Well, the avatar contest is so easy that it's already started, but we're also running short on time because I couldn't finish the theme and open the forum until now. Story Contests and Art Contests need a bit more commitment from entrants, and an LDC needs even more setup, like getting judges together and the whole process thing.

Half of me says that we could shortcut a lot of that by just having the winner decided by poll,but the other half of me feels like that is disrespecting the time and effort that it takes to make a quality piece... What do you think?

We can extend halloween for a week or two into november if we must due to how late we started this year

I'm fine with a poll. It's possible to make great art in less than a month, and that's what these types of holiday contests have typically been geared toward. If you want to make something really complex and lengthy, there's nothing stopping you from also posting/continuing it in the story or level designer subforums. These events aren't intended to be a rigid competition to the same standard a full, month-and-a-half LDC is, so let's just have fun and relax a little.

Most of the past halloween story contests have been decided by poll iirc. Can't say for certain about art contests, but I don't see why not.
