Destruction of Earth is inevitable?

Postby Ridder » October 6th, 2009, 9:45 pm

I have been told I am an emo, and a downer, and all of that stuff.

But take me seriously when I say: We are seriously going to drive Earth into a wasteland.

You can't deny that fact, we take resources from it,we take it for granted, we throw away our waste somewhere on it,we bury our corpses in it, and we LIVE on it.
We can't just magically restore Earth like they do in those video games, we can only slow down the inevitable, which is: Us, causing the earth to be wasted.
If we are lucky, we might be able to live on some other planet(not as good as eart- well, actually, by that time, it WILL be better than earth)--
and sap it to death too.

THE CREED: Nothing is True. Everything is Permitted.
"...That's rather cynical."

"It would be if it were doctrine, but it is merely an observation of the nature of reality.
To say that Nothing is True is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shephards of our own civilization.
To say that Everything is Permitted is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with the consequences, whether glorious...or tragic."
-Ezio Auditore da Firenze explaining the Creed, 1514, Masayaf.

Well of course it's going to be destroyed one day! It hasn't got an infinite amount of resources. Humans, nor any other animal could live on it forever.

However, this most likely won't be the case for thousands of years to come. We'll always find new ways to delay it, like you said, and craft new technology to help us cope with however the environment turns out as a result of what we're doing.

Don't look on it in such a sad light. It's not like the world's going to blow up in your lifetime, nor be reduced to a huge, dead, burning rock. Though not as healthy as it once was, the Earth is coping just fine for now. ;)

I agree with Niklaw. I wouldn't even worry about it since it's not gonna happen for a very long time. And with technology increasing so fast, we may just invent something that could help the earth. It's not definate, but...it's just...GOD RIDDER, YOU EMO!

I'm just kidding, Ridder. No worries.

Of course Earth is going to be destroyed eventually! At some point, the sun will become a supernova and implode. Something tells me that Earth isn't going to survive that!

Looking at this from a human viewpoint, though, the destruction of humans may possibly happen long before that.
The world population is currently growing at an alarming rate. Will our population growth rate cap off naturally when there is no more space? Or, will the government issue some verdict limiting the number of children a family can have? Who knows...
Then, of course, there are the natural resources. Actually, if we keep using fossil fuels at our current rate, they will run out at around 2050 or so, which IS in our lifetime. Sure, we can look for alternative methods for energy, but there's no guarantee that we can find a good one, and 40 years isn't exactly a long time. If anything, this will hinder our technological advances, into which you all seem to put so much of your faith...

..but, it only takes one genius out of our ever-increasing 6 billion to come up with something. So, just hope you're not that guy, and we can sit back and relax...I guess? (I am so gonna die... : D)

In some countries actually, they're setting a child limit already. Besides, I really don't think the world's going to get flooded with humans all too soon. :?

And as for natural resources running out, I wouldn't be all too worried about that. It's not like we're just going to keep mining these resources at the exact same rate for the rest of our years, without noticing drastic changes. Humans have common sense, and when the government realize we're running too low for comfort, they'll make changes. Sure, at this rate the resources may possibly, with some small chance run out at 2050, but with the alterations we'll no-doubt make, It could very well not be until much, much later.

Hell, they should just stop mining coal and oil all together. I'd be happy if we just went back to using horses as transport. They're far better than cars in a number of ways, if you ask me. :) As for electricity, I don't see why we don't just use solar power generators. In years to come, their mobility would increase substantially, and they'll become much more beneficial. We could also use them for cars, but I like the whole horse idea better. :P

Don't go saying "but electricity will only be available during the day!", because there are solar power generators that can store energy during the day for later use.

If numbers for those solar power generators are a problem, with the rising stress caused by the deterioration of resources such as coal, I'm sure governments will focus more money and resources on them.

Ah, four four four. You are one mysterious person. I mean, this right here what you said is kinda negative, but yet you have that stupid smirk smiley face as your picture, and it just keeps any of us from getting negative. Sorry, just had to say it.

Anyway, back to topic. What are we supposed to do about increaing population? People are still gonna have babies, and there gonna have lots of them, and we can't just kill them or anything. Eventually there will be too many people living on the earth which will cause many things. people will be out of jobs, we'll need more homes, land, food, everything. But we don't have an infinite # of it; we'll eventually run out.

Boy. That kinda sucks.
