I hate that kind of feeling. I had a hard time coping with it. I'd tell myself that it'd be better to die than to do some ♥♥♥♥ that everyone else can do better, no one likes me and if they do talk to me, there's definitely someone else better to hang out with. Fear might as well be my 2nd name. I kinda am going through these kinds of things currently.

But then I kept going. I didn't stop on the darkness that's happening now, because I KNOW that there is light on the road ahead, no matter how dim it might be, or how dark the road is. My point is to not give up, there is always the future.

I try to reject thoughts of doubt. I'd say them in my head (or really quietly) and follow up with a rebuttal. Music helps me escape thoughts, especially OSTs of games (since no lyrics means no being bogged down by words (though Son of Man is an exception)). Talking to people regularly at university also helps my sanity. Even if it is just small talk with a joke or two. It helps to have someone who can motivate you, or even just listen to you, and I'm glad I have someone like that. But even if your situation is difficult there are people willing to listen here (hence the topic).

Hopefully that provided some comfort. We just gotta keep going man, no matter how dark the road is :amp smile:

Veso, my friend. Depression is usually directly related to your own estimation of your ability to get things done. Pick something you want to work on, and chop it up into some smaller tasks, and start getting some stuff done. It'll help move you forward in your general path in life, put some mentally satisfying successes under your belt, and shut up at least a few of the voices. Need help figuring out how to do that, just ask, here or in PM - all I need is a few detailed descriptions of what you want to do. Also, see my advice to FF above. Might help you too.

That doesn't always work. I can name millions of accomplishments I have, but I still feel depressed for some reason.

npromin, you have officially hit the other half of depression, then. The disconnection of a lack of recognition. Being understood and appreciated by others is not just a sweet topping on the desert of life, but when it is consistently denied a person, it is revealed to be a basic need of us humans. We are social creatures, and we need to be connected to others to feel whole. That can be family, that can be friends, or that can be complete strangers, but being accepted and appreciated by SOMEBODY is surprisingly necessary for a healthy mental state. Our lovely forums are an extreme example of it (mostly because it is a VERY supportive community), but finding a community that is interested in the same things as you is an easy way to find some of that connection to other people, when you cannot get it in other parts of your life. (I will admit here, that on my WORST days, the fact that I am welcomed and respected here often helps pull me out of whatever funk I am in. I love you guys.)

Also, Konradix, I heartily applaud your bravery. Being able to hold on to that hope, especially in the face of being surrounded by darkness, is amazing strength. Good job keeping your eye on the light at the end of the tunnel. May all of your tunnels be short.

To answer the question, I want to get better as a competitive Super Smash Bros player, but I see people say For Glory is bad and Anther's Ladder is better. I don't like getting on Anther's because it takes so long to set up a match.
Either way, I would get experience of playing the game, but is it the proper way of training?
Either way, losing will always going to destroy my self esteem. No one wants to see that. I don't like seeing it. I pity it.

Thanks Doram. I feel this community supports me greatly, which is one of the reasons I have decided to stay with it this time. Anyway, sometimes I wonder why humans are social creatures. If we are a species on this planet that, are we supposed to interact socially? Is that supposed to be the key to preventing their extinction and to have them continue to be the dominant species on their planet? Is it just an adaptation which natural selection will prove worthless or even harmful? Since humans have been around for a short time on this planet,it is too soon to tell. But with the way things are going with current events, politics, technology, pollution, the economy, and diplomacy, the human race is bound to go extinct sometime in the near future. Is this completely caused by social interaction, and does humanity have a need for being cynical to survive? By analyzing our symbiotic relationships on this planet,I can say both yes and no. Over just a few thousand years, the advancement of the human race has caused many species to go extinct. However, people domesticate other species on a daily basis. My big question,is why do we require social connections? Scientific research proves that people with more friends live longer and people who are happy live longer, however,I cannot simply conclude that humans require social connections to survive on this planet, but it appears that sometimes we could prevail through selfishness much easier. The one thing I don't understand is that many other species don't seem to require it. Think of the lone wolf within the species of wolves, because they can survive longer then within packs. Does being alone, actually cause a wolf's telomeres to shorten, physically causing them to die sooner? Are the benefits of being alone greater then the benefits of maintaing social interactions? Maybe having and making friends is what sets us apart from other species by allowing us to multiply, modernize, and become the dominate species on the planet, but maybe it will eventually be our downfall. There are a lot of implications to this, but not all of them are good. Why do I think we get depressed? Sometime thousands of years ago,a genetic mutation caused humans to socialize, causing good emotions and hormones to activate,in turn increasing their life span. Now,humans are so reliant on it,that without friends, depression is triggered.

Wow. My first essay on the forum. D:

Speaking of depression, I did the dumb decision of not taking my antidepressants for at least a week.

Just last night I was laying in bed thinking to myself "what's the ♥♥♥♥ point, I'm a coward of society. No one would miss me."

And then it hit me...this was the ♥♥♥♥ my medicine was supposed to help. I just never noticed it was this bad.

I literally caught myself from slipping off the cliff.

Thank you, FF.

Nan's sig! From the previous Secret Santa event!: show
Rating standards: show
1 star: (0 - 5.75 in LDC) These levels need a lot of work. They're totally un-elaborated, and/or inherently flawed due to things like cutoff or enemy spam, or they're untested and there are too many bugs gameplay-wise, in short: Many many things went wrong in such a level.

2 stars: (6 - 9.75) These levels are not terrible, but poor. They're too short, lack scenery or they have errors and/or bugs but it's still barely enjoyable. Again, spend more effort and try to do better. (if it's your first level that I rate two stars, it's not bad. There's a long way you can still go)

3 stars: (10 - 12.75) These levels are about mediocre. They may be still a little bit short, the gameplay is fine but not very original and graphics are also solid, but not breath-taking. Try to keep improving!

4 stars: (13 - 15) These levels are nice, but not the best. Effort has been put into them, there can some professionality be seen in gameplay and graphics, they're a nice experience to play, but there are still things you can do to make it even better. Try to go the extra mile!

5 stars: (15.25 - 20) These are really great levels, those which, as said, I would give more than 15 in an LDC. These suffice many high requirements, and it already goes into subtleties if you want to make them better. These levels are successful all around. Bravo.

These are just general principles I try to follow when rating. Sometimes I don't leave a further comment when rating, most times I do, if you have questions about it, feel free to ask further.

You sometimes don't always realise how bad it is until you have the pain temporarily removed. Then it hits home.
Not the best analogy but I have glasses now, only I never realised just how blurred my vision was until I went to the eye test and they put the lenses in, then removed them. Similar kind of thing.

It depends, I've had people on Anther's ladder who had pretty bad manners (refraining from using heavier words to describe them). The skill level on Anther's ladder doesn't vary too much from For Glory (at least when I play melee netplay I notice some players are actually newer to the game than some For Glory opponents in smash 4).
Expect something cool here soon!
