(Credit to their original creators at Pokéfarm for...Creating these guides. I just edited them so they could fit here.)
Guides:
  • Spamming: What is it and how to avoid it (Created by Wolfin)
  • How to avoid becoming known as a n00b? (Created by Neffi)
  • How to Report a User Efficiently (Made by Noir)
Of course, you don't really know any of the creators. Hopefully they won't mind I use it.

Spamming: What it is and how to avoid it.: show
Hey. Wolfin's awesome for creating this topic. Now, this is a guide to what SPAM is so that you can avoid it. I know that some people just don't have a clue to what it is, so they do it without trying to.

The Definition of SPAM according to the site: Stupid, Pointless, Annoying Messages.

The Definition of SPAM on most sites: SHORT, Pointless, Annoying Messages.

Type 1: Short replies/Post/Private messages

This type of spam can be many different things. The main thing to avoid with the short post is for it to not have a meaning.
  • Hi, I'm new here (Unless it's in the Welcome forum. But it would be helpful if you type more than that)
  • Rate my level please
  • Be my friend
  • And there are others. If this is all that's in your post, or something similar to these, the post will (Possibly) get deleted, and you'll be warned and/or banned.
Type 2: Off Topic replies/post

This one is a little easier to understand, and is easy to avoid. If the title is set up to be about a certain videogame, don't post about how your day was.
  • Does this really need examples?

Type 3: Rule 3A) Smiley Abuse

This means using too many smilies. Using one or two sparingly through your post is fine, but DO NOT make the post be 1/2 or more smilies. Preferable not even 1/4 or even 1/5, since smilies are distracting.
  • :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) Hi, I'm Usuario. Nice to meet you. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
  • What happened? That couldn't have been the truth, could it? :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:
  • :) Well, there are different things that could have been done. :o Picking a fight with her over that was not wise :| :| Well, I guess nothing we can do about it now. :? :(
  • And any post with ONLY smilies in it is spam. On the chat, if it's only 1 smiley on your chatpost, it's fine, but don't overuse it like: <example> :awe: *Next chat post* :awe: *Next chat post* :awe: *Next chat post* :awe: *Next chat post* :awe: *Next chat post* :awe: *Next chat post* :awe:

Type 4: Begging
Asking someone for something once or twice is okay just as long as you aren't bugging and pestering them about it.

  • First person: Could you please comment and rate my level?
    Second person: No
    First person: Come on, please?
First person: You stopped replying to me, I really want your review.
First person: I'll give you anything you want for it. Please let me have it!
First person: How about I give you 5/5 on all your levels?
Second person: No. I'm not in the mood right now.
    First person: Please?
First person: I would love you if you did...
First person: If you don't, then I'll hate you. Just give me your review!

  • Begging can be on anything. If you go this long about it, then you've probably been reported, and STAFF members will have to get involved. Some people will give you some chance on this area, but just don't take the chance.

Type 5: Images
This is an easy one to avoid. Don't post an image or a group of images in every post you make. If you want to show off the picture, put it in your signature. If it's too big, put it in Spoiler tags.

  • Hard to demonstrate on here...

Type 6: Multi-posting or Flooding PMs
There is a rule against Multi-posting in most areas. If you post something, but need to say something else while nobody else has posted, then EDIT your previous post.

Multi-posting: The act of posting more than one time in a row. This includes Double-posting, triple-posting, and any other number of post in a row. This is a type of spam, though using it to bring your forum up is okay ONLY if a week has passed since the last post. Exceptions are:
  • If you're making a story, and no one posted since a chapter or something, you can notify if a new chapter is out instead of waiting a week.
  • On your artwork topic, if you made something and no one has posted after your latest creation, you can multipost.
  • In your levels topic, if no one has posted since your last level, you can multipost

Flooding: The act of sending a ton of PMs to a user all about the same thing and not waiting for a reply. Can also be used to refer to a user PMing a bunch of different users about the same thing without waiting for anyone to reply to them. This is likely to get you banned.

Ways to avoid this:
  • Edit your post if needed. Clicking the Edit button will allow you to do this.
  • Wait for someone to reply. It might take a little bit of time, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
  • If you send someone 3/4 pms in a row about something, leave it there and wait for their reply. I say 3, because it's easy to forget something, and you can't edit a sent PM.
  • Wait 2 weeks. That's the time in the rules that you must wait before posting a bump.

Type 7: Already Answered
It seems useless, but it's worth putting.
No, this doesn't mean it was already answered here. No, this does not mean it was answered 10-20+ pages ago on a thread, so you have to read everything.

This applies if:
  • The question was answered on that page of the thread
  • The question was answered on the previous page of that thread
  • The question was asked in the first post of a thread on the first page of that thread.

Examples:
  • Don't think this is needed. If you disagree and have some examples, then feel free to PM me.

End Notes:

How to avoid becoming known as a n00b?: show
Many Runouw users are being called 'n00bs' for various reasons. This nickname is not only unkind - it often means consequences.

How to avoid becoming known as a n00b?

how do i submit a level???????????????? :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

hi i rly want cment on my level culd u plz cment on it

AAAAAHHHH I CMMENTED ON UR LEVEL ND GVE IT 5/5 AND U DDNT DO D SAM WIT ME I HATE U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. These comments are entirely made-up, except the first one, which we sadly get a lot. They could happen, however. Anyways, back to the point.

Before you ask about something, try to find the answer by yourself. Believe me, it's not that difficult. Okay, the Help Page may be out-of-date, but it's still very useful. For the things you can't find there, you have the forums, but it's not only for writing new threads, you can also read it! For example, if you don't know how to submit a level, check some thread titles, and I'm sure that after searching around you will find something named "How do i submit a level" or something to help you, and the problem is no more. The same goes to everything.
You don't have to scroll through ALL pages, but check, let's say, first 5, and if you don't find the answer to your question, feel free to start new thread. It isn't maybe as quick as writing new thread immediately, but it may spare you a lot of schame and, who knows, even save you from getting banned.

You said something and somebody called you a n00b?
Im not a n00b YOU ALL ARE NOOBS AND I HATE UUUUUU!!! :x :x :x :x :x

If you write them something like that, you will only prove that you are a n00b. Being called a n00b is annoying, I agree, but instead of getting furious, think about your last post(s).Maybe what you wrote wasn't very wise? Try figuring out what was wrong, or ask somebody (Staff, experienced and kind users, me - yes I'm nice if I'm not in a bad mood).
Different situation happens if you are not from English-speaking country and your grammar is bad. Nobody has the right to call you a n00b only because of that. Runouw is for people from all over the world, right? But it doesn't mean you should get furious immediately. Try responding like that:
If you can't understand me, I'm sorry, I'm from (insert you country here) and my English is bad. But it isn't a reason to call me a n00b, it isn't nice. If you don't understand me, tell me about it in another way.

Also, don't use Translator programs - nobody will understand you. A dictionary is a better idea.

Something more, mostly for young (but not only) users.

(after a long time of an user begging another for something)
Person 1 wrote:That's enough for me, I'm gonna report you do the Staff.

Person 2 wrote:please dont im 9 years old

After sending something like that, you are more than sure to be reported. Sorry to say, but you are NOT privileged because you are young/sad/soooo poor, you only wanted to have one Rate/5-5s/Good levels made by other people/whatever. It's connected to begging - something you can read about in Wolfin's Guide about Spamming - just above this spoiler.

I guess we're done now. Thanks to Neffi for making this useful guide.

How to Report a User Efficiently: show
This is a guide that will hopefully help describe the most efficient way to submit a report. Makes the moderator's job easier to ban people...

What is a report?:
  • It's a snazzy way to PM someone.;; False. Actually users will not know they have been reported unless a mod tells them. I still find it amusing how many reports say "Hi" and spam like junk.
  • A report is notification to the staff that another user is breaking rules or doing something they shouldn't be doing. A reporting system is vital to almost every site, because it helps the staff enforce rules and keep peace.

Is it better to send in a report, or contact a mod?
For some weird reason, there's no "Report user" button, but a "Report post" button. If you want staff to deal with a specific user, you have to PM staff. It would be good if you name it "User Report: *Name here*".

What should I include in a report?:
As much information you can get!
  • Screenshots are the most convenient pieces of evidence one could provide! If you are dealing with someone and things start looking shady. Start taking screenshots, this will help us understand the situation. Better safe than sorry.
-Making a screenshot (Windows): Prnt Scrn key on your keyboard, then paste into any image editing progam (Like Paint)
-Making a screenshot (Mac): Hold down Apple key ⌘ + Shift + 3 simultaneously to get a picture of your entire desktop. You will then find a picture on your desktop entitled "Picture N" ,n being the first unused number.
  • Links directly to problem. If it's a forum you are talking about, include the link! It wastes time if a mod has to dig through all the forums to find it and, then tracking down the exact page the offense is on. Or they have to PM the reporter asking specifically. (Which is still bothersome when the reporter isn't currently online...)
  • For organization purposes give URLs their own line. Example:
    -Text-
    -Link-
    -Another Link-
    -Last Link-
    -Follow up text-
  • Quotes/Conversations. If you are reporting about harassment or spam, including the quotes will help tremendously. When they get reports about "So and so said this..." we always have to mail the person for proof. When the person doesn't have the proof needed, they can't do anything and just close the report. This isn't helpful to anyone and simply wastes time. If you are reporting a user that harassed you via PM, PLEASE don't delete the PMs before the report is dealt with. You destroying evidence isn't going to help you.
Include the quotes in the report rather than submitting hearsay if/when possible.
  • Organize the quotes. Allow a line or two of spacing between each end tag.
  • Any other information you think moderators should know. If you know this user has been in trouble before, tell them. If you have a hunch on something, but don't exactly have proof on it specifically, let them know. Note: This is additional information, do not submit a whole report on hunch and no proof.

Example of a BAD report
dis person is pming me
can u ban him?

  • There is no information that is helpful here. And if you type like that, they probably won't take the report seriously. They will try to ask for proof, but doubt they will get any. After wasting time, it simply gets closed.

Example of an OKAY report
Hello. I would like to report GalaxyMario for spam and constant harassment.
I get messages daily to go post in our Forum Game. And he follows me around threads. Please tell him to stop.

  • There is more information about the offense here, but they still have to PM to get more information and proof. And they would probably PM the reportee as well just to get the full story. Warnings/punishments will be dolled out, but it will take longer than it should.

Example of a GOOD report
Hello. I would like to report about an user constantly harassing me, called GalaxyMario. I have already ignored him from my messages, but now he's following on the threads. You can clearly see it on the next posts:
*Insert link 1 here*
*Insert link 2 here*

And here are screenshots on how much he has spammed my inbox:
*Insert link to screenshot here*

I know he also harasses the User Rep Ridder constantly if you want further proof behind my claims.

If you would let him know to leave me alone, I would appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

  • This report includes ample information and the staff should be able to handle the problem as quickly as possible. The more information included, the better.

NOTE: None of these reports are actually true. GalaxyMario is a good friend of mine and he doesn't harass anybody.

What should I leave out of the report?:
  • Useless Information. Reports should be detailed, but concise. We do not need to know about your personal life in reports, just facts or relevant bits of information.

I guess this is enough. Thanks for Noir for making this awesome guide!

If you find any mistakes, tell me.

Comment, and if you want, make your own! It could help the site become better!
