle
    • Literally all of the above: [10:31 PM] Shad: You could run like you're in an RPG, you could jump and interact real-time like a platformer, you could point and click for arrows and ♥♥♥♥, and you would have puzzles here and there

Suggestion: Use Google Forms for the voting stage so you can make multiple polls and customize stuff better. It's pretty easy to figure out how to use it, but if you have any trouble, just yell for help.

It's 100% free and doesn't matter what browser you use. If you have a Google account (or an email you can use to log in to Google), you should be able to access it by going to https://www.google.com/drive/ and then creating a new Google Forms item once you're logged in.

I think an arcade-styled game would be fun and fairly low budget

Btw the poll is up and running. Please only submit one answer so things don't get confusing.

I do like RPGs, but I don't think RPG is exactly "simple" even with "easy" things like RPG Maker. You have to do lots of things like characterization, sidequests, and possibly branching plot paths or multiple endings. So I'll prefer platformers, though it's just your typical point A to B platformers. Boring and uninspiring I know, but I'm fine with Metroidvania style, as I've been interested in making a Metroidvania title.

I'm kinda interested in arcade-styled games or puzzle games or a hybrid of both, from what I see in obscure Japanese games, there are plenty of new ideas for those genres. But as I can only vote one choice, I'd vote platformers.

A point-and-click arcade like game would actually be really cool, I don't think it's been done before.
