Guest Judges

Postby Doram » August 23rd, 2015, 8:39 pm

Ok. Here's the deal. I don't think it's really fair for me to finish these contests with only me judging, so, consider this me putting out the call for guest judges. If you are NOT signed up for the RO as a contestant, I'm asking if you want to sign up to be a judge. I need judgings for the Caption Contest, and the SM63 LDC, and volunteers for the upcoming Mini-L3DC. I'm thinking we could possibly push the good will of our dear fellow Runouwians to the middle of Sept for the results, but past that, and we may have riots on our hands. So, help a brother out. Sign up to judge.

For the LL contest, I already have an insiders tip: Niicola. In case if you need more or Niicola doesn't want to: Blackyoshi is very busy right now with both working on LL and RL stuff. Maybe we could persuade him to judge LL at most. Same would go for Runouw.

Yurimaster has gone inactive for a few months already, I don't know if he can do any judgings though he would be fit for all three. lordpat would be a possible alternative for SM63 but when I've asked him in chat, he said that he's pretty unmotivated with everything SM63-related.

Someone like Chau, brando or Kimonio could maybe jump in for the Gaming Caption Contest.

MessengerOfDreams has already proposed to judge the SM63 contest for better results. He is in my team of course, but come on, does anybody doubt about him being unbiased as always and wanting to let the best level win? MICrophone and Nwolf would also be good judges, but again, they also show up very rarely.

Thank you, FF.

Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

That's pretty sad. I'd like to be the judge but I can't cause' it will be cheating.

I'm pretty sure BY has explicitly stated several times that he does not want to judge. There's not any reason to force someone into it if they don't want to or don't have time to.

Being a Judge is interesting but... I don't know. Since this is an open-competition, I will maybe submit a level. Or not. It depends :)

If you don't think you have the experience and knowledge with the game and with what makes a good and a bad level, then who else has it.

Just check out the judgings of the 3rd LL contest and maybe some judgings of previous SM63 contests to see if it is for you. We would be incredibly thankful if you fill the gap.

I am honored to be considered as such.

Can we be a judge and still post a level?
(I don't think I would be able to rate my own level objectively though)

I'm definitely up for MoD being a judge. He's certainly trustworthy.

Yup, we could have MoY judge everything but his own level and have Doram/SK judge MoY's level
Expect something cool here soon!

I should be a judge. I still refuse to break my streak of not playing any of Runouw's games, but I can just give ratings based on my biases towards people I know.
